  4. http://www.dailydot.com/gaming/penny-arcade-job-posting-twitter-trend/ I assume it's this because I had the same reaction when I saw it initially. EDIT: Direct link to the actual job description: https://www.linkedin.com/jobs2/view/9887522?trk=job_nov&_mSplash=1
  5. Is anything likely to actually come of this? I'm under the vague impression that Europe in general cares more about consumers than America does, but that could just be me being pessimistic about America because I live there.

That's the number one reason I don't do any streaming. I'd love to stream a lot of things I play! But it's like... what's the point. I'm awkward, no one's listening, and even if they were, I'm awkward. But it could be fun! But I'm awkward. But it could be fun! But. But! But. Butt.

Well... these things are made in Japan for Japanese people, so one would presume that Japanese people love the fanservice. And... I've made the mistake of clicking on a Crunchyroll discussion thread or two and let's just say most people are not us. On KLK: I think almost all of us almost stopped watching it at first, but stuck with it. To be perfectly honest, I appreciate it all the more because of the contrast between the fanservice and the rest of the show. I don't think it would have worked nearly as well as it does if it had no fanservice. But only because of the context of the current state of anime. I mean... you know what I mean. It's all been discussed to death in this thread! KLK is so great. :3
  8. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

Thanks to the Idle Thumbs IRC hangout, I was reminded that, as much as everyone hates Blues Brothers 2000, the soundtrack is fantastic.

Really, you think Excel Sage wouldn't get made today? I think it would. I mean, I'll admit it's been a long time since I watched it, but I absolutely believe it could be made today and totally be successful. Maybe I'll finally give it a second watch through and see if I still think that way. I don't know about the other two that you listed except that I also very much disliked Lain. Ain't I just the contrarian today! Anyway, my point was more that people shouldn't be so dismissive of the way things are right now. There's more than enough good stuff. Maybe not the best, but blrghrghhh. (Granted, until I signed up for Crunchyroll, I've never been the type to follow anime season by season, so it's entirely possible that's why I have an easier time recognizing the good stuff?) Speaking of the exact opposite of what I just argued for in my previous post, my friend linked me the first episode of this: My Mental Choices are Completely Interfering with my School Romantic Comedy. I can't remember if I've seen it mentioned here before. I'd seen it on Crunchyroll and avoided it for probably obvious reasons (the title doesn't inspire much hope). Well, the first scene gave me a lot of hope. The OP brought me back down to reality, but I perservered. The rest of the episode was fantastic! And then the last scene featured an incredibly stupid, but also incredibly sexy and incredibly scantily clad girl falling from the sky to land on the main character. And then the second episode was almost nothing but the interactions between the main character and the sky girl and yep she keeps being really stupid and wearing almost nothing, and also he compares her to a dog because she's so dumb and single-minded, and every time she goes to give him something she reaches between her large breasts and pulls it (a box of chocolates, a banana, whatever) out of her top and hands it to him, and isn't it just so adorable how stupid she is also let's watch her sexily eat a banana. Well, let's just say it was a good run, that first episode. It had to end sometime. (The near-end of the second episode was sort of good again, until the very very end when it turned into typical high school romance bullshit as I'd originally feared.) Goddamnit though I laughed so hard at the first episode. I'm so disappointed. ): EDIT: I started episode three and besides a classic slipped-on-a-banana gag (WHICH I ALWAYS UNAPOLOGETICALLY LOVE!) nothing good happened for the first third of the episode and now I'm giving up. The entire premise of the show (which I just now realized I didn't explain, so I'll do that now) is that the main character is cursed with occasionally having to choose between two options. Some voice in his head demands that he chooses and if he doesn't he experiences a lot of pain. Almost every choice he's forced to make results in something hilarious happen. I almost wish the show had been entirely a gag show, like Azumangah Daioh or Nichijou or maybe even something like Cromartie High School. This is just blargh. And my almost wish I mean absolutely wish because even if it got sorta tiresome in that format, at least it wouldn't be burdened with the bad shit bringing it down. ... In happier news, Hozuki no Reitetsu continues to be really fun and funny! Best comedic depiction of hell I've seen in a while!

