  1. I Had A Random Thought...

Hoooly shit the payoff. That was wonderful.
  2. anime

Amagi's on my list, but I haven't gotten to it, yet. I did finish Princess Nine. It was decent! I think my previously stated opinion from ~20 episodes in (it's 26 long) still stands. The last episode was particularly amusing when ohhh boy. I watched the first episode of The Flowers of Evil last night. I went in blind, only picked it because the rotoscoping made it look interesting. I'm not sure what it is, yet, but it seems to have a sort of Imminent Dread feel to it. Also it taught me that the Japanese name for Army of Darkness is... Captain Supermarket.

Haha. Damn right using shift key! People who use the caps lock key for all caps are WEIRD. *first post new page dance* In other news, I'm sort of slowing down on Princess Nine. I think maybe I'm TOO MANLY for this girly sports girliness. I kid, but it is definitely focusing a lot more on personal relationships and romance outside the context of the sport they're playing, and less on the camaraderie and sheer joy of the sport that the typical sports anime so strongly embraces. You might say it veers more toward shoujo than shonen. O: Not that any of this is bad, but it's not what I like about sports anime, which, as I've stated before, is totally my junk food anime. I still like it, but for different reasons, I guess. It might be more likable for other people, though. (The romance, etc. is pretty juvenile, though. But that's to be expected!) EDIT: The other thing I guess is that they've had a total of two games of baseball in 20 episodes. And now they're doing a training camp. Training camps, as everyone knows!, ARE the best part of every sports anime, though.
  4. anime

...with my intentionally misspelled "CARTTOONS" and "AMINE"? You're right, I am the harbinger of doom. I'm not mad, just bored. Heard it before, will hear it again.
  5. Yep! THIS IS TRUE! Also, I can appreciate not getting spoiled and I will actively avoid anything that I know would spoil it, but I think if a spoiler ruins an experience for me, it's not really a great experience in the first place. I've never felt like Not Knowing a Thing would have made something I disliked suddenly better. Conversely, I've never felt like Knowing a Thing has actively made something worse. It's just a different kind of enjoyment. For me, anyway.
  6. anime

wakfu is a french anime. avatar is an american anime (ps this argument is one of the oldest and dumbest anime arguments i hope you all feel really bad about yourselves)
  7. anime

Well I'll get around to it after I finish... everything else on my list. Or sooner. Who knows. FAVORITE huh. Also I forgot about Kaiba on the Yuasa front. To be honest, though I'm not down on it, it's not a favorite of mine. However, it probably deviates the most from the typical anime style than anything else I've seen by him (barring partnerships ala the aforementioned Adventure Time episode).
  8. anime

You keep bringing up Zetsubou so I guess I have to add it to my watch list. ): Also: Yuasa's Space Dandy episode: YEP!
  9. anime

THIS ISNT CARTTOONS THIS IS AMINE Hmmm for Cool Art basically everything by Massaki Yuusa is great: The Tatami Galaxy, Ping Pong, Mind Game, Kemonozume are the ones I've seen, in no particular order (as well as his work on single episodes of Wakfu, Adventure Time, and Space Dandy - which I didn't realize he'd done work on, but looking back it's incredibly obvious - good episode, too). I think I'd particularly recommend Mind Game. It's a movie, but it's fuuuuuuuucking great. I don't actually remember much of Kemonozume, and I saw it before I really knew who Yuasa was, so I can't recommend that. But yeah if you like Tatami, watch Mind Game. And Ping Pong. For less abstract wackiness that still embraces surreality, one of the more recent ones I've really enjoyed (though not seen an echoed sentiment anywhere ;_; ) is Arakawa Under the Bridge. A guy discovers and joins a wacky cast of outcasts living under a bridge, including a bunch of people who believe and act in full seriousness as a kappa (human turtle demon thing if you don't know), an alien, and other weird stuff. That makes it sound pretty cartoonish and gag-filled, and it can be, but it's got some real sincerity to it that I super appreciate. What I don't know I'm mostly rambling. I'll just list a few more weird ones, I guess, without explanation or context, just sorta randomly picked from among my large pool of "favorites": The Eccentric Family, Samurai Flamenco, Kino's Journey, Humanity Has Declined. also also MUSHISHI MUSHISHI MUSHISHI MUSHISHI MUSHISHI MUSHISHI MUSHISHI MUSHISHI MUSHISHI MUSHISHI MUSHISHI MUSHISHI MUSHISHI MUSHISHI MUSHISHI MUSHISHI MUSHISHI MUSHISHI MUSHISHI MUSHISHI MUSHISHI MUSHISHI MUSHISHI MUSHISHI MUSHISHI MUSHISHI
  10. anime

