The hell is up with yordles? teemo is like the bane of my existence.

I just like jungle heroes so I would never play axe that way. could imagine that a lot of solo lane heroes could benefit from the extra protection, though.

Interestingly enough, blocks are still calculated pseudo randomly, meaning that a single stout really only goes about 53% of the time. The double stout plus 3 tangos still seems valid. Arguable if just getting more trees isnt the best option anyway.

Apologies, then.

Interesting. I hope nobody is treating this discussion as a literal "which is better" between the two games, because I'm fairly certain it's not. Would anyone agree that Dota Lords are simply much more "restrained" than LoL Lords? I mean I've played Riven, and the reason I think your fighting game character comparison stands is because, in that short clip you provided, she doesnt even hit level 6 until her double kill, and then proceeds to cast both parts of her ult twice. It's definitely the LOMA equiv. of spamming hadouken. Hell, the fact that at one point in the video she has EIGHT buffs/debuffs on her simultaneously is proof enough that in League, there's just a lot more shit going on. There are very few Dota heroes that are as mobile as Riven so early on, and Twig probably isn't looking at crazy dps like that as an "interesting" hero. For a lot of Dota lords, managing mana and cooldown are essential to their play, and very few will allow that sort of liberal usage of abilities, even late into the game. EDIT: Again, neither is particularly better than the other.

With that one offhanded reference to Purge I find exigence for bringing up this absolutely hilarious dota game

Oh man!!! Some absolutely bonkers metanarrative just happened in Game 1.

Man, I have a quality chatlog for you guys when Game 1 ends (which it will)

I find myself describing more things as "lords" or "lording" now.

The Idle Thumbs Lords Management Consortium - Dota 2, LoL, other Lords Managers unite
Coods replied to Sean's topic in Multiplayer Networking
This might be the first time I will ever pay for anything in a freemium game: -
gah! I forgot this existed and am super behind!

Reviving this just to see if any thumbs have a really good, conversational style podcast about music. A lot of the ones I've found are radio sponsored and often just have music breaks and reviews, but I'd wonder if there were any podcasts centered around longer, opinionated discussions about new albums or artists in general. So yeah, essentially Idle Ears, if it exists.

This is devilish.

Our galaxy is an exact replica of the 1984 fictional world map.

It might seem a little insulting, but I think that even though League is the most "casual", League players still believe they are playing a game focused on skill, challenge and competition. Which is completely true, of course. It's just my answer for why Dominion isn't particularly popular, and why watching pro games is still compelling.

The funny thing is that I wasn't a Dota player, I was a WC3 player. I would always resent Dota because it was the only thing anybody would ever play on custom, and I couldn't play Wintermaul or chaos kingdom or some shit. I eventually gave in and played it, but I was never particularly good at dota until HoN came out.

Yeah! Chris and Sean really need to stop with the flirting (like the ) and just profess their undying love for each other. It's no coincidence that Sean is obsessed with Obama and Chris does a killer Obama impression. You guys aren't fooling anybody.

woah.

Well, I've uploaded the two princes story on Youtube, with the actual song backing Chris Remo. Uh, here you go.

Yeah, this isn't gonna end well.

Although to be fair, all four of these women have incredibly bland and forgettable uninteresting designs. http://artgerm.deviantart.com/art/DotA2-Heroines-273884513

Yeah I guess that's kind of bullshit on my part. I think what I mean is that at least all the splash art for Dota looks like it was done by the same person, under some sort of established style guide. The cellshaded quality of LoL's champion models also accentuate how out of place they all look. EDIT: What Ben said.

Really liked reading your thoughts Corelli, but I do have things to say about the hero design: (some of this might go into an lords directed email later but whatever) This ends up being the biggest deciding factor in LoMas for me, particularly in the case of LoL. First, the meta stuff. League does this thing where you can attribute points and money outside of a game into boosts and abilities that help you inside the game, which I find extremely strange. Flash (the LoL equiv. of a blinkdagger) and Heal are spells that anybody playing any hero can use. Switching between roles also means switching out your jungling build for a top lane build. It's a quality unique to LoL that I absolutely do not care for whatsoever, simply because I don't think it adds anything substantial to the game other than to differentiate it from Dota I guess. Nothing about it seems skillful and some of it even feels insignificant, like having slightly more (like 4.5) ability power at max level, in a game where AP tends to reach the hundreds. In terms of sheer numbers, League has a lot of extremely interesting, varied heroes. but like most of you I absolutely hate the thematic clusterfuck that is the league roster. While Zac and Annie are great heroes, one is a green blob that whips around the map cartoonishly and little-girl-who-is-paradoxically-violent is not a clever or original idea. The recent looks great, really, but just is the dumbest thing ever! Gunslinger vs a scarecrow and dragon hand guy vs some human people and a little girl with a magic teddy bear. not to mention how nearly every female hero in the game has an exposed middrift and huge tits in at least one of their many skins. Pudge is a really good example of a hero who is consistent both thematically and design-wise. It's sort of like what Chris Remo was saying about how Tetris or Halo enemies sort of represent the execution of a simplistic, specific idea. All of Pudge's abilities work splendidly together - hook, stink and eat. Eat to immobilize, hook to move people around, stink to do crowd control. Do all three to completely wreck shop. All of Pudge's abilities are built around the idea of control, the ability to manipulate others. This is also reflected the aesthetic of a huge frightening monster man with guts hanging out, someone that you wouldn't want to be near, ever. His closest counterpart in LoL, Blitzcrank, is jack shit compared to him. That's not to say that LoL doesn't have any of those really elemental-feeling heroes. Syndra is just sort of vague magic lady thematically, but her abilities game-wise are really coherent, all involving this constant juggling act with her magical spheres. However there are a lot of heroes in LoL that seem to just be: Q - do damage W - do more damage in a circle E - passively do damage R - do a lot of damage There really is way too much to say about this, so I'll stop there.

Dark Galaxy is essentially a really effective RTS fog-of-war for Neptune's Pride. Although I'll need to some time to recover before I put myself through something that stressful.

I am extremely excited by the thought of a LoMa comparison episode. As someone who has played at least 1000 LoMa matches spread across Dota 1/2/HoN/LoL (league being the least played), I've bottled up a huge list of observations and musings about the nature of the genre. It's so strange how differently I tend to play each game. Imagine having 4 different Counterstrikes or 4 different Starcrafts.
