  1. DOTA 2

    Cool thanks guy.
  2. DOTA 2

    I'm happy for you.
  3. DOTA 2

That was nearly none of the games of LoL I played where the vote was put up at... whatever time it becomes available in LoL. By all accounts, HoN is the most vile of all communities in this genre, so, as someone else pointed out earlier, I don't think it's really fair to use that as a metric.
  4. DOTA 2

I don't believe that for a second, sorry. Anyone who's going to do that will do it with or without the surrender function.
  5. The E3 Retrospectapalooza

Ooooh that's a good call. I totally forgot (with all the other things I loved about AC2) that I really disliked that addition. It's so boring. The first game had a bit of that, but the second game and its quasi-sequels/expansions definitely made it way more obvious and... boring.
  6. DOTA 2

Yeah, for the people who don't choose the surrender option.

    irc guys we're all there
  8. Amateur Game Making Night

There are programs to alleviate the command-line heaviness of Git and SVN. Personally I prefer Git to SVN, but that's largely because I'm more used to it (though there are actual legitimate reasons to prefer one over the other). Unfortunately, I can't remember any of said programs right now. I'm the worst.
  9. Idle Thumbs Motorcycle Club

I unfortunately have nothing to add to this awesome thread because all I have right now are dreams of one day owning a motorcycle and riding across the country. Whenever I next get a job is when I will definitely start working toward that goal. But I saw this today and it made me laugh.
  10. Idle Workouts

First I had a period of a week and a half of not running and eating like shit because I was out of town. Then I came back and ran for a week. Then I went out of town over the weekend two weekends ago and I dunno slept awkwardly on a bad bed? My lower back began hurting excessively and I was unable to do anything strenuous (like BENDING OVER) for fear of LITERALLY DYING. The pain's finally died down enough that I feel comfortable running, but it still hurts some. Oddly, it hurts considerably less while I'm running than it does while walking. Different muscles, different rotations of joints, I suppose. I know I should go see a doctor about this because it's lasted a long time. It is WAY less bad than it was, but the last thing I want out of my life is to be a 27 year old old man with permanent back pains preventing me from doing things I want to do, like, I dunno, WALKING. The pain has also weirdly spread to my left leg on the outside, from ass to knee in a straight line? I don't know what's going on with me. Anyway, the takeaway is just before I started running and watching what I ate, I was about 293 pounds. A few weeks ago before I went out of town, I was about 271 pounds. Now I'm about 291 pounds. Sad. ): ... I'd love to lift weights, but that costs money I don't have. I actually like lifting weights because it's a nice solid thing that I can work towards improving, either in reps or weight. It's not very exciting, but it appeals to the "watch numbers grow!" part of my brain.
  11. Metroid Prime: Great Game or Greatest Game?

Well it's a loaded question. It's definitely not the greatest game ever designed.

What. Maybe we got really lucky! Hah. Yeah they did. You can actually auto-GG out of a game if you do team matchmaking. As in, create a team using the in-game team feature and play with that team. Works just like pro games. But, you know, you have to create a team for every group of five you want to play with. And you have to play with five every time. It's not ideal. The logic behind allowing pros to surrender and not allowing pubs to surrender is that pros have a better idea of how the flow of the game is going than pubs do. I've never bought into that argument, but that's what people will tend to throw at you if you bring it up. I know perfectly well how the flow of my own personal game at my own personal level is going. I don't need to be a professional Dota player to understand when a game is lost. But, you know, the winning team might feel sad if they don't get to attack the ancients themselves. Boo fucking hoo.
  14. DOTA 2

I played League before I got my Dota invite (and a little bit of HoN between the two, although I couldn't stand its butt-ugly aesthetics so I only played maybe ten games total), and even with a 3/5 surrender option, it was never a huge problem for me. People would start votes very frequently, absolutely, but very rarely would anyone ever give up. And if they did, it was usually someone who was bad and being a jerk blaming the rest of his team for the loss, anyway.
  15. anime

