My brother says he'd play should someone decide they don't want to. He's a thumbs fan just not a forumer.

It seems like early on stuff is based on days (or 24 hours), so we could control the early turns in that respect by choosing when we start the game. Something like 8 or 9pm GMT might be good for that as it's not an awful time for Americans or Europeans.

Fans of this game should really check out Sins of a Solar Empire. It's very similar, but you can zoom in and play the ship battles.

I'd definitely prefer a long game, but if people don't want to, then it doesn't make sense to do one if they won't keep up with it. I think a long game gives you a little more leeway to learn on your own, plus it grants the ability to get your ass handed to you, but still come back from a tiny cluster of stars later on. I think having a summary of the full game when it's done would be awesome. I suppose we should each do our own then post it, that way we could see what people's strategies were throughout the game. Just a thought.

The Idle Thumbs Podcast Episode 6: Shoveling Your Hat and Crow

Is that what the Hypersonic Effect is for? Ruining Chris' life? -
Groucho - if you mean your PC, I THINK it's a browser game (correct?) so you should be good to play if you want. Edit: Yeah just heard the description on the cast. I'm definitely in.

I'm tentatively in. I'll be sure to check out the tutorial first though. Edit: This game sounds like a mix of Risk and Sins of a Solar Empire. I'll get some play time in after dinner.

The Idle Thumbs Podcast Episode 6: Shoveling Your Hat and Crow

I've never played Neptune's Pride, but I'm a big 4x player so if there was a thumbs league/universe whatever I'd be in. Is there a limit to number of players for private matches? -
I disagree. How did the Scandinavians get around the world before there were planes? By dominating all those in the way and walking a road of skulls to their next destination. I'm watching you Scandinavia... (Does Finland count as Scandinavia? It's up there but it's people are not Scandinavian, correct?)

No that's just a vacant stare like nobody's home. None of the sublet hints of seduction the photoshop does. :getmecoat

It's more like fat, balding loser in flip-flops and too-short shorts and his identical wife.

I'm getting close to exams - beginning of May. But then I'm done with undergrad and school until I decide I want to put myself through hell again.

I love the clarinet girl. She's either being extremely suggestive or is extremely bored. I can't figure out which.

Sounds to me like a case of explosive amnesia.

Paul Verhoeven making The Last Express movie?
Squid Division replied to Hermie's topic in Video Gaming
This then presumably allows for redistribution at Mechner's discretion and a distributor's willingness to pick it up, correct? Here's hoping it gets some kind of release. -
No. Blood Meridian was written earlier and the first 50 pages or so are really weird to get into. Basically NO time/space continuity. I'm not sure what you might be having 'difficulty' with in the Border Trilogy. All the Pretty Horses was probably his easiest book that I've read, and by far the least weird. The 50 or so pages of the Crossing I've read are similar but much slower going. I also read the one about the creepy hermit-necrophiliac in Appalachia who wears womens' clothes. It's short and much weirder than that description makes it seem. It's like if a real human being was turned into Gollum. And if there was no ring. And he shotgunned a lot of people. And raped their dead bodies. McCarthy's appalachia books are pretty damned weird. Edit: I should probably say why AtPH is his easiest that I've read. The Road is weird in its time/place continuity and the language exacerbates that, but it's not outrageous. Probably his second most accessible book after AtPH. No Country for Old Men is pretty philosophy heavy with Chigur that can make understanding the point of the book a little weird at times. I think the movie does what the book was trying to do, only better. However, the action scenes (of which there are more) are better in the book because of his amazing prose. Blood Meridian combines the two, with extreme philosophizing and no continuity early on. It takes a little for the two to even out. It took probably 4 false starts of reading the first 40 pages for me to finally plow through, but I'm also not a big reader, so take it as you will.

Paul Verhoeven making The Last Express movie?
Squid Division replied to Hermie's topic in Video Gaming
Hm, what sounds like a legitimate director directing a movie about what sounds to be an awesome game? Sounds interesting. Also, I wish I could play the Last Express. The Thumbs talk on it sounded great, and I'm especially interested in that era. Maybe this will spur a movie-tie-in rerelease on steam or something. Was it a Lucasarts game or totally separate? -
____ World-Famous Thompson?

All of McCarthy's novels are like that. Also I highly recommend All the Pretty Horses. Also Blood Meridian is absolutely incredible, the infamous Comanche scene is one of the best things I've ever read. Basically, if you ever thought you'd read/seen/heard something violent, read Blood Meridian to have your concept of violence turned on its head. Also, apparently the overarching story of the gang in it is 'historically accurate' to the 'memoirs' of one of the gang.

What part of the East Coast are you in?

I enjoyed shotgunning Playboy X in the head. You don't abandon friends like that.

Wongs' Grandchild might be my new name.

wow most of those were actually pretty good, wasn't expecting that at all. I really liked the Late for Work one for some reason. Sucker for editing I suppose.
