Man when I first watched Bakemonogatari years ago, I was not who I am today, and the fact that almost every female character, with the exception of Araragi's little sisters, whom you barely meet, is a damsel in distress, I mean I was aware of it, but it didn't bother me. At least Senjogahara has a strong personality (TSUNDERE OH BOY) to sort of give herself agency, and I guess Kanbaru's damsel-hood is a nice twist in that she needs help because she's trying to kill Araragi, buuuut then you get to Sengoku who's just in trouble because of a romance gone wrong and she's a younger girl and when they try to help her she keeps moaning in "pain" except it's clearly sexual and she's wearing a swimsuit. And she's obviously got a big ol' crush on Araragi so that just makes it worse. Welp. Buuuut on the other hand that's kind of the whole theme I guess is they're all like trying to figure out their sexual urges. Senjogahara's maybe learning to deal with a traumatic situation, I guess? (I'm not really sure about her, actually.) Kanbaru wants Araragi out of the way so she can have Senjogahara to herself. Sengoku is... pretty obvious. And I'm pretty sure I remember exactly what Tsubasa's deal is (although I haven't watched it yet) and it's along the same lines. Buuuuuuuut it's still a little awkward. Well, really awkward. She's like 13 or whatever eurgh. This stuff bothered me back then, too, but maybe not nearly as much.

Someone suggest me a nice alcoholic beverage to just have at home. I have a history of enjoying rum and I've been known to try enjoying scotch but man is that stuff strong. I remember one time I had scotch and I was like "wow this is so smooth and delicious" but I can't remember what it was. ): Also a nice white Russian is like my favorite drink so I guess I should get some vodka and Kahlua?

I may have been better off not knowing! I can't say I'm all that emotional about it. Dumb name but lots of things have dumb names. Also Apple so of course it has a dumb name. I'll tell you what I am emotional about: I used a Mac at my previous job and yeah Reyturner's correct. Also developing for/on Apple products is literally the worst. Xcode is fucking atrocious. And then you get mobile web development... People complain about Android's many different specs, but at least Android doesn't enforce weird standards or not let you do extremely simple things or make you call standard stuff with weird names or or or or god i never really hated apple - was mostly just ambivalent - until i started working on apple software like NO NORMAL PERSON WOULD HAVE DONE THIS they are all sadists all of them

In other news I've been rewatching Bakemonogatari. I like this anime! I don't know why Crunchyroll only has it in fucking 480p, though. \:

Also you're ignoring the key difference here, which is that science fiction is the core basis for everything Star Wars does, while Dragon Ball couldn't give less of a shit about its science fiction elements. And that's all on top of the fact that Star Wars actually had believable science fiction (space ships and laser guns, among other things) (also note that believable science fiction is different from believable science) beneath the added-because-it's-cool space wizard layer on top of it all. Star Wars is about a galactic war. Dragon Ball is about dudes punching each other dead.

There doesn't have to be an explanation. It's science fiction because they are science fiction tropes. They work through science because spaceships work through science. Well, of course. Star Wars is terrible science fiction. (It's also terrible in general oh shit.) But it's definitely still infinitely more sci-fi than anything DBZ has to offer. shrugggggggggggggggg

It's actually way less science fiction than Star Wars... In SW you have actual literal space ship fights and you have actual world-threatening Death Star and all kinds of literal science fiction shit. In Dragon Ball Z (up to the end of the Frieza saga), the only world-threatening thing is Frieza being inhumanly capable of summoning a giant death ball and throwing it at planets because... magic. If you move a step beyond Frieza, you have the androids/Cell, which is the most science fiction the series ever gets. And then a step beyond that, you have Buu, who turns people into chocolate and eats them to power up. Not to mention the existence of an afterlife from the very beginning of Z when Piccolo kills Goku. And the whole King Kai being a sort of godly being (though less godly than other Kais introduced later).

Haha I don't know if I would call any of DBZ good science fiction... It's barely even science fiction at all. I mean it's about a bunch of dudes punching each other and shooting magic laser beams at each other while flying around with the power of kid (magic). The only science fiction elements are the capsules and the space travel, and the capsules are basically magic anyway. U:

It felt like they were trying to set up a potential future for the DBZ franchise with the whole gods thing, so it didn't feel unimportant to me! Although whether or not they eventually go there remains up in the air. Plus Bills/Beerus (which is it?!) was just the best.

Oh me too. I'm really bad at People, in general, but in this case I really just wanted to complain a little. Other things were stressing me out that day, too. Either way it all worked out! (Well, we'll see after we actually go on the date...) Yeah for sure, I'm not surprised, I just meant I don't know if religion is actually a factor or not. Buuut who knows. It probably does, at least a little, if you're consistently getting Jewish recommendations.

Yeah I am although awkwardly enough after all my complaints about Tinder, I met this current person on Tinder. I get a lot of Christian suggestions even though I have my thing set to non-religious or whatever it's called. Also when I first started using it I was getting a ton of Indian women but that seems to have stopped for some reason. U: I got one person's number as the week was coming to an end and then she stopped responding to me after I said I don't have a car. Haha. WELP.