I think Haikyu!! may be my favorite sports anime ever, 10 episodes in. The dynamic between all of the characters is so fun and charming and DARE I SAY IT heartwarming. I always feel good after an episode. Man. Oh, I did start watching Kuroko's Basketball, as well. It's definitely very good! Kinda makes me want to go back and watch Slam Dunk, which I remember liking a lot. Or... did I read the manga? I think I read the manga. And I started watching Eyeshield 21 again, which was my first sports anime. WOW I FORGOT HOW LONG IT IS WHAT HAVE I DONE. Also it's definitely geared toward a much younger audience. It still features high school students, as do most sports anime, but it's much more... childish. Not like in a bad way, I just can't think of the neutral word for childish because my brain died. Well I guess it's sorta "bad" because I'm not as into it as I was when I was younger, I think. But I still enjoy the arcs of continuous growth and discovery that's so prevalent in all sports anime. Humph. Yowapeda continues to be fun. The main character is so happy. I love when he sings. HIME HIME DAISUKI I watched the first two episodes of Madoka. That was a while ago. I haven't felt inclined to go back. I know everyone says "watch at least to episode three" but man. Maybe I'm just not in the mood for it? I guess that's enough rambling for now. Didn't expect Eyeshield 21 to claim most of my attention in this post...
  16. DOTA 2

    Surrender option. REQUEST FULFILLED.
  17. DOTA 2

I feel I should reiterate: it's not an option anymore! Unless... they added it back in. I'd find that surprising, though. I don't think it was ever intentional. It was just a side effect of attempting to automatically end the game after an abandon leads to everyone quitting the game.
  18. DOTA 2

This used to be true. It's not anymore. The first person to disconnect gets an abandon after five minutes, and then the game officially ends thirty seconds later. Just saying this doesn't make it okay. I wish it did. But! It's not okay! It's a problem that needs to be fixed!
  19. DOTA 2

nj00s stop being like that. It's not losing. It's being forced to endure a game of hell for way longer than is necessary. You know this, and yet you're pretending that's not the case because you think it helps your argument. It just makes you look like an ass. I guess if that's your intent, good job. undermind: I disagree completely. There are very few instances all told when I actually completely give up in a game. I mean, it has happened. I have almost 2500 games of Dota. I'm not perfect. I'm pretty bad, in fact. So losing is a thing that happens. But I almost never give up. I'd say a max of maybe fifty of those games did I just straight up give up completely, while still going through the motions. I'd treat a surrender option exactly the same way. Even games I was sure I'd lose (and did end up losing), I don't regret playing them all. Adding a unanimous surrender option would change none of that for me. I'd still vote no most of the time if a vote was called. I'd still keep trying even if I voted yes and someone else voted no. The surrender option only exists (I mean, if it existed) for those rare occasions when you know you've got no chance and literally no one on your team wants to continue. That's all there is to it.
  20. DOTA 2

Non-pro players can and will grief their own team regardless of the surrender option, so that's not really a valid point, is it? undermind: yeah I edited my post with an extra sentence because I realized he might've been talking about HoN. My bad!
  21. DOTA 2

No it's not... The only value to battlepoints in Dota are that you gain a pointless level and are guaranteed a cosmetic item drop. That is literally it. Well, I guess they changed it so new players have to reach a certain level to unlock different matchmaking options. So, I'm sorry, but if you care about battlepoints past that point, well, you shouldn't. Even if you do, for some ridiculous reason, battlepoints in Dota are strictly delivered based on time played, I believe? So, being able to surrender and move on to the next game will give you the same amount even if the next game only lasts as long as the first game would have continued past the surrender point.
  22. DOTA 2

I mean I don't know why you're acting ignorant! That's awkward. You know exactly the number one problem it solves: Getting stuck in a miserable game. Better matchmaking cannot possibly solve that ever, because sometimes you just get fucked even though you should be evenly matched. Nothing can solve that except being able to give up. Or I suppose redesigning the game so that matches are half as long as they are now. But we all know that's not going to happen, nor should it.
  23. DOTA 2

I don't know what any of that means. I thought we were talking about Dota! Are they called battlepoints in HoN, too?
  24. DOTA 2

Add a cooldown to the vote. Five minutes, or even ten or fifteen minutes. No longer spammable. BOOSH. Problem solved. Unanimity is a requirement. Getting trolled every once in a blue moon is much better than being forced to concede because of a bad team fight. Surrender solves problems that nothing else could solve. Teams prolonging the game (unintentionally out of fear or intentionally because they're douchebags - the latter of which I believe happens more than the former, which is terrible) is the number one reason we need the surrender option. Games lasting fifteen or twenty or thirty minutes longer than they need to is fucking stupid and a waste of my time. I don't care if the enemy team is having fun. My team is not. We're sitting there playing with out own shit waiting for the enemy to actually push for once in their fucking life because we can't leave the base or we die, we can't farm the creeps that come up to our tower or we die, and even if we could, they control more than two thirds of the map which guarantees they'll stay ahead in farm. And then they go get rosh and deny the aegis because that's so funny.
