I just started with spoiler tags cause I didn't want to pick through it later if I wrote something spoilerish.

  5. E3: The Keynotes

To be fair most of those people aren't really journalists, they run shitty little blogs and hot youtube videos. They let pretty much anybody in now, it's almost reverted back to what it was before.
  6. Dragon Age

You do if you're a man!
  7. Dragon Age

Yeah you really have to work to get the "good" ending out of the Landsmeet. One thing I found was that characters actually change between different branches of choices, not due to your choices, but because Bioware decides that it'd be more interesting if they had ulterior motives. As to the deep roads problem, I think that everyone has their own individual breaking point with this game. The pacing is just structured in a way that you aren't properly rewarded with a complete quest often enough. For example,
  8. I would totally listen to a podcast about Dwarf Fortress stories. I think Rabbit from GWJ touches on it from time to time, but this game has a depth I am interested by and have no interest in participating in.

Try changing your download center. I forget exactly how, but it's in the settings window. There are plenty of content servers that should be reasonably close.
  10. Scott Pilgrim [video game]

Anamanaguchi is part of the PAX soundtrack right?
  11. Dragon Age

Anybody that's been holding out, there should be a Steam deal on Sunday for Dragon Age. They uploaded all the banner adds to their CDN with names like ...monday...jpg. I'm planning on picking up Awakenings if it's also on sale.
  12. Scott Pilgrim [video game]

That's a lot to assume from one sentence.
  13. Portal 2

I'm not trying to start a flamewar, just stating my experience with it. I haven't tried to matchmake on PSN since GTA IV. I'm sure there are individual games that have done it better, but from what I've seen in the patch notes there doesn't seem to be anything on the network that's updated to enhance the usability on the network level. We're not even sure that Steam friends will be ported over to PS3, but if it is that'd be great news.
  14. Scott Pilgrim [video game]

It's actually a good experience to be pissed off at something you're reading once and a while.
  15. Portal 2

It's a nightmare from a user experience point of view. I've actually successfully coordinated more games using Wii friend codes than I have using PSN invitations. Which is not a lot, either way, and is really just my experience. The problem is that developers are left doing the majority of the work to get those follow/join/invite systems working on PS3, and many do it half-assed requiring players already in game to leave just to receive an invitation to join a friend. It's not about elitism. If you're going to compare Steam's features directly to PSN's it's a clear disparity.
  16. http://twitter.com/ebertchicago/status/16424060832 God damn it.
  17. Portal 2

'cause PSN doesn't really provide the features you listed. Friends do exist, but their implementation is so unbelievably sloppy, it's almost not worth mentioning. I'll concede achievements though, trophies do exist. A lot of people seem to think that the Steam marketplace will be on PS3.
  18. Portal 2

Don't confuse Steam with Steamworks. The Steam marketplace is not going to be on PS3, just features of the Steamworks API and possibly crossplatform chat.Wolpaw was asked, but since he said to ask Doug Lombardi. Considering Doug is the business guy at Valve, it's an indication that the feature set is largely going to be determined by business rather than technological constraints. He did say that it was mostly to do with patching, and brought up TF2's lifecycle as a reference for what they would be able to do on the PS3. XBOX certification can be a mess.
  19. Portal 2

An interview with Erik Wolpaw was posted on Joystiq http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/16/video-interview-portal-2s-erik-wolpaw/
  20. E3: The Keynotes

To be fair, Phoenix Wright is most definitely going to point at you in 3D eventually. Maybe they're saving it for TGS.
  21. Portal 2

Valve has said in the past they were hiring PS3 developers, because if they were going to develop for that environment, they weren't likely to let a 3rd party port it again. However, around the time that Steam for Mac was launched, Gabe was on a podcast called The Conversation and PS3 came up. He seemed fairly dismissive, and not in the cagey way that many developers do, or in the Jaffe out-right-lie kind of way. It sounded like they hadn't ruled out PS3, but it wasn't their priority and it sort of sounded like they were waiting for Sony to pick up the ball. To me, this boils down to "SURPRISE! PS3 has delayed the release of Portal 2". And that's just sad.
  22. Portal 2

Conspiracy theory time. Based on the timing, it seems like Valve was convinced (by Sony or EA) to properly port the game to PS3. PS3 is a bitch and a half to develop for, but Sony might have tossed Valve a few consultants to get what they want out of the platform. I believe that this was a recent occurrence, that lead to the release date extension, and cancellation of Valve's event. Considering how underwhelming this news is to the general public, to me is and indicator that it happened recently. Also, IGN's direct feed videos are a bit better than the one above: Bq2mZoKkqMw mGlyQmmvj0w
  23. E3: The Keynotes

Steamworks is not Steam. Also, this is the worst surprise ever.
  24. E3: The Keynotes

Yeah it would definitely feel embarrassing saying "XBOX _____" all the time. That's why naming it would be so much better.I believe we all want to end up in this brave new world: BmNeXu5xIDY
  25. E3: The Keynotes

If Kinect doesn't let you nickname your xbox for voice commands, a great crime will have been committed against the public. Star Trek has already paved the way for casual voice commands to "computer". Also, "Natal" was a bad name. If people stopped calling the Wii "revolution", what hope do you have with something that sounds like a pregnant ladies vitamins?
