  1. Anyone Remember?

Did Sean "really" break his leg?
  2. add MotusPwnus to the whitelist please!
  3. Anyone Remember?

So did Chris ever find out what was up with that secret 3rd X-COM demo level?
  4. Tone Control: Neil Druckmann

The biggest takeaway from these podcasts for me is how every developer origin story sounds crazy. Druckmann's rise to Creative Director makes him look like a video game Straw Millionaire. Because college is still considered (at least on paper) as the prerequisite for any profession, its fascinating to hear about people getting jobs in an industry that has virtually no credible academic backing at all (tighten up those graphics).
  5. If I recall, the Gee Gee song was a request from a high-tier kickstarter backer, and the guy had to throw it in somewhere. I guess Japan is close enough to Korea?
  6. I love every one of you

    Oh... this is awkward.
  7. God, huge props to the guy who emailed about the Smash Bros. documentary. IT'S INCREDIBLE.
  8. anime

Hey now. You're an all star.
  9. I'll start. We begin with a cold open to Jake making some sort of animal noise or funny voice. Sean says something fairly innocuous but is edited out of context. "IIIIIIIIIIIIDLE THUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUMBS....Games, Video Games, Video Games (etc.)" "It's September 19th, 2013, and...."
  10. Write An Episode Of Idle Thumbs

Nick: But we probably won't need to talk about it. Jake: *fart noise* two-count pause. Chris: Thanks Jake.
  11. I feel like Nick was actually not a huge asshole, but constant Nick-bashing for 4 years as a joke has made him legitimately just the weirdest dude who dreams of argodale. Also is Chris' bostonfig keynote available anywhere?
  12. Microphone Recomendations

If sound quality is more important than thriftyness, shoot for the Yeti. It's also got a bunch of handy knobs and you can plug some headphones right in. You're not going to get that much of a drop in quality of you get a Snowball; just less options, but it will also work much better with a pop filter than a yeti, which for some reason has no good place to clamp a normal one. Personally I have a Yeti with a pop and the sound is crystal clear, but I'm pretty sure a snowball will work for you. p.s. consider the audio technica 2020 if you want a good middleground; it also looks less dorky nvm the usb version seems to have gotten much more expensive.
  13. Introducing this to see if any thumbs would love to engage in the absolute mad fun this game is. Sub Rosa is a work in progress indie game made by Bay area developer Cryptic Sea centered around the lethal interactions between 3 crime organizations that all are tasked with collecting either money or different items. The groups all start out with something, and must communicate with other teams (via words or bullets) to obtain their desired item. The game is a blast because of the sheer mayhem that occurs when somebody fires a bullet and a tense trade turns into complete city street warfare. Here's video of Shacktac guys playing it: So, would anybody be down for getting on a Mumble or something an acting not only as lords, but CRIME lords?
  14. Steam Trading Card

Well this card thing has begun to ruin me. I've become entangled in a strange metagame for Counterstrike:GO, DOTA and TF2 that feeds into this huge abstraction of microtransactions, in which i earn fake items that i sell for fake money that i use to buy fake cards. Can't stop. (give me cards)
  15. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

Playing an instrument like guitar, you actually come upon these naturally. Its really weird to think that Take On Me, Viva La Vida and Cherry Bomb by Spoon all have the same 4 chords.
  16. Wait what? I need to hear more about Sean's 400 dollar Dota item.
  17. Plants vs Zombies 2: It's About Time

Those Hero Line customs that involve defending your stuff while sending creeps to the other team via gold would be perfect for Dota 2. The PVZ 2 faux-F2P concept is really just an easier way to have unsuspecting players buy shit, because they can't call it what it actually is now: a demo. It's funny what lengths people will go to to achieve a weird abstract victory over some pixel zombies.
  18. Gone Home from The Fullbright Company

Gah watching the speedrun Steve posted on his twitter makes me realize how many journals I missed!!!!
  19. Sweet Idents, Production Logos, etc.

This thread is too good. And this has to be shared at least once.
  20. Gone Home from The Fullbright Company

God Jake linked these metacritic user reviews for Gone Home and some of them are baffling:
  21. My favorite part of Authority and American Usage is DFW's little altercation with a student of his due to his really blunt college course lecture. It's honestly incredible how this intricate political theater of rhetoric is actually just weaved into a dictionary review.
  22. Gone Home from The Fullbright Company

I hotseated this game with my brother this morning, and he naturally (without thumbs influence) assumed that there was some ghost shit going on in this game. Similar to the , I think the game is really clever with setting things up based on a players natural assumptions, like how you might assume
