  1. A Rudimentary Poll: PC or Consoles and your gaming background

There's also the ability to play multiplatform games with a controller as well. Some games, especially Fallout 3 or console ports, work flawlessly with the controller.
  2. Metro 2033?

That's the same problem I have with most survival/horror games. It's just kind of mentally exhausting. The Left 4 Deads are the worst because they're so damn stressful. With this game though it only applies for me when I'm fighting the monsters. For the humans I find myself turning off all the lights in the room so that I can see even better and the atmosphere improves quite a bit. This is the only game I've ever really done that for though. I wish the gunplay was a little better. They're a little weak for my taste, but I liked Far Cry 2, so it's not that big of a deal.
  3. Can't we just go ahead and make him a permanent member of the cast? Not that he has a choice or anything, and I don't think anyone here will oppose.
  4. A Rudimentary Poll: PC or Consoles and your gaming background

I was about to type that I have a fear that they're just playing Facebook games or crap like that. But then I remembered how I used to play all the awesome flash games on Newgrounds, and how there are undoubtedly a TON of flash games out there for people to play for free; Neptune's Pride for example. So I'd say that with browser based games (even Quake now) and (unfortunately) torrents and file sharing, people with even less money are probably more games even.
  5. Post your face!

Awesome. Was that not Machine Head playing in the last part of the video?
  6. Sam & Max: The Devil's Playhouse

Well I just beat it, did this one seem a little short or was it just me? Still pretty good, but my least favorite of the season.
  7. Metro 2033?

I got this game during the Steam Summer Sale. This is truly a great game, I'm loving it so far. It's atmospheric, but it's also really fun to play. It also seems to support varied playstyles too. I love going around, shooting all the lights out, triggering a tripwire attached to a can so it makes noise and draws attention, then going around behind the enemies and tossing a grenade. That said, the monsters are kind of annoying. My weapons are getting better so they're becoming less of an issue, but so far they're just generic video game monsters that run right up to you. Nevertheless they still inspire fear and anxiety every time, but since they're broken up by short non-combative segments and human-enemy segments, they never grate. My main gripe is the save system. Why would a PC game ever not allow you to make your own saves? Definitely recommend you pick up this game, or start playing it if you picked it up but left it on your pile.
  8. Sam & Max: The Devil's Playhouse

Granted I'm only a little over half an hour in, but no issues so far. Maybe reinstall it? Edit: Just got to the Dr. Norrington reveal. Wasn't expecting that.
  9. The 12 games before Christmas

I don't think that crap was EVER fun. MM was a great game and does seem to be completely forgotten about except by rare pockets on the internet. One of my favorite things about it was the ability to go back and replay bosses.

I was dumbfounded by the number of times BC2 just took control away from you for no reason. That, along with the really cheap enemy AI, was why I stopped playing. Just finished up Sam and Max 303 for 304's release today. Like the rest of the season, I liked it a lot. Mechanics wise it's the same as 301, so it's not as good as 302, but it might have been my favorite narrative wise.

This. Also it reminded me a lot of this: oqqEh-rWy_s
  12. Life

Very broadly it seems to be a common theme in post communist societies. There was the whole thing just recently with the Orthodox church in Russia getting the government to jail some 'blasphemous' artists. It must have just taken the churches this long to get overt/visible power back.
  13. Who do you write like

At least it's not Mel Gibson. I got Lovecraft which is kind of awesome.
  14. Movie/TV recommendations

I'm no stranger to long shots, and I don't feel that Tarkovsky ever really established any danger in the Zone, so a long shot where you're supposed to feel tension, but have no reason to since there's no reason to believe there's any danger, is boring other than admiring the camera work.
  15. Movie/TV recommendations

Stalker was such a boring movie. Virtually nothing happened between the good opening sequence and good ending sequence. Even the much-touted hallway scene didn't make much since to me since The whole thing just seemed like cinematic masturbation to me, with little in the way of anything happening, but each scene meticulously shot and set up.
  16. Idle Thumbs panel at PAX Prime

Agreed. Preferably a video podcast, but more realistically how about an audio one?
  17. DeathSpank

If it's a downloadable game, shouldn't there be a mandatory trial on XBLA you could test out yourself? According to Wiki it's out the 13th on PS3 and 14th on XBLA.
  18. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

For metal fans The new Soilwork sounds fantastic, and the melodic parts are a little unusual and unexpected compared to most other bands so it's a little refreshing, and the riffs are top-notch eKe4NXa8YIU For Folk fans Since I only just beat RDR I didn't realize until now that one of my favorite artists has a song on the soundtrack (the one that plays at the end): XxKckHuHx_0 DG3Oln7sgjU
  19. Red Dead Redemption

Finally got around to beating the game. I devoured the first two acts (New Austin and Mexico) but good lord was the third act weak. Nothing but Marston whining about his family at really random and inappropriate times. The first two acts had strong characters that had other motives to help balance this out, but the third one was just Marston not figuring out what was going on despite the fact that they told him he had in the first story mission. Also, god dammit can we get over this stupid Rockstar in-game time yet? I want to do a mission, but since I get bullshitingly executed in or in-between missions, I have to save after every mission. This means that I have to use the save menu 3 or 4 times to fit within the timeframe of when the mission is allowed to occur. If you're going to pull this crap at least have a Bethesda style Waiting mechanic.

    Even better when you consider he's a 300lb cage fighter...kinda. bWDaBK4iT9Y

Just beat Sam and Max 302. It was awesome and reminds me of the Journeyman game I beat a long long time ago. Though it probably reminds more people of Day of the Tentacle, which I never played. My only complaint about these games is that the controls are a little clunky with just the mouse. Movement is awkward a lot of the time. Also why isn't the default in EVERY game run mode? I don't get it.

Just beat Sam and Max 301 that I got with the Telltale Everything Pack. It was legitimately awesome, and I'm excited for the next episodes/things Telltale does. They've certainly come a long way from the first season of Sam and Max.
  24. What is the Mystery of Scoggins?

Demo for this came out. It's pretty fun in a Professor Layton kind of way. The game is out too I believe.

Because [with a tear in my eye] metal is becoming a joke.
