Wow, because I'm impatient and I skim articles and that guy looks sorta like one of my old teachers at DigiPen, who's all about equality and inclusiveness in gaming, I was really fucking confused at first and then realized it was a completely different guy and was relieved.
  2. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

    AGREED. SONIC SUCKS. REAL TALK.
  3. Idle Digging - Shovel Knight

I'm sort of disappointed at how many of those cheats are just "start with good items". I was hoping for a lot more wacky stuff like the Butt Mode and the 4x Size mode. Anyway I devoured everything this game had to offer in mere days. I think three days? I got all the cheesemints. D: I can't wait for the three boss campaigns. Do we actually know which three it'll be? I know the backers get to vote on it, but I'm not a backer so I don't know nothin'.
  4. Boooo. I think everyone who made it to TI4 should get some money. They're the 15th and 16th best teams in the world! (According to Valve's setup for TI4, anyway, I suppose.) The prize pool is enormous! Spread it out a little more.
  5. 10%. And the devs of the game also get 10%.
  6. Idle Digging - Shovel Knight

There are apparently over 300 of these weird codes. http://www.idigitaltimes.com/articles/23163/20140523/shovel-knight-release-date-interview-wii-steam.htm

Both Fallen London and Welcome to Night Vale are "weird fiction", though Fallen London does veer a bit more toward the Victorian era whereas Night Vale is set in a modern world. Fallen London is fantastic to play because you just check in every now and then and make some decisions. Don't treat it like a game you play all day every day. Treat it like a game you check in on once a day. It's so good. Also Daft Souls has women on it. Not every episode, but it's gone 13 episodes so far and had women on I think just under half of the episodes? I think they just have a pool of people and whoever's available talks for the week. http://www.shutupandsitdown.com/blog/post/daft-souls-new-podcast-us-about-video-games/

  13. The Transformer movies have been consistently fun when they're about giant robots fighting each other!
  14. DOTA 2

Yeah everybody fucking buys a blink these days. Still not as bad as the flash-fest that is LoL, but goddamn infuriating sometimes nonetheless.
  15. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

I don't know if I posted this in here before, but if you're a fan of nerdy music, there's this band called Chamber Band! They made an album full of love songs that take place within a D&D-type universe. Here's one of my favorite songs from the album.

Oh, on the subject of female people on nerdy podcasts, there is also The Nerdy Show, which is this enormous podcasting conglomerate with a billion different podcasts (and unfortunately no way to subscribe to them on an individual basis, but it's okay because they don't spam their feed with a new episode every day). http://nerdyshow.com/ They can be rather... enthusiastically ignorant in their nerddom but their passion sorta makes it really fun. Featured among the various podcasts is a series with an all-gay cast, a fantasy table-top roleplaying radio show featuring one consistent woman (and a self-proclaimed asexual man playing a female character (I hope I'm not mixing up hosts, that would be really embarrassing!)), a Ghostbusters table-top roleplaying radio show featuring one consistent woman, etc. Obviously they don't talk just about video games - they also talk about comics and Star Wars and cartoons and sci-fi TV and and and and LOTS of music talk, they love their nerdy music. They have lots of very awkward fanperson interviews with Nerd Thing creators, but also plenty of actually decent interviews (in my opinion). It may not be your thing, this strange hydra of nerdy podcasting, but it also may! So I'm throwing it out there. They're not perfect and do make some mistakes - I think it was a couple months ago, one of the hosts on the Main Show made a casual rape joke, but a guest on that episode from another podcast (The Derpy Show, I think) on the network called him out on it. But overall I think they're much, much better than the majority of nerdy communities tend to be. So there's my weird quasi-recommendation.
  17. Yes obviously but when I'm complaining I don't have time for logic or reason!
  18. Gods Will Be Watching

Wow that is brutal. Give it to me.

Esports Express is fantastic. The Onion of gaming.
  20. Damn right! I hate long movies. ): I mean fuck I remember thinking 90 minutes was long when I was a kid. FIX THIS SHIT, MOVIE INDUSTRY.

Also, I don't think there's anything saying women CAN'T participate in professional Dota 2 tournaments, but I think there are literally zero of them that could participate at the level of The International. Not because they can't be that good (obviously - that would be an absolutely stupid conclusion to reach), but because it's so hard for them to break in and get to that point. That's a separate issue from this dumb Hearthstone tournament bullshit, though. There have been female Dota 2 tournaments, but... they're not very fun to watch. They're also sort of a joke. And they do a lot of that gross "aren't they so hot" gross gross. I remember when some SC2 team recruited a female a couple years ago, and the shitstorm surrounding that. Man it's fucking dumb. I actually think segregating genders in most "real sports" makes some real sense - a woman playing football is unlikely to not be completely dwarfed by the muscle-freaks she'd be playing alongside* - but with e-sports what the fuck does it matter? *But then again, what if she wasn't? What if she proved she was a really good running back, for example, and didn't have to go toe-to-toe with a lineman? Sports are dumb. E-sports are dumb. Everything's dumb. Uarguh.

Fallen London is so good. SO GOOD.
  23. Haha I know it's incredible! I'm pretty fucking thankful to the computer gods right now. And Dota 2 runs smooth as butter now. I'm so happy.
