  1. P.T (Playable Teaser for Silent Hills)

I don't agree with that! I think it's pretty cool.
  2. Recently completed video games

I think the atmosphere and story and tone of the game hold up very well today, so if that's your main issue with the game, then it's probably just a matter of taste, unfortunately! If your main issue is with the gameplay, however... Well, it's an old game for sure. It felt pretty great way back then, but I played it somewhat recently myself, and while the structure of the world and the level design is still pretty all right, the actual mechanics of gameplay - and, in particular, the fucking camera - are nowhere near as strong as they were back then. I pretty much agree with everything Merus said. It's also one of my favorite games!
  3. Ferguson

I agree with this, but before that what the country needs is to stop handing out free military equipment to the police.
  4. Feminism

Haha, geez, I actually thought it was the opposite! Psychopaths don't care, sociopaths can't care. Awkwaaaaaaard. EDIT: This, which is apparently an opinion piece, at least outlines the similarities between the two. http://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/wicked-deeds/201401/how-tell-sociopath-psychopath I'm sure someone more informed can find or provide a much better explanation. I just did a quick search for "sociopath vs psychopath". Also sorry this is veering off topic. ): I don't have much to say on the topic of Yet More Twitter Harassments. It continues to be depressing and infuriating.
  5. Feminism

I've been called a sociopath for trolling on the internet before. Uh I mean I've never trolled anyone in my life. Anyway it happened frequently enough when I was younger, but I actually really feel bad whenever I think I've hurt someone. I think I honestly just didn't realize how hurtful it could be back then, and that's why I did it. Not out of lack of empathy or anything. That said, I don't think I was the typical internet troll. I think a lot of them - especially those who throw about rape or death threats - are aware of how hurtful their words are and use them because they want to be hurtful.
  6. The threat of Big Dog

Similar thoughts occurred to me, too, James. It seems like as production of the Necessities becomes more and more automated, we should be more and more willing ot hand it out for super cheap, if not for free. And relatedly, unemployment is going to shoot into the atmosphere, but... is that really a bad thing? With the necessities being so cheaply produced, unemployment shouldn't be a problem anymore, because those people can survive comfortable (theoretically) and do what they love doing instead of doing what they have to in order to survive. I'm probably being somewhat idealistic. I recall a thread a while ago on these forums that discussed a general living allowance, handed freely to every citizen. Some countries already do this and it appears to successfully encourage people to work, rather than make them lazy. I wonder how robots doing the "blue collar" jobs would affect that sort of economy. Mmmh. Fun to think about. I need someone more intelligent (or at least less ignorant on the subject) to tell me what to think!
  7. I'm not sure if you're talking to me - you're probably talking to Gormongous! - but that's not what I was saying. I just find it weird to have the kinds of opinions being expressed. I'm not saying you can't have them - just that I struggle to understand them in any capacity. U:
  8. Dota has also traditionally been most popular in non-English speaking territories, so it's only natural for their adaptions to find a way back into our language. Chalk this up as yet another thing I find odd to find odd.
  9. It's probably brought up because Chris recently talked about it on a Three Moves Ahead episode all about it, so you should CHECK THAT OUT TOO BJORN.
  10. anime

Yeah Haikyu!! does have that going for it! I've already seen Eve no Jikan and I liked it. It didn't make me cry, though!
  11. "Chortle" is a fantastic word! Apologize. ): I honestly don't want to get into it because I clearly fall very far on the other side of the fence from the majority of people here. I love new words. Even new words that I hate.
  12. Movie/TV recommendations

We got to talking about TMNT in the IDLE THUMBS IRC CHANNEL COME JOIN US ONE AND ALL and I accidentally started watching this again. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pT8TgMzPsCU SO GOOD.
  13. I can actually empathize with that, but if that's their justification, they need to reproduce the entire interview in text, rather than just rip a few quotes completely out of context and then try to get the rest of the internet angry with them. I mean, I get that that's how the internet works, and I'm rather used to it, but sometimes I just want to complain about it, and so now I have. PEACE.
  14. anime

