  1. In the world of The Witcher, all the pretty sorceresses are pretty because they used magic to make themselves pretty! The dude sorcerors tend to use their magic to make themselves look wise, rather than smokin' hot. But there are some dudes who go the sexy route. (my source is a kotaku lore dump: http://kotaku.com/a-beginner-s-guide-to-the-world-of-the-witcher-1704506152, although I already knew the bit about the ladies making themselves pretty)
  2. I Had A Random Thought...

Hah. I don't know of any reports that says it ends farting entirely, although I guess that makes sense that it should be possible to do, since farts as far as I know are produced entirely by the digestion process. But the author is actually comparing the newer version (1.4) to the original version (1.0) that he'd used before and gave him, as he puts it, "horse-killing farts".
  3. I gave it three stars because I'm undecided on the quality of this thread.
  4. I Had A Random Thought...

I think you'll find both sides relatively frequently. There are definitely plenty who question the nutrition value, but, at least through a cursory google search, I can't find any that provide the actual numbers to back it up. The worst one I've found seems to only hate it because it's not organic. "Blargh how dare they!!" The biggest common negative seems to be taste. And also that it wrecks your Bowel Movements, at least temporarily? A lot of people don't seem to stick with it as long as it is suggested to get your body used to it, though. People who like it say it does get better. This shit is impossible. EDIT: Dug into it a bit more and I guess the original Soylent was, despite marketing material, not actually meant to completely replace all meals? Like for example, they had less sodium than necessary originally, because "most people get more than enough sodium from other foods and Soylent didn’t need to contribute to that", but that's been changed more recently, among other things (such as making the taste more neutral, removing the oil component, and I'm sure other numbers adjustments). (Also that article says the farts are gone! So that's a thing?)
  5. anime

I subscribed to Funimation because I am weak of heart (and so I can stop downloading stuff...) and started watching Claymore on a whim. Man it sure loves to go into exposition mode. Also that boy companion of hers sure is annoying. I should... probably stop watching it. I've heard the manga is better? I think I've heard that, anyway. Maybe I should read that instead. I wish CR's manga selection actually ever improved. Seems like they get like five new things a year and it's never anything big.
  6. Movie/TV recommendations

I saw Ex Machina and it was good. Not as good as Mad Max Fury Road though! That movie was perfect. Anyway that's two good movies in as many weeks. Go me! Time to see Avengers 2 this weekend and be disappointed it's not Mad Max.
  7. The Singularity

    just saw ex machina
  8. I Had A Random Thought...

Looking at that website, none of those recipes contain all-of-the-nutrients-you-need like a serving of Soylent would. You'd have to make multiple things at once, after which you could easily reach over three bucks a full meal. EDIT: Ah, found the "complete meals" tag. It looks like it averages out at a little under three bucks. Though even then, no guarantee you're getting everything you need. Also half of it looks like junk I wouldn't enjoy anyway. I was hoping I'd found something useful to me. Oh well. ): EDIT EDIT: All this aside, reading up on it, it seems like maybe some people don't think it's good. But it's all so sensationally written on either side that it's difficult to actually get an objective viewpoint.
  9. I Had A Random Thought...

$3 a meal is that cheap where I live.
  10. I Had A Random Thought...

I've got a coworker who started Soylent. He consumes it for breakfast and dinner, and eats lunch with us most days. I guess he's happy with it, as he got a second shipment a few days ago. I think he told me it comes out at three bucks a meal which definitely sounds appealing to me. But then I keep buying new kitchen appliances so I can't back down now.
  11. Hey I have the location of a poison cache that I could go back to any time and collect a billion poisons!
  12. The more people complain about collectibles in the awesome Banjo-Kazooie, the more excited I get for Yooka-Laylee. it's gun b gud
  13. The Singularity

And everyone with their robot warriors would quell the rebellion.
  14. Life

Yeah I have lived in Japan before, and worked an internship, so I'm not unfamiliar with what I'm getting into. I've experienced the xenophobia (it's definitely a lot less common in Tokyo, but it's still there, too), I've done the late-night drinking with the boss (they loved it when I actually got one of their goofy puns - "uma umai! uma umai!" man they cracked up), etc. The work hours are definitely the biggest negative, at the moment. Besides the nebulous "oh god do i really want to change my entire life AGAIN" thing... also there's this I love Japan! ): But still, I've only responded to one email so far, so it's not like this is a guaranteed thing. I can always say no later? I'm not looking forward to having to make that decision once and for all. D: also the "easier to find fellow white people to socialize with" is a weird and slightly uncomfortable way to put it haha but yeah also probably true and i have considered that
  15. Recently completed video games

    That's how I played it!
  16. Life

I recently got an email about a potential job in Tokyo, and it doesn't require speaking Japanese, and it's on some mobile app (I haven't yet asked what, but that will be in my next email), and I was initially excited. I've always said I would live in Japan if I found an opportunity that wasn't too awkward. I still don't know what the working hours are like, but it's a New York based company, so at the very least it's more American than most companies over there. But now I'm like do I really actually want this. I mean it's not like I have anything going on for me here. My life is... nothing. So I could pick up and leave anytime. But if I go over there now, I will be completely alone. Not like last time I went, when I had friends from college also in Japan and we met up relatively frequently for exploring Japan. No, I'll be all by myself. I mean, the coworkers will become my friends (unless shit goes really bad!), but but. Hummmmmmm. For the time being, I'll continue this process, and see where it goes. It's not like I've even interviewed yet. I'm terrible at interviewing, so in all likelihood I'll just get rejected. But what if I don't?! ... In other news, the girl I've been talking to lately, a close family member is in hospice now and apparently has days left. So she understandably doesn't want to talk to me right now. I said I understand and I'm sorry and reach out if you want, but it's awkward because I'm still in that area where we don't really know each other that well, so me "being there" doesn't really help. And also I don't even really know how, since, like I said, we're not that close (yet?). I guess I did what I could. And it also fits in with the pattern of every date I've been on in the past few months somehow going bizarrely wrong before the second date. Except it's worse, because this one felt like it's been the best by far. Hopefully this awkward and unfortunate timing doesn't ruin things and she'll get back to me on her own time. I'd already decided I was going to take a break if this one didn't work out, anyway, so there's that. Ugh.
  17. Game of Thrones (TV show)

Twenty seconds is the cut-off, sorry.
  18. Nuts & Bolts was really fantastic, and it's pretty much the only game I regret not finishing before I sold my otherwise worthless 360. ): I'd love for the BK remasters to be put on PC but we all know that'll never happen. ):
  19. anime

To be completely real and honest, the only thing I ever got out of Evangelion was a huge waste of my time. I honestly don't get it at all. It's so far beyond my understanding. I hated it. A lot. I can't even say why I hated it, except that I remember that I was bored the entire time and nothing meaningful ever seemed to happen except that one time that dude did a thing that cemented in my mind that the movie wasn't going to redeem the series.
  20. Well scientists use it! Also the word isn't only used for the unit of measurement. Blame the English language being shitty for that one, not America! Also I have to admit I'm biased re date format since I am a programmer but also it just makes more sense to me in general. Either date first year last our year first date last. Mixing up the order makes no goddamn sense!
  21. As an American, nothing he said was untrue, so, it's hard to be angry. Well I am angry at America for, you know, continuing to be the same America. also the only correct date format is yyyy-mm-dd
  22. Yeah I wanted to say this, too, but I was on my phone at the time. It's not just a game about running around collecting things, although that is of course the core of the game. But it's not arbitrary. There's purpose to it. Collecting things leads you places, and going to places leads to collecting things. Also plenty of the stars in SM64 are out in the open.
