  1. Isn't it sort of implied (or even explicitly stated) that Summer Lady Whose Name I Forgot kind of gets way hotter over time? I guess it could just be magical outward appearances as you said. Also I guess she gets older and "matures", as it were... Um. Anyway, I still don't know how to classify it.
  2. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Agreed. I am in love. I mean, let's just throw all logic out the window and look at both possibilities: 1) It's real. Awesome! 2) It's fake. They believe it's real anyway. It does the job he's accused of already having done. Awesome! There is no universe in which they don't believe it because they're all about these wacky conspiracy theories. Perfect. Beautiful.

Hah, ouch. Well, I'm going to file that one under plain ol' ignorance, rather than willful ignorance, until I see otherwise. That's where most of the Ryckertisms go for me. I wonder like... if he'll REALIZE some day... Now THAT'S a video I want to see. That precise moment when finally all that gradual pushing and pulling finally reaches that point, and it just clicks, and he goes "oooh". Dan Ryckert is a fascinating specimen.
  4. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Clarification! Hurray! (I'm pretty sure it still predates Dota's shitty wizards, though. At the very least, I'm 100% positive no one on the 'cast knew about Dota's shitty wizards until after it was coined. Someone probably emailed in about it at some point.)
  5. Is that how it is? I'd forgotten all of that. I mean, I knew that was true when they go into the real world, but... What about in the case of those humans who become faeries. You know who I'm talking about! In fact, the queens, in general, I don't know if I ever got the impression they were choosing the way they looked - they just look that way from the start, because the Sidhe domain is the closest to the mortal world, and it naturally affects them as such?
  6. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Uhhh you might be right? I could've sworn it was the D3 wizard reveal trailer but my memory sucks so I can't say for sure!

... i am watching this now HOW IS THIS A REAL HUMAN BEING
  8. Yeah I realized I'd forgotten to mention that they choose to feed off lust rather than other things (ironically arguably making them less "evil" than other Houses that choose fear, for example, but that's a different discussion). Luckily you brought it up for me! I think the fact that they chose it actually supports the idea of them fitting into this trope. (Which runs contrary to my contrariness re: Bayonetta, I know... I'm bad at this. I'm sorry.) Basically, my reasoning is: they could arguably have chosen any emotion off of which to feed, but at some point in their history, Raith arbitrarily chose lust. Now, it might not actually be arbitrary in the fiction, but that it IS fiction is the point. Jim Butcher could have made them anything else, but he chose to justify their existence as sex vampires. --- Speaking of Dresden Files, I guess we should probably also discuss the Faeries... I think this is a little more straightforward, because all (human-like) faeries are meant to be the embodiment of perfect beauty. The only thing here is do we treat it like the standard sex demon trope above - where the "justification" is actually just because it's already a trope for faeries to be super hot, or do we treat it as its own in-universe justification. FWIW, I lean more toward the side of not including it the BGB trope.
  9. Life

Cine we may have dumb quibbles from time to time but you're a cool dude! One day after I've actually played Dark Souls 2, I'd like to watch you stream it!
  10. Bayonetta

