  1. General Video Game Deals Thread

No, because I already own SH4 on disk. I thought 3 was better, but I didn't play a whole lot of it. I have 5 on my wishlist, but I'm waiting for it to go on sale for less.
  2. General Video Game Deals Thread

They're so different I'd say yes.
  3. General Video Game Deals Thread

Same system or in general? L4D, Civ games to name a few.
  4. Jonathan Frakes Is The Devil (The funniest QL)

By 'they're' I meant old-Gerstmann and Davis. I like 3/4 of them and find them pretty funny, but since Davis 'runs' the bombcast, he seems to talk the most and is easily the least likable and funny (see above). I'm not sure how I'm 'analyzing it like that' since Davis' opinions have always been outspoken and consistent and are pretty long-running.
  5. Jonathan Frakes Is The Devil (The funniest QL)

By 'being full of himself' I meant what I explained in my second post.
  6. Jonathan Frakes Is The Devil (The funniest QL)

I never said that. What I meant is that they're so overly confident in whatever bullshit they're trying to make funny, even though it really isn't. Gerstmann used to be the main perpetrator, but he stopped and is actually pretty funny now. Davis seems to have 'stepped up' in trying to be the arbiter of the group. He's always incredibly and damn near offensively dismissive of anything he disagrees with, and it isn't, and he isn't, funny. The best examples that come to mind are his insistence and mocking of anyone who tries to make anything resembling a games-as-art argument (which always comes off to me as having his intelligence threatened) and his mocking of Minecraft.
  7. Holiday Gifting - Idle Thumbs Edition

Done, if nothing else for having Empire in your signature. No reciprocation needed. Check your PMs.
  8. Holiday Gifting - Idle Thumbs Edition

Speedy, check your PMs I've got 1 more, come and get it!
  9. Jonathan Frakes Is The Devil (The funniest QL)

I used to really not like Gerstmann because he was so full of himself. Now he's backed off and Davis is the most insufferable person in the world.

It's especially annoying when you build one that works, then the map simply doesn't load the carts.
  11. Steam Trezer Hunt

From everything I hear from new Civ people, it is by far the easiest Civ game to get into.

The actual building is based on it (and doesn't actually have that big plaza in front of it).

My masterpiece is done. The utilitarian in me wants to turn it into a metro station to connect near/at Wonderline. It's the Kazanskiy Sobor in St. Petersburg, Russia. -------------- MONSTERS?! Also the beta is coming soon, for whatever it's worth.
  14. Never playing Super Meat Boy again.

Is there a build up to it, or is it an instant, out of nowhere thing? Like, can you play a game with a lot of lights for a while and quit before it gets too bad, or just suddenly have it happen?

Dammit, was moving a bucket of lava and closed my inventory too early, so my wooded suite erupted into flames, roasting my flesh, and melting all my diamond tools. Anyway, mobs seem to have a lot of support.
  16. Mein Thumbcraft—IdleT Dedicated Minecraft Server

Any possibility of new renders? I was looking to build some more but I'm not quite sure where everything is.
  17. GOTY.cx 2010

I remember renting that from Blockbuster back in the day. God that game is shit.
  18. Mein Thumbcraft—IdleT Dedicated Minecraft Server

Making subways is kinda fun. I couldn't recreate the boosting mechanism from the Wonderland line, so I came up with my own that's simple and pretty solid. People need to come back and repopulate the world. c'mon!
  19. Mein Thumbcraft—IdleT Dedicated Minecraft Server

Any consensus on mobs on/off? As is, there's not a whole lot of point having health on with no mobs.
  20. Books, books, books...

Orhan Pamuk and Toni Morrison definitely from personal experience. David Mitchell from reputation.

Yeah America is not in anything resembling circumstances that would be favorable for a European at the moment. The continent might be your best bet, but really no place in the world is doing all that great at the moment. You could take the old American stance and go some place secluded and just let it blow over, or go find a more favorable European country. Remember even Canada was having riots over something not even a year ago

I'd be on if I had some inspiration. I'd build my own railroad but I don't know how to dupe, so I'd never have enough iron to make it all the way back to spawn from our fortress. I'd still very much like to see mobs turned on. I miss the first world and wouldn't mind a reroll. Something to get the number of people back on that there used to be.
  23. Books, books, books...

Ah ok. In that sense the narrative structure and dialogue-rich episodes does fit with serialization. Never noticed that before. However, Dostoevsky was always pretty meticulous with the thematic strings; that stuff doesn't change on a whimsy. His other novels are very tight in that sense and Brothers Karamazov was his last. I could definitely see how someone would feel that way as there are so many different things he deals with in that book, I don't even remember them all.
  24. Books, books, books...

I'm confused as to your reasoning for the narrative structure being indicative of the book's serialization. From the very beginning the entire book is nothing but small encounters and conversations with characters. It sounds like it's your first Dostoevsky book, but all of them are like that. The only glaring mistake I can recall that shouted 'serial' to me was the fact that the old woman's age changes (the one whose daughter is in love with Alexei, I forget her name). For other Dostevsky books, I recommend Demons. It's very philosphically layered, but a little easier to sort them out than Brothers Karamazov is. Notes from the Underground is one of my favorite books ever, and is absolutely necessary for Crime and Punishment I think. It really establishes the ridiculousness of C&P's question of the ubermensch. For anyone reading anything in Russian literature - look for the Pevear and Volokhonsky translations (English obviously). They're really good. And never use a free translation of anything ever. /Greek major, Russian minor done too much translating rant

If I read the BBC article correctly, they're almost tripling the upper limit for tuition for the universities? That's a god damned lot.
