  1. Idle Forums Game Club 2 - Shadow of the Colossus edition

Totally understandable. I remember aiming with your bow on horseback was pretty tough too, so much so that I gave up trying to most of the time.

Really? It SotC was one of the first experiences in a game where the horse riding felt more natural than any game I've played before that. But I guess gameplay-wise, Agro was not the best for precision riding. That's one of those things that I found endearing about it though. Anyway, this game sounds like it might make for some fun discussion, so I will definitely be watching this thread. I actually did buy the HD collection (still unwrapped), but my brother borrowed my PS3 so that sucks, ugh.

Hahaha. The dark middle chapter of the QWOP Trilogy?

I dunno. Sounds like you're wishing the developers had given the character an ability that should mechanically be possible ( A ), but would be inappropriate at that point in the fiction. That's like the opposite of mechanically allowing the player to suicidally jump off cliffs, or run into fires even though the player character would probably not want you to do that ( B ). For me, if I'm going to have a problem with ( A ), I would probably also have a problem with ( B ) since they seem like the same problem but coming from different directions. Hang on, are we talking about Ludonarrative Dissonance again? --- Edit: I wish I had written a longer reply with more paragraphs, where the first letter in each paragraph would spell out 'LUDONARRATIVE DISSONANCE'. That would've been funny, at least to me.

Far Cry 3 tip: Don't mess with them goddamn komodo dragons.
  6. Idle Thumbs 48: In Space

I'm pretty sure this should be moved to the 'Downloadable Content' thread. (badum bum!)
  7. Idle Thumbs 48: In Space

Oh yeah! They had that stuff about pheromone trails and all that. I loved those Sim games.

I just signed up a few minutes ago to also say (and I think everyone here feels the same way): "Fuck you, Nick." (just kidding). I meant farewell. It's been an awesome and hilarious series, and I really love the pods and the casts. And The WizaaaAAAAaaaAAAAaaarrrrrddd (sp?). Back to talking about the episode...when you guys started talking about game manuals, I couldn't help but be reminded of the Microprose game, 'Darklands' (I think it was a 1989 game). Darklands had this amazingly thick manual with illustrations, and descriptions of weapons, quite a lot of pages dedicated to the history of the Holy Roman Empire, history of the Medici and Hanseatic League, Christianity in the Middle Ages...and tons of other non gameplay-related but well-researched information that you won't find in a game manual these days. So that's my favourite game manuals ever. Other picks would be the Falcon 3.0 manual which was HUGE. And had crazy info on combat tactics and landing gears and whatnot. I wish they'd make stuff like that again.
