Blow has been doing this kind of thing a lot lately, which just means I have begun ignoring him when it comes to anything other than programming, a topic on which I don't necessarily always agree with him, but at least he's not being a patronizing ass. Well, okay, he is, but the subject matter is a lot less sensitive, so I tolerate it more.
  2. Idle Food - Cooking!

I'm looking to buy a slow cooker and a blender and I know nothing about these kinds of things. For the slow cooker I figure it's not a huge deal since all it is is just making something hot for a long time and then boom. Ideally I'd like to be able to cook a week's worth of food at a time and just consume it... for a week.. I guess I'm looking at this one. But for the blender like I guess I want something that can blend anything like that WILL IT BLEND meme shit I wanna make an iPhone smoothie. This seems good? But it's a hundred bucks and I dunno if I need 72 ounces of blending capacity, since I'll mostly be cooking for myself. Glancing through Amazon reviews for cheaper blenders it seems like the cheaper they are the worse they are at blending. And this makes sense! But I don't know anything.
  3. anime

I've only watched the first half. As much as I love Mushishi, it's something I really have to be in the mood for, I can't force myself to watch it or it ruins things for me. I seem to recall you talking about the story of Ginko, and maybe not liking it when it was explained where he came from and all that? Or maybe that was someone else. Anyway, it's difficult for me to react to something like that, because I honestly just don't care about whether or not his origin is explained, as long as the beat by beat individual episode stories are good. And the vast majority of the time, including when Ginko's backstory is explored, that holds true for me. I definitely tend to let the ambiance wash over me (hence why I say I really have to be in the mood for it), and as such I don't really spend a lot of time analyzing my feelings or analyzing the quality of the series as a whole. It's just something I love to experience. The world and the atmosphere is, for me, unique (even though I've seen that era of Japan thousands of times!) and strange and enjoyable, and I can't help but have positive feelings for all of it. I guess if I had one complaint about what I've seen of Zoku-Shou, it's that it maybe has a little too much... continuity? Like the bug messenger girl came back, and the mushi wine stuff kind of carried across episodes. Maybe the biggest strength of the original series is how every episode, let's use a dumb metaphor and say each episode is a tree, stood firmly on its own soil without having to touch the branches of another. But with Zoku-Shou, they're getting a little twisted up all together and shit and this is why I don't use metaphors. I still don't think I actually really care, though, to be honest. I'm sort of just reaching. LIKE THE TREES ARE REACHING???

Huh I liked Sacred Star of Milos. It wasn't super fantastic, but the action was fun to watch. I guess I'm coming at it from a different angle, though, because I found the story (of both versions) to be fine. Just... fine. Also the second season of Mushishi is great so.
  5. DOTA 2

Wow I hate him even more now. I previously just hated him 'cause he was a shitty little kid and made no attempt at being, you know, not a shitty little kid. But that's fucked up.
  6. Mad Max

But it's the New York City branch, I believe. EDIT: I guess I'm wrong. Just found an article that says the NYC branch was working on a different project after Mad Max had been announced. NEVERMIND.
  7. DOTA 2

No they will lose if the universe has any sense of justice!!!

  9. Mad Max

Man I just went from cautiously optimistic to utterly pessimistic. I forgot about the possibility of escort missions and ugh this game will probably have loads of 'em. ):
  10. anime

I finished The Rolling Girls (which also has a sweet OP I like them colors and the song is super catchy!!!) It's super vibrant and has lots of multicolored rad looking explosions. The characters are good. Individual episodes, and smaller story arcs are good. It's a shame the over-arching plot was super blah. In the end I enjoyed it, and I always like a classic "follow your dreams" type of thing, but the Big Story definitely brought it down. C'est la vie.

I like the ED for Kekkai Sensen. This isn't really related to the current conversation. I just like it (music and video (specifically the silly dancing bits)!) a lot. https://vimeo.com/125364397 (Youtube apparently auto mutes the video anytime someone uploads it.)

Time for a coherent thought, but only one. FOR NOW. One of my favorite things was that, barring the intro exposition which lasted not long at all and was well done, Max spoke what felt like less than 100 words, and it was mostly just caveman grunting. They did a good job of making Mad Max not about Max, which I really love. It was so good!

Dating app, I've mentioned it before: Coffee Meets Bagel. Not sure if it exists in your part of the world! I like it 'cause it's a whole lot less of a "game" than, for example, Tinder. You get one person a day and if you both like each other, you have a week to talk before the app disconnects you. I find dating very stressful and unfun the vast majority of the time, and I had almost just given up for a while before this latest one worked out (so far). Here's hopin'!

Halfway through this first date, she had to leave because her sister's car broke down on the highway. This is after she had to cancel not one, but TWO previously set up dates! (The first time, she had to go to the hospital because she hit her head at work, and the second time because she thought it was on a different day!) Ahhh I have terrible luck. We'll probably be seeing each other again tomorrow, so it's fine, also, we I think get along better than any previous date I've had in the past few months, just man this pattern is getting to be hilariously monotonous!
  18. Feminism

It's not getting a pass, and nobody's liking it. It is being ignored for the sake of enjoying the other, good stuff. Nobody's excusing this shit. They're just saying, "Hey, look, I know this part is fucking shitty shitty shit shit, but look at this other cool stuff maybe, or don't, whatever, I like it, so stop jumping down my throat."
  19. Feminism

I'm pretty sure the person who brought up in that thread Kill la Kill was joking. Like I'd bet money on it. I didn't say problematic content doesn't matter. I said there's nothing wrong with liking something that happens to have problematic content. Otherwise, how can you even like anything?
  20. Feminism

Literally no one has said that. Everyone who likes Kill la Kill and has talked about it in that thread has issues with it and knows those issues exist. There's nothing wrong with liking something despite its flaws. Nobody "likes problematic content" when they, in fact, believe it is problematic. They look or work past said content to see and enjoy the things they do like. If you can't do that, that's fine, but it's not some hypocritical double standard that I happen to love The Witcher series while also being acutely aware of many of the issues from which it suffers.
