  1. I usually feel like the issue isn't with the length of the movie but the the lack of need for such a length. I do agree, the idea that all movies should aim for 1.5 to 3 hours is incredibly dumb, but that doesn't mean there aren't a few movies that simply choose to tell that kind of longer story, or don't draw attention to its length via shitty pacing. I think about this with the Avengers, particularly, cause I like the length of that movie whereas a lot of people don't.
  2. But where have all the scoops gone? RIP episode 150
  3. Anyone Remember?

Haha, fittingly enough the BJ email is from episode 27: What is Game? I think next time a Thumbs anniversary comes around we should do a POTY.CX for best podcast moments, best episode, best email etc.
  4. Anyone Remember?

you know it also occurs to me that maybe the lack of focus on weird industry shit could also be attributed to the fact that the industry just isn't as weird as it used to be. there's still that stuff happening at the AAA level (like the MGS5 discussion in the recent episode, jeez), but the indie game scene is healthy and respected, console peripherals aren't that stupid and dont have creepy little boys attached to them, and frankly a lot of great games just come out all the time now. this may just be my perception though. also, i love that bj email. i loved all the goofy 'what is game' and nick bredon emails. I love that dumb crap. anyways ditto to gormongous because i also love danielle's presence for the same reason.
  5. Anyone Remember?

The jarring difference in vernacular between then and now I think is indicative of the change in Idle Thumbs as a whole from 'couple of dudes in chris' apartment' to 'kickstarter-backed podcast network' On that note, there's a flavor of discussion that was phased out of Idle Thumbs, presumably because the group became less journalism and more development. I really miss the musings over industry news and controversy like Senor Superdouche, Killzone 2 ratings, countdown to tears horsebag etc. those old episodes sure are different, but they definitely have a DIY feeling to them that makes me love them. hell i even miss the gigantic awkward silences that were interrupted only by the sounds of loud ass police sirens, and then somebody making a joke about the police coming.
  6. Idle Thumbs Criterion Film Club?

I'm not exactly sure I'll have internet access when I go out of town in mid-July. If so, I'll probably need to be moved to the bottom of the list, because I'll be back late August.
  7. Game Music!

I lost my shit when the actual game came up after the quotes. Thats great.
  8. Mad Men

The Thumbs-talk is only the latest example in a long history of people praising Mad Men, but it is the talk that mad me finally sit down with it. I'm only on season 4 but here are some thoughts:
  9. Idle Thumbs Criterion Film Club?

I am incredibly out of my depth here but this sounds awesome so I'm up for anything. Will probably be amazed by any film we watch regardless.
  10. Idle Thumbs Animated

I actually started one of these like two years ago, and this beautiful piece makes me incredibly sad that I never finished mine. I think I may dig that file up and finish it. Along with those stellar Derek Lieu animations, I really hope this just becomes another incredible thing that the Thumbs community does on the daily.
  11. Unity Questions Thread

Can anyone provide some tips on optimal ways to lay out a bunch of tiles in Unity? If you know how to do anything of the following: - Easy way to snap tiles to a grid neatly and quickly - Lower the total amount of GameObjects needed to tile - easy way to lay down colliding boxes over these tiles So far this is the mess I've gotten myself into:
  12. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

(man, forumgoing at 3 in the morning is not a good idea.) heres a song:
  13. The Idle Thumbs Store

Little wrinkly from the trip, but looking (and feeling) nice:
  14. This episode text has one of the funniest lines in all episode texts: " Your decision reached, you unfreeze time and realize you have somehow instead bought four MannCo crate keys."
  15. The Idle Thumbs Store

As did mine. I'm excited to finally rep some thumbs swagger.
  16. Walking Dead Season the Second

Its late and I just finished episode 3. The one thing I'll say that isn't a spoiler is that the menu card for episode 4 is the creepiest looking Clem I've ever seen.
  17. The Idle Thumbs Store

    Take pictures.
  18. Anyone Remember?

So did I miss the moment where "Mega McCheese" became a thing? This single tweet is all I could find: https://twitter.com/ja2ke/status/184148843959558144
  19. Jazz

  20. Idle Explorers (Spelunky, um, thumbs)

I wanna pop in to say that, while I play Spelunky, I don't bother uploading to youtube, and only Twitch occasionally, but I love coming here and corroborating my run with all your videos.
  21. Idle Thumbs Tablature

I was trying to spin the title into a "the threat of x" structure, but I couldn't think of a good one. When Chris performed the acoustic Wizard at the Idle Thumbs 51 PAX show, I learned the song by ear and by watching Chris' hands in the video. The version on the album is a little different, and I was bored enough to write down tabs for it. I'm not the sharpest aurally, but this will sound pretty close to the song (also please excuse the messy formatting). The opening thing is basically 4 changes. On the third, you'll slide your first finger from the 3rd fret to the 4th. On the last one, you'll start with your index on the 3rd fret of of the D string, which is then covered by your pinkie on the 6th fret of the D. Your index then goes up to the B string on the 3rd fret. e|---------------------------------------------------------------| B|-----------4---------------------------------------------------| G|------5-------5------------------------------------------------| D|----5---5---5---5----------------------------------------------| A|--3------------------------------------------------------------| E|---------------------------------------------------------------| e|---------------------------------------------------------------| B|---------------3-----------------------------------------------| G|--------5-------------5----------------------------------------| D|-----5-----5------5-------5------------------------------------| A|--5------------------------------------------------------------| E|---------------------------------------------------------------| e|---------------------------------------------------------------| B|----------------3------4---------------------------------------| G|---------5----------------5----------------------------------| D|------5-----5------5------------------------------------------| A|---6-----------------------------------------------------------| E|---------------------------------------------------------------| e|---------------------------------------------------------------| B|--------------------3-----------------------------------------| G|------------5---------------5---------------------------------| D|---3---6-------6-------6-------6------------------------------| A|---------------------------------------------------------------| E|---------------------------------------------------------------| The "verse" right after that begins with the chords Cm7 and F. "But in the end, it doesn't matter" is then G#, G, Cm7 and F. I'm fuzzy on everything after "the motherfuckin", but it's essentially the changes at the beginning but strummed fully. The first is just a Cm, and then: e|---------------------------------------------------------------| B|----------3-----------4------------6--------------------------| G|----------5-----------5------------5---------------------------| D|----------5-----------5------------3----------------------------| A|----------5-----------6------------3---------------------------| E|---------------------------------------------------------------| have fun.
  22. The Idle Thumbs Store

I posted this in some other thread I remember, but here it is again

  25. Most decks are built with a certain playstyle in mind. Like if you want to overwhelm the opponent early, your deck should be mostly low mana minions and buff cards, which force the other player to kill them all or else they die. Other decks are sort of the hard counter to the first type, built around a few early game minions, sometimes with heal and taunt, and a lot of removal (cards that do damage or kill minions). These decks aim to survive the first 6 or 7 mana turns and then come in with a crazy super strong card that the opponent wont have an anwer to because they used up all their shit earlier. There is of course, a midrange kind of deck that trys to take the lead in the midgame, which usually will catch the Control (lategame) decks by surprise, where they might have used up all their removals and can't stop you. Also when building, think about how you can string the cards together to preform some great effect. Priest has a fantastic minion that draws a card whenever any minion heals. It works really well if you support it with a lot of healing spells + the priests healing power. Another bread and butter example of a combo is polymorph fireball for mage. Also being familiar with all the classes is good, but I rarely play anyone other than Priest and Druid, sometimes Warlock. I can't be bothered to finish leveling warrior paladin or shaman, cause i think they're pretty boring.
