I got to mission 10 or 11. It was a really really fun game and it depresses me that the 2 sequels are/are going to be on the PSP.

The Civ V guys did a 2 hour play through the other day on Ustream. Here are the links: Part I Part II

I got so excited...then I saw Kinect... Here I was pretty sure and hoping there wouldn't be anything to tempt me to get Kinect. Why does Steel Battalion always force you to use a completely useless, expensive peripheral?

Idle Thumbs 51: Burnin' Down the Wolfman [Now with Video!]
Squid Division replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
Whatever happened to the video? -
After hundreds and hundreds of hours over 4 years, I won a CivIV 'campaign' game. I've only won about 3 games ever, if that many, and this is my first space victory. I really dislike the unit stacking and what that means for combat. The huge stacks are annoying to use and even more annoying to try and fight off. Artillery units are understandably slow and vulnerable, but their inability to fire over other units makes me never build any over the course of the game until I get bombers. I think Civ V's improvements have made me hate everything about Civ IV's combat, not that I was in love with it before. So I can say I beat Civ IV right? Right?!

Sold. I never had much interest in ICO (and still don't really), but I really want to play Shadow and Colossus.

Firaxis should have taken the lazy approach and just upped the number of sides per tile with each iteration. Pentagons for 5, etc. Just kidding, that would be god damn stupid. I'm really looking forward to it, just preordered on steam.

Ah it's kinda like that here in some states (mine). You can buy beer and wine in grocery stores, but any hard liquor is only sold in state owned stores. It's good revenue for the state and it means you can actually buy liquor on Sundays (unlike most other states).

A Rudimentary Poll: PC or Consoles and your gaming background
Squid Division posted a topic in Video Gaming
Basically I'm wondering what your preferred mode of gaming is, and what was your preferred mode during your 'formative' gaming years? I myself am about 50/50 PC and consoles. Depending on what sort of releases are out, I'm 100% one or the other for a period of time, but it eventually swings back the other way. This seems to match up with how I grew up gaming. I started out on the PC since all we had was an NES, which I'm horrible at. I played learning games and eventually moved on to some adventure games, but none of the famous ones. Then one year I got an N64 for Christmas and from then on it was a cycle of going back and forth; Goldeneye, Starcraft, Perfect Dark, Age of Empires, Timesplitters, Total War, etc. What about you? -
I figured

I don't get it, why are they still calling it Forever? Seriously, there's no possible way ANY game could live up to the legend that DNF has developed. Make a Duke Nukem game and call it something else. People get a Duke Nukem game, and nobody worries about it living up to the impossible expectations.

Is this not multiplayer? If it had been it would have been an easy purchase, so I wouldn't have to go into the creepy online poker dens. As is, it seems to be more like a fancy type of Solitaire, which may or may not be worth it.

Pretty much the same thing happened to me. My girlfriend played through Fallout 3, and wanted another game to play. She had played through ME1 when it came out, but on my account. So she decided to play through ME2 on her old save on my account, then decided that she wanted her own character, and played through ME1 and is almost done with 2 again.

So now there's only two cards?

Isn't today the day they're supposed to announce it? Getting late in the afternoon to release a press release isn't it? Or does PAX start today?

While there's a bunch I'm sure I didn't get, it seemed like it's really easy to pick up on all that stuff too (broadly speaking). I've only played 101, seen pictures of season 2, and played season 3, but I recognized all the characters from at the very least pictures, and many times from dialog from earlier in the season. And thanks to the way the dialog was written, I understood some of the references back to Hit the Road. I'm not arguing with you, I'm just really impressed that they were able to write it (and the season) in such a way that it's apparent for someone who hasn't played the referenced games, that there are references being made. Also, congrats Jake great work! And Bandanaman too, I saw his name in the credits.

Just beat it. It's one of the best of the season and sets up the next season as having even crazier mechanics.

Why does Catwoman even have a zipper on her jacket if she's only going to zip it up 3 inches so her boobs can hang out. Ugh video game people...

I'm surprised to see someone who likes Carpenter as much as I do. So many of his movies were great and dorky (The Fog, Big Trouble, They Live) and some are just genuine classics (The Thing). Unfortunately the 90s weren't so kind to him.

I played 101 and wasn't a fan at all. This is coming from a very light adventure gaming background, so probably a little abnormal for around here. I went from that to Devils Playbox and absolutely love it, so it's definitely a viable place to start. I can't answer about going back to earlier seasons, but I imagine 2 might be ok. The main difference is the gameplay mechanic with the psychic toys which really add to the standard point and click game.

The Idle Thumbs Podcast Episode 13: Day One Perch
Squid Division replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
I instantly thought of this (on the left) from It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia: -
I doubt it. I meant it's the last of the season if you're referring to my comment.

The new and last episode is up now. I've played through the first act and it's great. It might be the funniest so far. Also, the whole season is on sale for $20 on steam and possible still the TT website.

I too have two missions to complete. My review is: man the writing in this game is downright awful, like some of the worst I've ever heard. The gameplay still stands up and is fun as all hell. I'm probably in the minority but the constantly varied mission types could get a little stressful, and I'd have enjoyed a few 'skirmish the AI' missions scattered in between.

wow, Mike Patton was a voice in that game? That makes me sad. Also, being instructed to 'fuck' a boss is a little disconcerting. If that's not what your minion meant, why is he telling you 'fuck it [give it up]' or something to that extent. That makes no damn sense.
