Having not played much past the few episodes of Season 1, and none of Season 2 at all, I was infinitely confused by the ending of Season 3. Still I think I understand this time loop more than Lost's. I really appreciate that it didn't end in a bunch of repetitive dialogue and animations this time. I think if you played through the season as a whole the tempo would be perfect.

Idle News Podblast - 03/09/09: Countdown to Tears
Forbin replied to Chris's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
I have heard that Warren Spector guaranteed tears will be delivered in Epic Mickey. Shall we restart the countdown? -
It's definitely a Role-playing game, it's not much of a Roll-playing game. The fact is you customize a character, decide how they interact with people, have a diverse way of playing the game, and finishing the game. And by stripping out a lot of the dice rolling and stat sheet elements, they were able to create a diverse yet well produced experience that I felt more personally invested in than pretty much any other RPG I've played in years. I cared more about my Sheppard in ME2 than I did about my Grey Warden in DA:O, which to me is a success.

I was saying a procedural narrative component would have provided an outlet for comedy that could have left character dialogue and itemization free from it's burden.

yeah i was going to post, but the forums were on fire last night. I couldn't make it.

Marketing experiments aside, I think it was cool of him to do it so that people could spend as much time as they wanted at the station. That's very much the spirit of PAX.

Some stats posted on IGN from BioWare's data mining: http://pc.ign.com/articles/111/1118657p1.html One interesting thing that came out was that PC players were more likely to complete the Miranda loyalty mission, and Xbox players were more likely to complete the Grunt loyalty mission. Is that a representation of the different population's personalities, or more the privacy factor of playing on the PC? I mean if you were inclined to get in on some Miranda sexy time action by the awkward all-male mocap team, you may want some privacy.

So Black Ops is pretty much a bunch of Counter-strike server mods. I guarantee some baby journalist praises it's "innovation".

some of the later puzzles at the end of the kotaku video were interesting. You stop just mashing through the maze and have to use some logic on where to start. I like it. If he makes a solid sunset I'm sold.

Yeah I understand that sentiment, I wish more shooters were old-school (read: PC centric). But if anybody paying attention should know that this new Duke will not be that. It'll be old, in the fact that the engine is old as hell, and will lack technological advancements without a major code overhaul, but from the Pitchford pitches it sounds like they're heading towards generic console shooter. And if they were going to go in that direction, they would have been better off going whole hog.
-
Like I said, Duke wasn't really popular as long as goldeneye, the PC gaming community moved on after a couple years.
-
If the game were any good I'd be inclined to agree, but Duke 4ever looks like a steaming piece of shit.I'm not saying that anybody that played the game years after it's release are incapable of appreciating it, but they're certainly romanticizing the experience. There's no way they would have played through it otherwise, 'cause it doesn't really hold up. Games like Starcraft and Street Fighter are recognized as balanced games that hold up beyond their presentation, and have a lot more to call back to than just pure nostalgia.
-
Maybe that's a bit confusing, but Goldeneye was played for years after it's release. Especially since the game cube was such a flop. People in my brothers generation played goldeneye when the PC crowd was already deep into Counter-strike.I know nobody follows age guidelines, but if you were 12 when Duke was popular, you would be 26 or older now. So why are these 20-year olds excited about a game they probably never played?

North Americans: Thumb v Thumb is on Wednesday September 8th, 8:30 Eastern. Feel free to invite your friends.

Enjoy your dissapointment. But if you were truly around for Duke 3D and are still hyped up for it, you're one hell of an optimist. Most people I see excited though were practically in diapers when the game came out though, and I just think it's a bunch of poser bullshit.
-
The hype for this game is so artificial it drives me nuts. Half these baby journalists raving about it being at PAX grew up on Goldeneye and Halo, so I don't know why they give a shit about Duke. And anybody old enough to have played the originals knows this game is way past it's prime. Fuck it, fuck it all to hell.

First time I played that mission I failed, then my friend told me I was an idiot for not killing the nydus worms when they spawn. I reloaded the last auto-save point and sent my forces out to take care of the 15+ nydus worms constantly spewing forces at me, and I still beat it no problem. I imagine if you stay on top of them with battlecruisers from the start of the map it'd be an even bigger cake-walk.

The procedural narration is simultaneously cool and retarded. "The kid... The kid... The kid...". It highlights the weakest point of writing for video games, and the joke wears thin quickly. In that short Giant Bomb video, I've already seen enough. Interesting concept, I wish it had been done on a game like Deathspank so the writers could focus more on making their jokes in a more traditional way, rather than trying to ram it into every possible flavour text.

Who wrote that copy?

I just can't approve of a cat woman that reminds me of Halle Berry's disaster.
