  1. Sam & Max: The Devil's Playhouse

if you're really really stuck, I'd suggest uhs-hints. Someone linked them on the forums a while ago, and I think they do a pretty good job at modularizing the spoilers so you don't ruin the game.
  2. Starcraft 2

Reminder that there's a thread in the multiplayer forum. Put your player info in this shared doc: Thumbs.db A few North American's are getting together on Wednesday nights for Thumb v Thumb, matches. Where players play 1v1 while others spectate rotating in. Takes a bit of the stress off watching others play and seeing their mistakes.
  3. Starcraft II

yeah, let's make it next Wednesday. (the 8th of sept)
  4. Sam & Max: The Devil's Playhouse

Obviously I was doing it "wrong", because it's a game with a solution and I didn't get it immediately. But your logic seems to imply that there aren't levels of quality in game design."Every time you did something wrong Max or Sam said something new that got you thinking more in the right direction". Not really, it didn't take long before the characters ran out of unique dialog and canned animations. I don't think it was as bad as the end of Sammun-Mak, but it had it's issues. The piano transitions were a bit of an exhaustive experience.
  5. Sam & Max: The Devil's Playhouse

I misread that, and now I'm sad that there isn't a Joss Whedon adventure game. Firefly would be cool if it was done like Mass Effect, without combat.
  6. Rock Band 3

Guess it's been a while since I payed attention to that, I remember they used to be made in Mexico when I was in high school. I'm going to call Phish - "Llama" as the sleeper hit in this entire lineup. Phish songs are just so much fun to play on any instrument, and if you could get a bunch of people playing pro instruments for that it'd be epic. But out of the rest of the songs, the ones I like aren't that interesting to play. I suppose that's why I never got into rockband in the first place though. I'm no fan of the keymashing Dragon Force trend in Guitar Hero, I still want a challenge and not be stuck playing really boring rhythm guitar because the vocals are popular.
  7. Rock Band 3

I was super psyched to hook up real guitar. I like Chris have no need for another guitar, let alone a Mexican Squire Strat, but I was prepared to buy it without a question. Then I saw the set list, and my heart fell. There's like 2 songs that i'm mildly interested in playing. Unless they spend the time retracking all their DLC with pro-guitar, I may have to take a pass on this game for a while.
  8. Starcraft II

hmm, could go either way. I'd say gaming since that thread seems to be all over the place.
  9. The real question is that if Jake is so integrated with cyborg technology, how far gone will Steve be by 2019? Will there be nothing left but a Gaynor bot?
  10. WTF is Telltale's new game?

I find the recent comments by Robin Walker in PC Gamer regarding the Sam & Max hat interesting. Apparently they wanted to see community reaction to mixing IPs. Was it a pilot to seeing if Valve would be called sellouts for letting TellTale use their IP?

Thinking of doing another Thumb v Thumb this week. Wednesday at 8:30pm EST work for NA players?
  14. Damn you Jake, you are Lord of the Jokes and you will not share them. This podcast made me so happy, then sad that there would be no more.

nah that's how you play FFA. Maybe we should spend more time on 1v1s or 2v2s, but considering we didn't have enough time for a full rotation I thought we might as well go for the 3 player FFA at the end. I also made my army to counter yours, then for some reason decided to attack Jennoa. If i had my full complement of templars and chargelots attacking you it'd have been alright. Then again, if I hadn't had gone for Jennoa at that time, he'd have had a few void rays that would have been a problem for me later on in the game anyways. In general from what I saw in your play, I think you just need to incorporate an earlier push in your game, and possibly an expand if you come out ahead. You were spending your money decently, but even on Steppes of War you went all the way to Tier-3 before attacking your opponent. Terran's have the most versatile base, as they can shift their tech almost instantly to adapt to their opponent, so you shouldn't be playing in a black box then going for an all-in. Also you should have put more value in attacking harvesters. You had a great drop on his mineral line, but for some reason focused down a pylon and barely got any probe kills. Only go for pylons if they're fueling some important tech or solo-powering a lot of buildings. In terms of general Terran build strategies: TvZ: open up with a fast gas and reactor to reaper rush, transition to marauders if he goes roaches TvP: probe him with marine marauders very early on. TvT: getting a hellion out fast can be devestating if you push early enough with whatever marines you've built. Transition into tanks and vikings, as whoever can have the most of both will gradually win the game. When all else fails, just build a blob of Marines Marauders and Medivacs.

What I was saying about SC2 was that you don't have to play it on a difficulty that's too easy for you. Whereas relic games lack a setting that counter's cheap tactics.

Yeah, I do like the quarter-down style format I wish we had time to do it properly. For future reference, it seems like canceling our first game put us all locked in an "in-game" state which prevented us from starting the first FFA for so long. I think you have the basics down Jennoa, you just need to tweak your macro a bit. If you're over 500 minerals, and you don't think you can safely expand, drop down more unit producing structures and go nuts. Most new players turn every push into an "all-in" because they don't have enough buildings to replenish their army when they die. When you push out, set your rally point somewhere near the front of your base and start building to replace that force. It's sort of like going to the casino with the expectation that you will lose the set amount of money you go in to play with. Good macro will give you the confidence to make more pushes, and when you come out on top you turn that army replacement into re-enforcements for an even more aggressive push. The other major thing missing I'd say is keeping up with the scouting. It's something we all kinda failed at last night, but without sending in a scout once and a while you become fearful of your opponent thinking they've got some crazy force, instead of capitalizing on their weaknesses.

I'm going to start forming a party for a FFA, or last man standing series. BNET was down earlier tonight, but it looks fine now.
  20. Starcraft 2

DOWII has a number of strategies that absolutely trivialize the game. Some due to itemization, others tied to core abilites like the jet pack jump or constant retreating. Basically anybody paying just a little attention could dominate the game.
  21. Starcraft II

They might remove the lock for custom games, but I think they legitimately coded themselves into a corner by adopting the region architecture early on in development. Poo's idea of a series of 1v1s is good, but we'll see how many people show up. Right now it looks like it may only be 3 of us.
  22. Chiptunes were mentioned briefly in the Scott Pilgrim thread, and a few way back about the Blip festival. The guys that shot the first season of the Penny-Arcade reality show have a documentary out about them now. http://www.penny-arcade.com/patv/reformat-the-planet/ I'm of two minds about the whole thing because the music is fine in small doses or certain contexts, but it's all very embarrassing as well.
  23. Starcraft II

If one of the Steam community moderators could create an event for Aug 25th 8pm EST to remind people of tommorow's North American FFA that'd be great.