I've only played a bit of the game (first one), and the gameplay doesn't really grab me - never been a fan of character action games, and this one feels identical to the rest, despite everyone saying it's So Much Better Though For Real!!!! - BUT. Dang I love the style and the music and the whacked out story and most of all I love how even though Bayonetta is clearly sexy as fuck, she owns the hell out of it. That last bit is important (to me) because I was super skeptical of it all, but once I played the game it is just wow, she is happy to be sexy. I mean obviously she's probably still just Kamiya's fetish or whatever, but at least he made her a real character. I'll probably keep playing it! After I'm done with Fantasy Life...
  11. Having now actually played (a tiny bit) of Bayonetta, I'm not so sure I stand by my original statement that she should be included. It's never explicitly stated that she HAS to be half-naked during combat because of her hair being magical or whatever. In fact, the (first) game starts with her fully clothed (as a sexy nun, of course), before she just rips it all off herself after battle damage and voluntarily goes hair-clothed. Also man, she is just utterly confident and happy to be as sexy as possible. It's so weird to play a game like this where it feels okay because the character is all for it. Of course, I'm aware some disagree, but that's how it came off to me. But now I'm going off on a tangent. ANYWAY! Also, I agree that succubi/incubi should not be included in this trope! At least, not by default. If they go out of their way to say "hey she (or he!) is totally a sex demon and blah blah blah" and then said sex demon never really does any sexing, then I'd say that qualifies. Of course, as I typed that above paragraph, I recalled the White Court vampires from The Dresden Files. They are sex vampires, rather than blood vampires. They get their freak on to feed. This often results in them becoming uncontrollably sexy when the hunger gets too great and they'll get all nekkid and affect all the people around them and make them wanna get nekkid and such. Maybe it's just because it's not the straight-up traditional-style sex demon trope that it stands out to me. I don't know. SAM? You read The Dresden Files, right? What's your opinion!
  12. ?! I had no idea this was happening. Well, that's as good an excuse as any to replay this game. So good.
  13. Cool cool! At this point, then, people just need to sign up for the games. I might be interested in playing both, although an every-week commitment is a bit much, so I'm not sure if I should. At any rate, If there's too few people in the D&D game (I'm hoping not!), I'll volunteer at least until someone else hopefully comes along. I have nothing else to do for the foreseeable future. D:
  14. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Oh, no, Thumbs' version existed prior to Dota's.
  15. Haha, sorry about that, Jason. I'll fix that, shortly. Also, awesome. Two games! (Assuming Reyturner is still up for running a game?) That's cool! I'm in on Numenera, obviously. Merus, when you say max six, does that include you?
  16. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Idle Thumbs Shitty Wizard is a reference to Diablo 3. This is up in the air. They've never made an official comment on it, but, yeah, every hero has a line for it.
  17. Yeah for sure! I'll definitely keep editing that post with any new information or requests thrown my way. Also, just to be clear, if you're still interested and haven't piped in, yet, this is by no means a closed thing! There's enough people for two games with room to spare (assuming no overlaps, which I'll be honest, I'm likely to do, depending on time slots).
  18. Jutranjo also expressed interest in IRC. At this point we have more than enough people for two games, if we can arrange it all properly. I'm... bad at organizing things, so I'd rather not be the person doing it, but! We have three possible GMs: Merus, Jason, and Reyturner. Jason can only do World of Darkness; Reyturner only D&D5e; and Merus is up for D&D5e, Numenera or Eclipse Phase. We should probably decide if we're going to try to do two games or just the one. If we're only doing one... well, seven players and a GM is a bit unwieldy. Probably the best way to figure it all out is to start suggesting timeframes and if people don't match up, then... Well that solves the problem for us? Merus can only do Friday nights (American time), which means IF we ended up doing Eclipse Phase and Numenera, that would be the only time slot for those, unless someone else would volunteer. Those are, as I've mentioned, my top two picks, so I guess that's one possible game. ...I guess I'll add "Possible Actual Games" to the first post, now. Sign up if you're interested? I guess just say whatever you're interested in for now, and we'll whittle it down from there. Did I mention I'm bad at organizing things? I also changed "American Time" to "CST", since that's right in the middle of the continental US.
  19. The Big LucasArts Playthrough

Wow I love the disco level 'cause bouncin' 'round on that dang ball is so fun. D:
  20. Video Game Baby - Idle Parents

That's fair enough. I can't really hold it against you except that you're dead wrong and I only hate you forever! Forever's not that long.
  21. Dreams!

I had a quite depressing dream about how depressed I was feeling. The dream is also depressingly boring. I was watching some TV show or movie or something about a girl who was clearly depressed, and I kept watching it and going, "Yeah, that's pretty much exactly how I feel. I'm definitely depressed." How depressing! I find it amusing that I needed to dream up even more confirmation that I am, in fact, a miserably depressed individual, when I'm already well aware of this depressing fact. Was that too depressing? I'm sorry.
  22. Video Game Baby - Idle Parents

I'm sort of impressed that you're bothered by collecting eggs. It's such a quick and easy thing to do, and while it's been a while since I've played it, I don't know if I ever felt like it was a hurdle I had to work to jump over. Do you just want to rush through the game as fast as possible, or something? I felt that way while playing NSMBU until I got used to the fact that I'd forgotten: Mario games are just super fucking slow compared to most modern indie platformers. Horrifically slow, until you get used to it. Bleh. Mario sucks. Old hat. Burn it all. I'm on your side now.
  23. Cyberpunk Cop Killah (aka The Last Night)

Hah, well, I'm willing to believe either origin, and I'm also willing to believe both definitions are used, and I also think that it's a dumb word either way! So I guess it doesn't really matter!
  24. Cyberpunk Cop Killah (aka The Last Night)

Then why do people call themselves movie buffs or cinephiles? Everyone watches movies! So we don't need words for that! "Gamer" is the same thing for me. I don't care about its past connotation or its future connotation or even its present connotation. It means what it means for me, and I will continue using it, and I'll be damned if I let someone who thinks I shouldn't tell me otherwise! It's the only way to get it to where I want it to be. I will say that I definitely do not think of a nerdy guy when I hear the word gamer. I think of two things: 1) a person who plays games and considers them important to their identity (e.g., me) and 2) bullshit like gamergate (i.e., bullshit). (EDIT: I guess there is the basic definition which is just "someone who plays games", but I'm willing to let that one fall off for the reasons you and others have stated before. When something becomes ubiquitous, the word doesn't need to be used that way. Fortunately, I'm not using it that way.) But I'm confident and willing enough to separate the first as the legitimate meaning as it is important to me, and the second as an unfortunate image association that I will work toward getting rid of by sheer force of will. Unless you have a better suggestion? If something better comes along, I'm all ears. But there's nothing so far. Gamephile? Hehe no. Game buff? I guess? I'd rather just use gamer. I don't like the way buff sounds. Hmm. Vidconner! I could do that one, but only because it tickles my dumb-fictional-word-for-games fancy. But then it also sounds like I'm a conman. I also thought the same thing re: "butthurt". That's interesting that it's not a gay slur. Where are you getting this definition from? Not that I don't believe you, but I am curious. (I also think it's just a dumb word, so I don't use it, either.)
