  1. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

If I call myself a gamer, it is neither dumb, nor outdated. It is a word I use to describe a part of myself. I feel like a broken record. Guys, just because you don't want to identify with a word doesn't mean other people aren't allowed to. It's not "dumb" if I consider gaming important to me. It's not "dumb" to use a word to easily identify that importance. It's only dumb if I don't acknowledge or allow for things outside of that part of my identity to exist for both myself and others.
  2. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Your negative "definition" is all connotation, though. Plenty of words can be good or bad based on how people use them. This is why I generally use them in a positive way. You fucking nerd.
  3. Binding of Isaac: Rebirth

Dang. I really feel for them. I love this kind of thing when it's legitimately solved. I don't think they'd be as upset if it had been. They'd have just been like "wow we underestimated the voracity of our fans", rather than "god fucking damnit fucking data fucking miners". At least I'd like to think as much. I mean you can definitely argue (and I would) that they should've expected dataminers to dig in once the secret was known to exist. But it still sucks.
  4. anime

I dunno! I just do it because I'm weird and love keeping track of all the things I do. I love in-depth statistics in my activities. Which is hell when I think "oh I should add another column to this Google spreadsheet" and I don't remember when I actually watched all these things for the first time and end up not doing it after all. ):
  5. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

I don't even think it has to be a niche culture. It just has to be one you're passionate about. Gaming isn't niche anymore, as we can all agree, but I'd still qualify anyone super duper into games (like myself) as a gamer nerd butthead.
  6. Fantasy Finale XV

But they look great. Why would you punch that hair?
  7. Movie/TV recommendations

Having not seen Interstellar, I can only guess that it's maybe because Interstellar is so much more hopeful for the future of space travel, while also being completely pessimistic about the future of earth, and maybe that puts him in a different sort of mood. But I don't even have a clue really. There's also the fact that Interstellar is working off of theoretical stuff, rather than the actually-real happening-right-now stuff in Gravity.
  8. anime

Oh yeah Kiki's Delivery Service. I think that's the only one I saw dubbed. I forget everything about it other than little girl on a broomstick, so I guess that speaks more about my impression of it than anything else I could say. And Totoro, I don't know why I forgot that one. I like that one. You know I have a list of all anime movies and series I've watched, you'd think I could just look that up.
  9. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

I think that's the point, though. These people still think it's the other way around.
  10. anime

My first Miyazaki film was definitely Spirited Away, Nausicaa. I forgot about Nausicaa in my original post - I like it, but I don't think it fits in with the rest of the Miyazaki films. I think Mononoke is similarly Not Like The Rest. They're, I dunno, dirtier, grimmer? Maybe I'm wrong. Been a while since I saw 'em. And then Mononoke and then Porco Rosso and then Laputa and then Howl's. I think that's the vague order I watched it in. Howl's was definitely near the end of the list (besides Ponyo), if only because I distinctly remember being happily discovering that there was another movie I could watch and it had a giant walking castle. Anyway I like Miyazaki although I don't go out of my way to watch his stuff. I also have a sweet little Howl's Castle statuette thing. It's awesome. It has tiny little compartments that would hold nothing of value! Oh and I have a Laputa robot musical statue. Since those are my two favorite Miyazaki films.
  11. Games giveaway

): Anyway guys I've got literally three games that I can give away. Somebody claim them! Unless I don't like you. You know who you are. Defender's Quest: Valley of the Forgotten The Cat Lady Long Live the Queen
  12. Is Futurama still running? I honestly don't even know. Also yeah I'm honestly not a big fan of Zoidberg. I feel like in the vast majority of cases the show would've been the same or even better without his presence.
  13. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

PART OF THE PROBLEM PART OF THE PROBLEM I affectionately call all my friends and myself nerds. It's good. Everyone's a nerd about something.
  14. It's definitely 12v12. The competitive TF2 scene has never been important to them.
  15. anime

Howl's Moving Castle is my favorite! Well, maybe Laputa is, not sure. I don't like Mononoke much at all. Spirited Away is all right, though, fun to watch, for sure. Porco Rosso is also near the top. Ponyo I didn't much care for. I think that's all of 'em I've seen.
  16. anime

    Oh yeah you're right.

haha what No that hasn't happened yet but the dude's arm did try to masturbate the dude while standing at the urinal next to another guy.
  18. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

that doesn't make sense you gerb
  19. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

I honestly can't believe anyone likes Sonic.
  20. Default servers are 12v12. Server mods go up to 16v16. 6v6 was the competitive scene. There was also 9v9 highlander competitive scene, one of each class, but I don't think it was ever as big as the 6v6 scene. ...Not that any TF2 competitive scene was ever anything worth watching.
  21. Other podcasts

Yeah fair enough and it's a good point.
  22. Other podcasts

Yeah that's definitely true. It's just that at some point I feel like if I have the power to stop something bad from happening to someone else, then maybe I should exercise that power. And that it's happening to someone else is the key here. The reason this is happening is not because these people woke up one day and said "I'm going to begin thoroughly investigating these people's lives for fun." It is because Serial exists and has driven them to that. Not INTENTIONALLY, of course. With catcalling it is a woman simply walking along POSSIBLY dressed provocatively but most of the times not really and there's a bunch of assholes taking it on themselves to do said catcalling. With this, it is a piece of entertainment opening up someone's personal life to the internet - and by extension, humanity - at large. The power to stop this from happening lies not with those being violated (not to say with catcalling it does, but that is a common belief/response to such complaints), but instead with a separate group investigating something that happened in those people's past. I completely agree that we shouldn't be holding the creators of Serial responsible. It's not their fault. But it's not as black and white as catcalling. In my opinion.
  23. I don't like the implication that TF2's design doesn't reward teamwork or strategy. Twice you said "like TF2 but also makes teamwork matter"! Maybe you didn't mean to do that, I don't know. As with any game, it just depends on what level you're playing at!
