Is there an a la carte type of thing where you can pick and choose? If not, I wish there was, I'd love to check a bunch of that stuff out, but $400 is a lot when you have $0.

Hawken, or: Fuck Me, Mech Games Are BACK!

I used to like to shut down in the river on the swamp levels. Completely invisible to sensors. -
toblix Complains About the "Recently completed video games" Thread
Squid Division replied to toblix's topic in Idle Banter
I always thought the Recently Completed was more for an abstract of what you thought of a game. Give the main points, but leave the major discussion in the relevant game's thread. -
Idle Thumbs Steam group and ID exchange
Squid Division replied to Chris's topic in Multiplayer Networking
Hm, it appears the mods never nuked the links in the spambot's post. -
There is this though 9FISHEO3gsM

Need to decide a specialty for our clan; cavalry, archery, swords, or spears. Made a steam group (since you have to) called Thumbhammers (Killstar's and my old Chomehounds clan was the Turdhammers). It's public but I can send an invite if you want, even to those who don't yet have the game. Gwardinen: the game actually runs better than Napoleon does for me, and at higher settings even.

Looks like Phantom Crash a bit. Hopefully it's more like that and less like Armored Core. -
Apparently there's a studio based entirely on awful 13 year olds' music. There's a reason no one takes people of that age seriously. ioOEBdIgQ5g

Roger Ebert rehashes old debate even indie hipsters are tired of

And doesn't really seem to include something that mixes the two, such as most good comedy. -
Once again, I apologize: CD2LRROpph0

Mein Thumbcraft—IdleT Dedicated Minecraft Server
Squid Division replied to MrHoatzin's topic in Multiplayer Networking
I've been having a big problem with the client simply being unusable. Logging in to the main menu and maximizing, the framerate goes to about 1/2 a frame an hour. I've downloaded a new version of Java and the Minecraft client, but it hasn't made a difference. Don't get it. -
I have hopes to make it to PAX prime, hope there will be a meetup there too.

I agree with this The problem is that Moriarity's definition of art doesn't include any of these, or any of the (traditionally highly valued) art I have ever encountered, based on: "The pleasure we get from it lies precisely in the fact that it has no rules, no goal, no purpose." Am I misinterpreting this to mean that Dostoevsky isn't art because he has a very clear message that he wants to convey about 19th century philosophy, religion, and humanity? What about Aristophanes, Homer, Virgil, Ovid, Thucydides, Tchaikovsky, Picasso? Every single one of these creators (to a lesser extent with Aristophanes since he mixes 'low' art and 'high' art) is highly regarded in each of their fields and are considered some of the greatest 'artists' ever. Even from Ebert's example, I'm very familiar with McCarthy and Kurosawa, and they fall into the same category of the artists I've mentioned above save only the greater name recognition. These works had purpose to their authors and the authors had purpose in that their works are supposed to elicit in you, what they are conveying. I'm willing to buy into his idea of games as kitsch for the sake of his argument, but his definition of what 'sublime art' is is completely lacking and muddled. -
Nevsky, be sure to grab the Lands to Conquer mod for it - fixes a lot of the AI problems. Actually the guy who did it got hired on and does unit design work for Creative Assembly now.

Shogun 1 is actually the only Total War game I've never played, so I'm a bit behind in knowing the unit nuances. The principles are all the same though. I'm not sure how you pick a faction. It seems you pick a geographic region for clan battles, but your faction may get picked when you start your general's avatar.

Or that awesome() Alone in the Dark.

If you have played a WWII game with Dinosaurs, they should give you the game for free.

Yep, that looks like the game those guys would create. Not really a fan of the hell theme or the RE4 gameplay (anymore) but I'm sure it will do those things well.

The Idle Thumbs Acheivements Leaderboard
Squid Division replied to ThunderPeel2001's topic in Video Gaming
hm, I'm poised to break into the top 10. Gotta get on that. -
RPS has an article on the new Mojang game, Scrolls. It sounds a bit like Culdcept Saga with more CCG elements to it like Magic the Gathering. I'm intrigued but the pay as you play aspect of buying more cards is a pain.

I used to pirate music and movies about 10 years ago when Kazaa as a thing. Thing was, I was pirating music that simply wasn't available to me otherwise (international). What really changed it was Amazon and iTunes (and now even more Netflix). There will always be piracy, making things as readily available to as many people as possible is the easiest way to stop casual piracy.

Giant Bomb Live! — Idle Thumbs Reunion!
Squid Division replied to mikemariano's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
She was awful on the podcast and she's completely full of herself (read her farewell to Kieron Gillen) but she does offer different perspectives from the vast majority of games journalists. I liked her analysis of Metal Gear Solid 4 on that bombcast, but the way she was going about it... -
haha that is astounding

I think the issue is not to record so many super drunk people. That's when it turns into a mess. Klepeck is the G4 guy right? I didn't watch all of the video but I didn't find him that bad. -
I like it. Honestly, as generic as the addition would be, there are so few good mech games that I hope there will be competitive multiplayer as well as coop.
