I think the problem is Double Fine went into this expecting to make a constant stream of money from early access sales, not realizing that Dwarf Fortress - the most popular and long-lasting game in this specific genre - makes like a couple thousand a month off voluntary donations (data NOT RELIABLE: comes from the like three times total I researched a specific month during my Dorftress lovefest a few years ago). Prison Architect seems to be doing well, but it's the exception, not the rule. They also put out updates Basically Never after the first few months, which is why I ended up almost forgetting about it until it was announced that development was going to end. Prison Architect puts out updates on a monthly basis, I think? Or near to it. Regular enough that I'd be surprised if I went a couple months without seeing anything. I'm like you: I looooove these kinds of games, and was just waiting and waiting for it to get better, because I KNEW it would. Well, I was wrong. Alas.

"It doesn't explain away with a weak rationalization" is a judgment of the justification. You're right that the problem isn't with whether or not the justification is good. The fact that it IS a justification is all that matters. The second we start judging which ones are worthy justifications - ones that earn their place - and which ones aren't is the second we get hung up on examples like this one. The facts are: It is a justification. Well, I guess that's just a fact. Singular. That said, Bjorn is right, I guess. Not worth arguing about something SO INCREDIBLY BRAINMELTINGLY OBVIOUS when we have so few examples as is GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER PEOPLE.

I've been continuing to play through NSMBU. It continues to be better than I expected. I've almost finished the main game, although I noticed today that it counts the flag poles I've hit at the top, and not noticed a way to distinguish between the two states on the map, and that's going to drive me crazy unless it reveals itself to me after I beat the game or something. D: And then there's Luigi U, which I haven't touched yet. Does he actually control like Luigi? I love the floaty high jumpy slippery Luigi feel and I'm going to be disappointed if it's just like Mario.

1) I disagree with your premise. I've seen some people back out of GG after a presentation of facts. One of my friends, the one least likely to back down if you'd asked me beforehand!, actually did change his mind over the course of a couple hours. Obviously you don't run up at them and shove an article in their face "HEY LOOK AT THIS, SHIT-FOR-BRAINS". But if they don't respond well to calm discussion, then... fuck 'em. 2) I'm not trying to "convert" anyone (this implies "sides", which I have issues with for a lot of reasons), besides my friends, all of whom luckily do not identify with GG at this point. I inform them of the problem, and that's it. If they continue to be full of shit, then I'm out. They're a waste of my time until they realize the error of their ways. I have no patience for this bullshit anymore. It is gone.
