Batman is a universe full of absolutely inane and stupid bullshit and will never be the right place to address these kinds of issues, and as a result should completely remove them. Not ignore them. Remove them. There's literally no reason for the thugs in AC to call Catwoman "bitch" except for the excuse that "well that's the kind of thing that happens in real life". And so a Batman story, being focused around Batman, a guy running around in cape and underwear, whose archnemesis is a clown, has no reason to contain the word "bitch" because it is not the right place to address such issues. I guess it doesn't help that I think superheroes are fucking stupid in the first place. Not to say I don't enjoy some good stupidity every now and then, but by their very stupid nature... etc. Also, as I said in that post you quoted, I could totally see a superhero story that was able to handle any given social issue well. Just not one with all the baggage of the typical DC/Marvel universe superhero.

I would have the exact same reaction if it was racial. This is a game based on a superhero comic book. Realism doesn't matter. If it was historical fiction (or even contemporary fiction with the right setting), then it could be entirely justifiable. But superheroes are not real and, especially superheroes like Batman, should not be treated as real. (I could see a non-DC/Marvel universe superhero fiction in which things should be more... "authentic", I guess.)

To an extent, but also hearing people use "faggot" and "nigger" and "bitch" all day every day in online gaming because they're such easy insults and there's virtually no consequence almost annoys/infuriates me as much as seeing every other piece of entertainment overflowing with giant tits. The two problems may be related, but they're separate enough that you can't fight them at the same time.

Describing Sand King as a suicide bomber is doing him a great injustice. A good Sand King doesn't just ult and phase out.. he ults, stuns, backs off after the ult is over, waits for a new opportunity to stun, sandstorms for area of denial (though that does fall off late game), etc.

I think I said this in the MGS thread when it was first brought up, but basically... This is a game about a dude (or a lady) running around in his )or her) underwear beating up bad guys with fancy gadgets and kung fu. All matters of social commentary (intentional or unintentional) aside, the "realism" of using sexist language to insult a woman is completely unnecessary, because the game is unrealistic from the get-go. It doesn't bother me in the slightest if they do choose to call Catwoman a bitch, but also it wouldn't bother me in the slightest if they DIDN'T choose to do so, so why are they choosing to do so? There's no legitimate reason for it. Especially when it DOES bother some people that it exists. Also I find Bjorn's proposed scenario way too forced and on-the-nose so I don't like that. U:

The problem is the Shitty Parts of anime are, at least in my opinion, worse than the Shitty Parts of everything else. At least from the perspective of the outsider. I'm not convinced that anime is any worse off overall from the point of view of a... conniseur, but the public perception definitely suffers.

One Piece is like my favorite thing. Also JoJo is insanely long lasting not just in terms of quantity but also in terms of time passed. I'm not sure is entirely fair to judge character growth in that series based on one arc. Which is awkward because it's also entirely fair to dismiss Jojo precisely because it's so long winded. Also also the last bit of rurouni kenshin really is just completely fucking godawful. I would've recommended against ever touching that series, personally. I had fond memories of it but ugh no never again.

It's not that it's harder to catch up on Doctor Who, it's that it's literally impossible to see all of the episodes, because some of the older ones were literally destroyed. It was a joke.

It is. I discovered this when I watched the old DW episodes. I think some more episodes were recently found in some vaults somewhere? Also the audio exists for some of those episodes, so people have stitched together a bunch of stills to sort of put context to the words. It doesn't work that well.

And within that frame, it did the same thing. Within THAT frame, it finally stopped. I found it amusing, but also figured maybe you'd like to be aware of it. Who knows.

I agree with a lot of what you're saying, but you're also easily the most condescending person in all of these arguments. You always "apologize" by saying your harsh tone is unintended, it's just how you talk, blah blah blah, but then you accuse other people of being condescending without giving THEM the benefit of the doubt while asking them to forgive you. Please stop doing that.

I never found any of the puzzles particularly challenging. There were a few that stumped me for a bit, but only in a walk-away-and-come-back-to-solve-it-instantly kind of way. I also think I suck at puzzles. But maybe I don't! Also I have to contest this very strongly. What a weird thing to say! No matter how good a game something might be, if it's a genre that I'm not too interested in, it's going to turn me off. It could be the greatest racing sim game of all time, and I'm still not going to jump in.
