  1. Metro 2033?

Thank God it was so cheap when I bought it. This game is horrible! And I am not sarcastic in the slightest. I'm currently at chapter 4 - "The War" - and need to sneak through a battlefield where commies and fascists seem to shoot at each other 24h a day (which reminds me of the chapter with the bridge in The Good, The Bad and The Ugly - except that the joy the film brought you has been replaced with utter frustration ). I guess there is a fixed pattern you have to strictly follow to succeed, which I failed to discover several times in a row. I then decided to try the "stop worrying and love the gun" route which ended in more frustration, as it is absolutely futile to get past more than dozen men, who you can barely see in the dark, but who can see you like you've got some christmas lighting blinking on your jacket. I then stopped playing and had another try an hour ago. This time the level starts with everybody already alarmed and prepared to pummel me with all their unbeatable precision a computation can deliver. toblix, I ask you to help me falling in love with this game, like you did. What is the secret? Fate? Masochism? Vodka?
  2. Metro 2033?

I've bought it on steam yesterday when it was on sale for only 7.50 EUR (~6.25 GBP) and already played it for around three hours. I'm not liking it much so far, though. The visual presentation of the metro environments is neat (exteriors not so much). And it's running at a decent framerate thanks to a muscly GTX 470. The ability to freely mix spoken and subtitle languages is fantastic. What's annoying are the constant interruptions (every two to ten minutes a loading screen) and broken stealth sections once again (if someone sees a corpse and becomes alert, everyone will instantly know where you are and will be able to spot you even in previously safe spots).
  3. 6plinter Cell

Chaos Theory is the zenith of the series, indeed. I skipped Double Agent due a bad port for the pc and mediocre reviews. I probably would have bought Conviction for a reduced price, if it were not for the annoying copy protection which demands a permanent internet connection and halts the game whenever connection to the Ubisoft server is lost. With this in mind, I won't bother with this next game, as long as there is no confirmation of a lack of this protection system.

Threat of terror in germany: security forces attentive! Extra 3 carry out the terror test (It's in german, but the images speak for themselves)
  5. WTF is Telltale's new game?

    Poker Night, I'm comin'!
  6. Call of Duty: Black Ops

Oh, the absurdity! Any illusion destroyed by just doing nothing. They really should abandon those lukewarm attempts at creating a compelling singleplayer experience and just concentrate on the multiplayer (with the MP beeing the only reason why it's bought anyway). Same for Bad Company 2. I tried the SP and it was shit right from the beginning: 4Vn7zm6A8OY Stealth mission with motor boats? The whole intro is one long Shoot the hinges! moment.
  7. He seems to have a decent taste when it comes to watching films. But his own creations (I've watched House of the Dead and Alone in the Dark) are just bad and utterly boring. Ed Wood's movies may be bad aswell, but they are also entertaining in its laughableness. Boll's movies aren't.
  8. I might try the demo if there is going to be one. The C64 was part of my youth and introduced me to computer games.
  9. L.A. Noire

I've got the Home Premium Edition, so no XP mode. And I hesitate messing with the Virtual stuff in general, as - even though I love Grim - it would be too much of a hassle to go through for a single game. I replayed the game several times already and rather wait for some compatibility update/remake.
  10. L.A. Noire

Then I hope for you, that you're not running Windows 7 64-bit. I wasted hours to fix the glitches and crashes, but nothing helped. I capitulated eventually and won't touch this game it its current state again. I blame the engine programmers at LucasArts. This game was glitchy from the get-go. Just remember the elevator/forklift scene, which became unsolvable when your processor was too potent as an example. LucasArts needs to remake this game pronto (and don't forget about decent controls this time!)! [/offtopic]
  11. L.A. Noire

I was going to say that facial expressions look rather excellent and that I am still looking forward to this game. But then I checked the Official Website and realized that a PC version hasn't been announced. If Rockstar don't bother with the Windows Platform, I don't bother with their games. (I am still waiting for Red Dead Redemption for the PC as well )
  12. About the stereo/5.1 issue: As far as my experience goes, faking multichannel surround sound via stereo speakers doesn't work well, if at all. I guess the main reason is the discrete frontal positioning of the speakers. You just can't trick your hearing into perceiving sounds - actually coming from the front - like coming from the opposite direction. With decent stereo headphones on the other hand it works like a charm. The Creative CMSS3D and the Dolby Headphone solution seem equally effective.
  13. I am disappoint with the internet... Sprite spite!

Yesterday I saw the sprites for the first time, featured in a news on . I liked what I saw and decided to choose the megamanesque Indiana Jones as my new Steam avatar. I named him "Mega Jones" (witty), wrote a one-liner into my profile which goes "We named the dog 'Mega'" (gettit? Imsocleverandfunny) and also mentioned the creator's name next to the image out of respect (maybe too much respect???). I was happy. And today I read your thread and must realize that my idea is the result of promotional gleichschaltung, that my taste is more mainstream than I could have ever imagined (in my worst nightmares). My happiness? Gone...
  14. I am Iron Man (Is there a doctor in the house?)

If you feel uncomfortable with the prescription, you should take only two tablets a day till your next appointment. In any case it's less dangerous to take less of it than too much. Also, normal ferric-values of an adult are 7 to 29 µmol/l according to a german medical site.

Haha, this is cracking me up! It's the striking realism of the situation which makes it so funny. The surprise, the hectic attemps to extinguish the fire and the realisation that the only thing you can do is watch your house burning to the ground.
  16. Obligatory comical YouTube thread

My head starts hurting just by watching this. But it's open to debate if it's a sign of manliness to stop a wooden ball with your face, or one of idiocy.

Here you get recommendations for gaming hardware combinations depending on the intended investment. It's a german site and the prices are in EUR. But this shouldn't be much of a problem. And you can always fall back on Google Translator™.

  21. Maniac Mansion 3D

Although having fond memories of playing Maniac Mansion on my C64 as a child, I was never able to beat it until years later (and a walkthrough). And in retrospect it's not a particulary fun game to play. Just like gerbil said, it's flawed just like Zack McKracken (a game I also have fond memories of playing as a kid, but never beat until years later... and a walkthrough). The only reason for replaying (which I did a year ago or so if I recall correctly) is nostalgia. And to be fair: Meteor Mess 3D really looks like a big waste of time. The only reason for a 3D version would be to considerably improve the visuals which is not the case here apparently. Maniac Mansion Deluxe is all I really need when nostalgia grabs me.
  22. Mafia II

It's rather frustrating that 99,9% (all except some hardcore military sims) of the countless FPS and TPS share the lame bullet-counter approach with complete disregard of clips. And what's even more frustrating is the fact, that many games even screw up on the reload mechanic itself. Often enough there is only one static animation sequence for a reload and so it happens that you rack the slide every time no matter what. And another classic: double-barrelled guns with always both barrels beeing reloaded. About the game: I don't own the game yet. Same here!
  23. Obligatory comical YouTube thread

Okay, my bad. But if Wipeout is a "100% copy" of this one japanese show, how is Wipeout different from Takeshi? Because in my view it looks basically like Takeshi.
  24. Obligatory comical YouTube thread

The japanese show was named Takeshi's Castle (named after film director Takeshi Kitano) and I'm hearing about this fatality for the first time. My quick online investigation was fruitless. Cover-up? *dramatic music*