There's a lot from the current season I'm interested in and/or have enjoyed what little I've watched - and I'll probably comment on it all at a later point - but I'm going through a lot of older anime these days. I finished up Record of Lodoss War (definitely accurately described to me as D&D made anime - but unfortunately very poorly paced, and not all that interesting, story-wise... there's a remake, though? maybe that's better?) and Hellsing Ultimate (god if I never get to hear another ten minute monologue from a short fat Nazi major about how much he loves war and wants to see the world burn, I'll be a very sad man). I'm now in the process of watching Eden of the East (in fact, I marathoned the first 8 episodes last night, and will probably finish up and watch the movies at some point today... it's right up my alley). As a side note, regarding Eden, look at this: This girl is a college graduate. What an amazing contrast to the typical high school anime where the girls have breasts the size of their head! I really love the art in this one. Also the few times they have people speaking English instead of Japanese in this, it actually almost sounds like real English. Much better than when they did it in Hellsing, that's for sure.
  15. It's fascinating to me when people get upset at language changing and adapting. I mean, I do it, too, absolutely, but every time I sit back and try to be objective about it I realize I'm just being a grumpy old man about it.
  16. I guess I see where you're coming from, and I apologize for falsely accusing you of such a thing. I just hate when we finally have an example of a lot of things done right and instead of celebrating it, we find ways to pick it apart and get angry. I'm not saying that's exactly what you were doing, but it's a trend I see a lot of and it really rubs me the wrong way, even if it's only being done just a little tiny bit.
  17. I think that would be a fair complaint if she was the only person of color in the game, or if no people of color survived, or or or. That's not the case, though. I think it is actively Not Good to hold this against Telltale, regardless of the state of the entertainment industry as a whole. TWD is one of those few examples of actually being diverse, and they even largely manage to do it without being stereotypical about it.
  18. I Had A Random Thought...

    It's a "first to console".
  19. I'm just going to state now, since it was brought up again, that given the wide diversity of race and ethnicity found in The Walking Dead games, I don't think it's fair to hold it against Telltale that they killed a young Hispanic girl. The first game starred a black man, and the second game stars a half-black girl, and pretty much everyone's destined to die, so it's not unsurprising that another little kid died after Duck, regardless of race. This is all outside the context of the current argument regarding ableism, just to make that perfectly clear. ..........Of course, as I typed that I realized that 3/5 of the surviving members of Clem's group are white, so I guess I've convinced myself maybe it's not as great as it could be. But even so. EDIT: Oh, and Jane ran off on her own, so I guess she counts as a "survivor", as well.
  20. But do you know of anyone who's living in the zombie apocalypse? I know that's a loaded question, but it's also a legitimate one. I think it's totally realistic for a kid to be in permanent freak-out mode in the face of imminent disaster around every corner, especially with a coddling father trying to keep her away from it all, and failing at every turn.
  21. Yeah, I had also never heard the term "neurodivergent" before, and I assumed it was a very specific kind of mental disability. Then I looked it up, and I like the word. It's a good word. It'll take some time for me to adjust to using it where it should be used, but I'm glad I learned of it. So, at the very least, one good thing came from all this! For me, anyway. I think I also agree with you in one sense, SBM, but... I think it's still fair to use the word "ableist" in reference to this, as using the concept of "neurodivergence" to refer to Sarah, or people who actually are like that, doesn't preclude other people being discriminatory. In other words, just because we're using a word that attempts to fight discrimination doesn't mean the discrimination doesn't still exist.
  22. "Jargon" sounds like jargon to me! Ew, that word looks so gross now. I can't grok it. I'm out.
  23. No, that's something I experienced, too. But in this case I took it as a father sheltering his daughter a little too much, rather than what's being asserted now. It didn't even cross my mind. Until now, I mean. Which is why I brought it up.
