It just further convinces me that Dota could support a co-op experience pretty well, if they script the bosses more appropriately to the style of gameplay, and maybe change up the items available for the mode, or make some hero-type-exclusive items to support a more dynamic thing and and or and or or and.The early days of WC3 maps included a lot of this and I've always been sad that it was forgotten. That and the arena maps need to make a comeback in Dota 2.

I agree exactly. Perhaps with the exception of SC2 (although maybe not) I view e-sports in a similar way as "real" sports, such as tennis, squash, boxing, etc. There's very little strategy in those games... most of it is down to perfecting physical skills, and knowing which shots to make when, and understanding your opponents strengths and weaknesses.
is what you described not strategy?

Outside of the potential to disarm, I really look at it as a nerf. Last Word used to absolutely shut down team fight heroes now he's got a single target nuke/silence/disarm but unless it disarms he'll just be beat to death anyway. Nortrom really exists in a weird space; a carry that can't carry and a support that can't control enemies past laning.

6.76 changes are out. http://www.playdota.com/changelogs/6.76b
I really don't like the Silencer change, Last Word was easily his most useful ability, this new nuke sounds awful. On the other hand, I want to kiss Icefrog for the Death Prophet buff.

Jakiro has always been rad except for his stun. Now that that's fixed he's a top choice for me.
-
I'm so happy with these Jakiro changes. I can finally pick him without feeling bad for the rest of my team.
-
I don't actually play support! I like my solo lanes.
-
Wards are cheaper and assists are worth more, playing support won't be such a slog anymore.
-
I love the Lycan nerf. No more jungling for him.
-
Yeah it means he gains 4 agility per level, up from 2. I'm fairly certain only Pugna has a stat gain that high (Intelligence). It should be in the Dota 2 client with next week's update. I'm actually excited about this captain's mode change
"* Captain's Mode first ban phase now has 2 bans instead of 3
* Captain's Mode second ban phase now has 3 bans instead of 2"
This is really going to change the heroes you see in pro games. hype hype hype
edit: i can't stop staring at this changelog. the lycan nerf is so tasty.

6.75 changelog! http://www.playdota....changelogs/6.75
Phantom Lancer gets 4 Agi gain! Death Prophet gets an extra point of armor! Shadow Fiend mini-ult! No more Psi Blades Illusion splash? I hate you Icefrog.
I do like that Treant Protector is for the first time not getting nerfed. And Pit Lord's new passive is crazy. Let's hope this week's patch includes all the missing WC3 content or at the very least my one true love, Legion Commander.

I'm always in a game when I get invited to a Thumbs group, I'm missing out.

All I'm saying is for the cost you don't get much out of S&Y, especially for an item that quickly loses it's effectiveness.
-
I see what you're saying but even in that situation saving up for the Manta Style is a better option. Riki has Blink Strike and a guaranteed slow with a longer duration in Smoke Screen combined with the Yasha speed only a blink can outrun you. It's pretty much the same situation with every hero that would build it.
Edit: More particularly I see it a lot on Bounty Hunter, Ursa, Phantom Lancer, and Razor. Halberd and Manta do so much more.
-
No way! Heaven's Halberd and Manta Style are similar price with far superior benefit. I'd go as far to say if you're going to buy Sange & Yasha to save up for an Eye of Skadi instead.
-
6.75 should be coming soon, quite possibly next week! Hopefully Sange & Yasha gets a big change because that item is terrible but I feel too douchey to actually tell people not to buy it.
I have spent like an hour today ogling the Axe statue. http://www.wetanz.com/axe/There's no amount of money I wouldn't pay for Death Prophet and Lanaya.

Meepo is a high skill cap hero with a high floor. Basically, don't play Meepo. Watch this guy do it instead. http://www.own3d.tv/MeepoDotA/video/813168

A new wave of invites have gone out. I'm trying to teach a few friends that have no exposure to dota whatsoever.

SPvP is so much fun! I've really been dominating with my ranger. Every time I go outside of PvE I like PvE a little bit less.

Well the finals did have something the rest of the tournament didn't; no Morphling, no Anti-Mage, and constant Dark Seer and Naga picks. iG really surprised Na'Vi with the Disruptor pick as well and he put so much work. The Nyx pick was a bad pick played particularly poorly, even a friend who has never played Dota recognized how useless Nyx was.
And the tournament ended on a triple Ravage!
-
The International was an incredible tournament that only got better as the days went on. Was on TS with a few friends during the finals, I've never been so hype for e-sports. iG really beat Na'Vi in the draft.

I'm on Ehmry Bay and there's absolutely no way we can do anything to move Stormbluff Isle in WvW. It really makes WvW an unbearable experience.

There are few heroes that aren't good and that list consists of Sniper and Alchemist.

The main event starts tomorrow, 8 teams on the chopping block. I'll go ahead and say goodbye to mTw, mouz, M5, and Darer. Going intot this I was really expecting something big out of mTw but they've not impressed on any level and if I recall correctly CLG wiped the floor with mTw in The Defense 2. It's just too bad Na'vi and Zenith don't have easy paths to the winner's bracket.
Also some interesting numbers from the Dota blog.
In all, 115 games were played with over 275,000 viewers. The most spectated game was CLG vs M5 with 69,659 viewers. The average game length was 34 minutes. The shortest game was IG vs Na’Vi which clocked in at 16:11. The longest game, LGD vs M5, went 70:58 minutes. In total there were over 65 hours of Dota 2 played in the preliminary round.
What happened during these games? Overall, there were 4,655 kills with 13.2 million gold and 15.2 million XP earned. The average first blood time was 3 minutes with the longest wait for first blood being in the LGD vs Zenith game with a wait of 11.3 minutes. There were 13 first bloods before the horn.
For heroes, the most popular pick was Venomancer with 64 picks. The most lethal pick was Tiny with 9.4 average kills in 10 games. The most helpful and most unfortunate was Wisp with 13 average assists and 6.7 average deaths in 11 games. Morphling had the most kills with 407 total kills in 54 games.
For Pennants, Na’Vi leads the pack followed by Mouz and Zenith. Amazingly, #1 seeded LGD is down in the number five spot
I'm really surprised that many people bought mouz. I know SingSing's stream is popular but that popular is shocking to me. They performed about as well as you could expect for a team that wasn't invited and didn't qualify. Also Black is the only player that didn't land in the top 10 average death per game.

Some were that, others had you level and buy your own gear. There was a lot of experimentation going on. Perhaps my favorite were the maps that would make two random players fight while everyone else spectated. I doubt these maps were as rad as I remember; there must be some reason Tower Defense and DoTA left them behind. I'd still like the chance to get another crack at them in Dota 2.
talk about a nostalgia rush!