Tatami Galaxy is fantastic. But also nothing like Twin Peaks. Well beside the surreal feel to it all. Anyway it's one of my favorites so you're welcome.
  11. Life

If it's any consolation, I was almost in Ohio during the time of my recent ten-year high school reunion, and even if I was, I absolutely wouldn't have gone, no chance in hell, no sirree, get me the fuck out of there! I will also never go to a college reunion. Well, I'd go to a DigiPen reunion, but that basically just happens every year at GDC anyway, so there's no need. Oh shit I just realized I can go to the alumni party this upcoming GDC, since I actually graduated and have my diploma now. Neat.
  12. anime

Yes and all that too! Anyway, it's a good anime, but in my opinion it is miles behind Nichijou in terms of pure entertainment value. I unfortunately watched them in the same order you would be if you decided to, and I wish I had gotten to them in the opposite order. I was sort of let down! AFAIK, Azumanga Daioh is the progenitor of that type of anime? (Daily Lives of High School Boys is my favorite of the bunch, but I think that's mostly because I did a lot of weird shit like they do in high school so I guess I just identify with it more.)
  13. anime

Azumanga Daioh is the ORIGIN of the waifu meme, but also has like none of what you're probably thinking of. It's just a one-off line from the creepy teacher when he's showing a picture of his wife to someone, I think. (Yes he is a creepy teacher and watches the young girls swim and is a pedo (though does not act on it beyond blatantly staring). So take that for what you will.)
  14. Oh. DUH. Kill la Kill.
  15. Yeah Miffy that's what I was going on re: Bayonetta. Does running around as Naked Raiden count? I think it does! Elizabeth from Bioshock Infinite wearing the low-cut dress because she's supposed to be a sort of "trophy"? Now that I'm being pressed I'm actually having a hard time thinking of any good anime examples besides Nami from One Piece. D: Oh, oh, any time a "one-with-nature" type of character wears very little clothing? I'm specifically thinking of Eve from Freedom Force, but there are countless examples of this trope. --- It occurs to me that I suppose it's important to make the distinction between people being naked/sexily-dressed for story reasons, and people's bodies just being modified (not explicitly, just like "hey she's sexy because:") so as to be More Attractive for story reasons. The first few examples we came up with were body-mods, but Bayonetta and the few I just presented are more the naked-getting types.
  16. I would say yes for sure to the Bayonetta example (though I also have not played it - yet).
  17. emote me

    says who??
  18. well yeah of course that's obvious i was just waiting for someone else to say it
  19. Yeah I fall on the side of Booty Backstory. It's got some nice flow!
  20. Also known as One Piece Syndrome, which I just made up because it's the first time I ever saw it happen, and also the most egregious. I love that anime for a lot of reasons but this has always bothered me. Gormongous' torturous in-universe explanation - which I will call the Booty Backstory because Bjorn is a goddamn genius - for this is that she "grew older" and so OF COURSE her breasts are now twice the size of a watermelon. EDIT: What's it take to start a TV Tropes page? There's got to be enough examples of the Booty Backstory to justify it. Of course, there's probably already a page on there somewhere, we just don't know what it's called.
  21. National Novel Writing Month: NaNoWrimo

This is one of those things I always want to do but never will because I am an unmotivated disaster of a human being.
  22. Non-video games

    Perfect.
  23. Non-video games

It's also worth noting that while I vastly prefer the RP portion to the combat portion of things - I am complete garbage at getting over the "this is so awkward pretending to be a fantasy character" hurdle. I try but I'm bad at it. That's why I tend to play goofier characters.
  24. Recently completed video games

    Easy enough to blacklist anyway.
  25. Non-video games

I just like to be able to be goofy and have fun, no matter what I'm doing. U: I once played a mute dwarf barbarian who only drank milk - which of course most bars and taverns didn't have on tap! - because he had once done something bad while drunk that caused him to get kicked out of his clan and he of course was constantly depressed. I do silly things. I'd definitely like to move away from the Stereotypical Western Fantasy setting, if possible, because that's all I've ever had the chance to play, but I'm not against it if that's easiest for everyone involved.