I can't speak to Paranoia Agent because I've found it to be ridiculously boring whenever I've actually tried to watch it, but I really hate this idea that today's anime is somehow worse than yesterday's. There's a ton of really fantastic stuff out there, provided you're willing to look past the surface. The surface of everything and everything is almost always guaranteed to be boring popular garbage. Yeah it's definitely one of those Great Clichés! I really like her character. And his. spoilers for future eps (up to 21 i guess):
  15. I think SGP mostly just meant "it'd help with getting noticed", because people aren't always around, and if someone recognizes you, it's easier to remember to invite you. But yeah there's no prerequisite. Just weird phrasing. (I hope!) I'm not sure how many people we even have who can invite other people. There's Sean, obviously. And TheLastBaron. And...

Oooh, I like that. Sort of a "flip over the card to see what the actual results were" sort of thing. Nice! Ahh, the real problem with that sort of design, though, is that it only works once. You'd need to have a huge pool of possible prophecies to make the game feel fresh for a significant amount of time. Hmm.
  17. Life

That was sort of my impression, too, but I guess some people didn't see it that way! I can understand why people dislike the conflation of introversion and social anxiety - I myself have argued against it on many occasions - but that wasn't really why I linked it in the first place. Oh well, whatever. I suck at having a social life!

I challenge the idea that I was emotionally manipulated! Also the idea that I defended the article!
  21. Who are Your Favorite Video Game Reviewers/Critics?

Cara Ellison is far and away my favorite right now. She's quite entertaining and interesting WHILE being entertaining, which is a goddamn gift. Um, I used to be a big fan of Jeff Green, but since he's basically both stopped games writing these days... ): (Though I think I remember reading he's gonna start again soon/somewhere? HERE'S HOPIN'!) Tom chick is definitely up there. Not because I agree with everything he says. In fact, I disagree with a lot of it, some of it very strongly. But I find his brutal honesty pretty endearing. Honestly those are the only names I know, really. I guess, gun to my head, I like most RPS articles. I'm bad with names!
  22. Life

Yeah okay I also know that's not what introversion actually is. That doesn't change the fact that I deal with thoughts like that on a daily basis, and that was the real point. Congratulations, you don't deal with that! I'm happy for you.
  23. Tabletop Game Development

Almost none of my game ideas would work in a tabletop environment - I'm not a very good Thinking Gamer, and so that shows when I try to make games - but I did have one quite recently where, when I pondered turning it into a multiplayer game, I realized it COULD work. Since I'm garbage at Thinking Games, I'll just throw the idea out there and whatever. A competitive recruitment game where you have a set of Prophecies that need to be fulfilled by different people - some vague, like "a red-headed woman"; some specific, like "born under the moon in a desert"; etc. Everyone has access to the same pool of heroes (maybe?!), but they might have different prophecies to fulfill. So, you bid on those heroes you need to fulfill the most valuable prophecies (some arbitrary Prophecy Point value). Sometimes fulfilling those prophecies will guarantee your kingdom prospers for a set period of time, providing more resources with which to recruit more heroes. Sometimes failing to fulfill those prophecies could result in less heroes available to you specifically for the next bidding phase. Stuff like that. So, at its core, it's a bidding game, and the prophecy stuff is all flavor. WELP THAT'S ALL I GOT!!! Yeah. I don't really give tabletop design much thought. The only thing I know for sure is that I absolutely hate randomness in long-form competitive games. If the game's guaranteed to last only twenty minutes at most, make it as random as you like, but otherwise, GET THAT DIE OUTTA HERE.

I saw this http://en.rocketnews24.com/2013/09/22/things-only-introverts-will-understand-japan-edition/ and laughed or cried because pretty much all of those quotes apply to me, with the caveat that over the past 10 years I've worked to get out of that mindset. I mostly fail, but I definitely try a lot more than I used to. And mostly fail...

Crunchyroll is ruining my life. I ain't got time for all this shit! (Well okay I do but shut up.) I watched the first episode of this: http://www.crunchyroll.com/hozuki-no-reitetsu It was a delightfully fun-loving and silly depiction of hell. I will continue watching. Also I love the opening song and video. It is the best!
