Oh also (different topic, still near end-game)

Either way the combat is shit and I hate this game. malkav: DA2's combats are definitely longer, but DA:I more than makes up for that lack of long combat with utterly boring busy work throughout the entire rest of the non-dialogue-selection gameplay. At least half of the hours I logged in this game are doing stupid shit that I shouldn't have to do because they actually wanted to make a collectathon platformer but were making an RPG instead. Also DA2's combat never feels frustrating, and even if it lasts longer, it doesn't FEEL as long because everything's quick quick quick.
-
Nobody uses tactical combat because it's the literal goddamn worst thing about the game. The normal combat was the second worst!
-
DA2's combat is shit too but at least it's never frustrating. I didn't play it with the attack button, though, so it probably would've been just as bad. DA:I would be an infinitely better game if they just made a usable tactical camera.

I beat the game. Story was good, characters were good, combat was garbage, environments were cool but annoying to navigate, sidequests were largely shit, there was way too much busywork, aaaaaaaaaaaaand... I AM UNHAPPY WITH THE POST CREDITS SCENE this is about said scene oh also some follow-up thoughts on my previous combat complaints I was having SO MUCH TROUBLE living through the hard fights for SO LONG and then all of a sudden out of nowhere I just became this overpowered monster that absolutely wrecked everything. It got to the point where my only deaths were because I was too lazy to use a single potion, even though it was the only potion I would've needed to survive. And it didn't matter cause the rest of my party would clean up anyway. Like I don't understand. That game's combat is seriously fucked.

Idle Thumbs 196: Ode on a Grecian Hat Sale

They bought Team Fortress and made it into Team Fortress 2, a completely different kind of game! They bought Counter-Strike and made it into the longest-lasting, most popular competitive FPS! They bought Narbacular Drop's team and created Portal, incl. original story and character GladOS, arguably the biggest reason Portal is as successful as it is. (Without the video game memes cake is a lie bullshit, I don't think there'd have been a Portal 2.) And then they made Portal 2! They bought Left 4 Dead, and then made it different, and then made Left 4 Dead 2, and are now making Left 4 Dead 3 (according to various leaks)! They bought DotA and made Dota 2! They made Half-Life! Out of those, you could argue (in a way that I'd be willing to listen) that they really didn't do much with CS, Dota, and maybe even L4D. I'd argue that the meta-game stuff they've developed for the first two is a ton of work and shouldn't be ignored just because they didn't create the original games. And I'd argue that for L4D they did a lot a lot of work to change and enhance the original Turtle Rock game. If you read back about the development, you'll see that it changed a lot over time from what Turtle Rock originally had planned. But Portal and TF2 are completely different games from the properties/teams they bought/hired, the first because of presentation, and the second because of... basically all of it. And you forgot Day of Defeat which is the best how dare you. ): ... Okay all that out of the way, they also made fuckin' Ricochet which is the secret best game of all time. ... Okay okay all THAT out of the way, I don't actually disagree with the disappointment and/or resigned acceptance of Valve's seemingly lackluster amount of original output. We do know they're working on Source 2, and they're definitely definitely porting Dota 2 to Source 2 (which will bring with it a hopefully finished official custom map feature), and they're probably definitely working on a L4D3, and they still do SOME stuff for TF2 (although I'm led to believe the team on that is like three people total), aaaaaaaaaand well that's all I got. But I think that's a significant amount of work at this specific point in time. It's just not necessarily work that is immediately appreciable. -

Jokes aren't allowed! This is a serious matter. Very very very serious. -
Yeah last night's game was a whole lot of fun! Especially when Tim just pushed Niv right off that platform... I don't think I've ever had a player just do something like that to me in a game before, so I was just laughing like "what is happening". That was great! Also I love the intrusions. It makes the game so interesting. Well, we play at 8pm CST, which would be... 3am for you (if you're in Sweden as your forum profile says). So I don't think it would work out, unless you're regularly awake that early on a Saturday. ): At some point there was supposed to be a second game going! I don't know what happened to that, though. We've mostly kept to our group PM conversation, so it's possible Reyturner's group is doing the same?

I said in IRC that I could actually see that making some sort of sense, if it didn't focus on the primary Link/Zelda/Ganondorf trifectaorce. It might be interesting to see the typical Zelda story from the perspective of Everyone Else. Of course I have little to no faith in this thing to deliver on anything like that.

Haha, my old boss used to make that joke to me all the time (and we all made it back to him), and it was fine for all of us (or at least it definitely was fine for me). Of course then I got laid off so.

That is what it means. It's probably a little bit of both, so you're not reliant on pure physics to move around (which would be a nightmare). You can see the little robot walking weirdly on stuff, and moving weirdly when grabbing, climbing, etc. Like I imagine physics-wise, it's the usual capsule-character type of movement, or maybe a little more fidelity than that, but graphics-wise, it uses techniques to make it so the feet are always flat on the ground and such. (I realize on re-reading that I didn't directly answer your question but I probably answered enough? Maybe? I hope?)

(I'm going off on a tangent here, leaving the topic of making fun of "young white girl" talk.) All of that's definitely valid! But the complete opposite is true for me. The teachers I found the easiest to relate to were those who were willing to call me out on dumb shit I did with a smile on their face. It made them feel more human, I dunno. Without them, I wouldn't have had any desire to talk to any of my teachers about anything in high school. Probably because that's very much my attitude in life. Self-deprecating humor is my forte. The teachers I hated most were those who would never criticize me, or if they did, would only do it when I was in trouble (which wasn't really all that often, but happened enough anyway when my shirt was untucked or whatever...)

Sometimes I like achievements. Sometimes I dislike achievements. Sometimes I don't really care about their existence. This is all as both a player and a designer! -
Hello everyone I hope you all have a good day!!

Idle Thumbs 196: Ode on a Grecian Hat Sale
Twig replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
Yes? This doesn't really disagree with anything I said. Some of the things me and my small group of friends used to do in WoW later became achievements and suddenly everyone wanted to do them. You're all reading way too much into what I said, though. I said: that achievement would be fun. I did not say: the way you did that achievement sounds fun. -

Why do you need a reward to do something fun? I mean, you didn't find that fun, but I would have. This reads like all those people I used to play WoW with who refused to do anything in the game unless they were guaranteed a chance at sweet loot. Really ruined that game for me for a while. "If I'm not getting anything out of it, what's the point!" I dunno, it's fun? Geez. -

I was typing my post on my phone and the bus showed up so I had to finish in a hurry, but yeah I wanted to say all this, too. Henroid: I suppose partially, but also, I don't think Valve gives a shit about those people. Valve still makes money off of those sales. Also most of the time you're not going to be getting the special Rare or Super Rare items (see below for how chests work!), so those resellers don't actually tend to make money unless they get really lucky. I think the goal is just to make the items more "special". Fewer people are going to have those items for the first few months, and so it makes it much cooler to be the one who DOES have them through opening chests. (YMMV on definitions of "cool" in regards to in-game cosmetic items...) -
Wow that's... special. Like at first I was like "huh this is pretty accurate" and then I was like "huh this is basically exactly what's happening every day right now" and then I was like "wait she's REFUSING PROTECTION???" and welp. Welp. I mean it's TV and she has to get hurt some how so of course she's going to. Welp.
