  1. Breaking Bad

    Too pumped.
  2. Worth a shot. Put me in.
  3. Torchlight II

add Coyoday on the runic service. I got a level 6 ready for gamin
  4. Nick's Sim City story was also incredible, even though it was his neighbor and not his dad.
  5. anime

The anime itself I didn't find horrifying or tense in any way. Watching Another was just kind of depressing to me. Especially the trainwreck of a finale.
  6. Torchlight II

I've also been gifted a copy, would be down to play with thumbs
  7. Anyone Remember?

I forget the episode as well, but here's the pronunciation that he was referring to, and not Chris' interp. http://www.pronouncenames.com/pronounce/pupienus
  8. You must be here then: Also 10/10 on that 1000FPS music choice.
  9. Vibram Five-Fingers On Hooves Also looks like Abaddon's coil has been renamed "Mist Coil". While I do think that Dota have a concede button is not a good idea, there is something more to be said about people who choose to stay in the pool as an alternative. It really isn't a matter of being discontent with losing or being angry in any way. What's actually happening to most people is they realize, like most players do, that they're losing. It's obvious that playing dota is an investment of both time and energy, so some players find it justified to go AFK instead of play the game which is a really douchey thing, but not out of anger at losing. They most likely alt tab out and look at reddit or something.
  10. Let's Draw Video Games

I was going to finish this for the stream thread, but I probably won't so here is a sean/jake/chris sketch as surgeons
  11. The group "uhhh" at the end sounded like another rendition of the most apprehensive idle thumbs theme ever. Also if you could film Chris casually throwing off his shades and explaining what he's thinking before Nick punches him in the face, that would be great.
  12. anime

The funny thing about Attack On Titan is that once you get the gist of what's going on, it goes from a pretty normal show to straight up complete shounen, ramping up really fast.
  13. anime

Fascinating thing about my experience watching Planetes (spoilered if you're early in it):
  14. i really do enjoy the fact that there are clear goals to strive for in League of Lords with the league system, but that does sound a bit harsh. I guess it's just done under the principle that, provided people continue to play games, everybody will be where they're meant to be in the ranking.
  15. Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.

I played a good 5 hours of Mass Effect on PC before getting absolutely fed up with the bugs and glitches that followed me through the whole game (not being able to run it without computer jumbo/glitching through walls/locking myself out of dialogue screens). The game definitely starts out more dialogue based than combat, so I was generally disappointed when I had to drag myself through the super clunky combat systems in ME1. So I quit, left it there for a good year, played a LOT of Dota and then went back to it on a whim, since I remembered I bought it in a deal with Mass Effect 2 and I didn't want to waste a whole game. One thing that really shines in the later stages of that game is the progression of time, and the different small ways in which it really feels like your moving through a story, but at your own pace and with minute changes that make your playthrough meaningful. After getting over the combat (which was made worse by the fact that I chose one of those classes that just kind of sucked) I actually really, REALLY enjoyed the rest of what I played, and jumped into Mass Effect 2 completely on board (so to speak) and have pretty much spent the past 2 days absolutely devouring it. So I guess that was my brief tenure as a member of the Quitter's Club. hole-punch my members card.
  16. There seem to be a lot of beginner Dota guides that I think emphasize the wrong parts of the game in the wrong order. Even Purge's 'You Suck' guide starts out by telling you what the easiest heroes are, even before it explains what a hero is or what they do. I do agree that terminology should definitely be more officially supported in the game, and the language barrier between casters and the audience is really dense. But there really isn't any way to watch a high level game without having a decent/mid level understanding of the game beforehand, since there really is no visual cue that alerts progress, like in basketball (it goes in the hoop) or football (they moved to the left a bit). This issue stems from the fact that, as many people have already noted, Dota isn't an intuitive experience, and really the fun part is how complex and weird it is all the time. Like Nick/Sean said on Idle Thumbs once, saying the kills on both teams are even means absolutely NOTHING compared to everything else, so there really is no conventional score that makes the game more digestible like any sport.
  17. On the improvised ways in which different heroes mesh, I recommend lifestealer infesting into a spirit breaker before he charges somewhere, and then consuming on impact. Feels great, and I often type "CRAZY TRAIN/VROOM" into all-chat before we land, for effect.
  18. LET ME IN e: Looks like there's an officer system in place. Darn.
  19. Wonder if you need to pay 5 bucks for that horse armor.
  20. DOTA 2

We aren't called Active Thumbs for a reason. Srsly though, once the Lords Management Guild is created, I think finding willing players will be a lot easier. I would love to have a game of exclusively 10 thumbs playing.
  21. Jake did have a point, in that the article does call Citizen Kane the "cinematic counterpart" specifically referring to the visual elements. So I guess Tony Hawk Pro Skater is actually the closest we've gotten. Gettin' there.
  22. Supposedly it refers to a game that is innovative/revolutionary and changes the way video games are viewed as an artistic medium, like Citizen Kane did for film. But in practice it's often just a substitute for "good", and like Chris said, is like a meaningless buzzphrase. What's funny is that it's just a weird accolade to say about anything, and "games close in on citizen kane moment" implies that games are actively looking for a singular experience that mirrors a significant experience of an entirely different medium.
  23. Downloaded the epoch, relived a bunch of stuff and remembered the Gotse shaped water dam that I never finished. http://imgur.com/a/XKXq5 Majesty. Maybe one day I'll actually fill it with water.
  24. Gone Home from The Fullbright Company
