Here's mine: see attached and here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Game_%26_Watch_NWS-_Donkey_Kong_JR.jpg Started my gaming love affair which has not stopped (and shows no sign of doing such a thing) for over 25 years. What hooked you? Andy

I was reading a bit about the mining elements of ME2 and I remembered this.. CLASSIC. Was really hard until you could level up to a mahoosive freighter that could just crash into attackers and then self repair. Great music too, still love listening to Grieg's in the hall of the mountain king. Andy

Thanks for the kind words guys, I mean it. I 'm just having a bad couple of weeks, buried my uncle two weeks ago (died of cancer too), massive pile of hard graft to do for the next three months, treadmill of life still rolls on...what's not to like I do still want to and will be a doctor, it's a fantastic job. I am playing with my long held idea of studying law after medicine with a view to becoming a medical defence lawyer as I am not sure I want to be just a doctor for the rest of my days but we will see. Anyway, bottom line is I am not quite so miserable as I was when I posted and in a small way, some of that feeling betterness is down to your kind comments for which I am thankful. (THIS IN NO WAY MAKES ME WEAK IN LEFT FOR DEAD OR ANY OTHER MULTIPLAYER GAME I PLAY WITH YOU GUYS) Thankyou Andy

    Count me in too.
  13. Battlethumbs: Idle Company

Yeah sorry, that would be taking up the afternoon and evening with gaming... a practice that wives strongly disapprove of 9pm GMT is a good time, as I said before, Friday is the best day for me. Andy
  14. Videogames for very young children

Woot! We have a Wii. for. the. kids. (ahem). I can recommend Carnival which can be picked up really cheap now and Mariokart is a must My 5 year old son loves Lego Star wars and Indiana jones, my 3 year old daughter enjoys big brain academy (bizarrely) and my 11 year old son likes Mariokart the best when he is not being too cool to play babyish things (Wii:tmeh: Xbox:tup: for him) We have found the Wii fit to be a bit rubbish and basically use ours as an expensive pair of scales but that could just be us not really devoting enough time to mastering it. If you get mariokart we will have to exchange licence numbers (or whatever it is) and play on the internets:tup: Andy

This is my mouse configuration... This way I can play L4D2 and have both hands free to type abuse.... I second the Microsoft vote. I have used the various models of the Microsoft laser series for yonks, and have always found them to be comfortable etc. I would say though that workmanship can vary with them. I have had a couple that have not lasted very long at all (less than 8 months for one) despite the usage being the same as others that have lasted for ages. Andy

We do L4D2 at 8pm GMT now. Are you thinking 10pm GMT for BTIC? That could be a bit late but I'm happy to do that if it means you can play as it's more of an inconvenience for me than prohibitive. Alternatively, we could have one Sunday as an L4D2 night and the following Sunday a BTIC night and so on. Just a suggestion. Andy
  17. Life

So after leaving school at 15 with one GCSE at grade 'C', 5 years of bumming around in shit jobs, ten years of further education, getting married and starting a family, and at times doing soul destroyingly hard work, I am now 3 months away from adding an MBChB to my BSc in physiology and graduating as a medical Dr. But I am having second thoughts... Recently I have been party to (at some level or other) so much suffering, pain, sorrow and death that I am not sure I can do it. I have been an ambulance paramedic (EMT) for ten years too, and have been involved with some horrendous jobs that haunt me still, so I knew what I was letting myself in for. In some ways then I am a bit of a fool for getting this far in. I'm probably just feeling miserable because I am tired and have been at a clinic telling people they have incurable cancer and listening to the consultant list treatment options involving toxic, energy sapping drugs all afternoon. But I must be able to deal with this. I'm not sure I want to be a doctor anymore, but sort of worse still, I have no idea what else I would want to do, except play computer games 24/7 and get paid for it...anyone know of any openings in this area Also, before I forget Patters, I am especially sad that you are made to feel ashamed of whatever mental illness you suffered from. I always challenge (within and outside of my profession) shortsighted attitudes to mental health wherever and whenever I come across it. It is real and arguably worse than many forms of physical disease (steps off soapbox).

  19. Online fandom in videogames.

I could be wrong ( I usually am:fart:) but it appears to tick all the boxes..it seems pretty extreme fandom to me to pay money for in game items as opposed for more game (DLC) and it wouldn't have happened before the internet and it's a global commodity. Also, it could be good for a dissertation as it is widely known in the wider social context as opposed to just the gaming community. But, as I said, I could be (probably am) wrong Andy

Friday all the way for me. Andy

What about people who pay real money for cyber money/items i.e. WoW? That is seems pretty extreme fandom to me. Does that count Andy

I'm with Miffy. Innovative combat (to me at least) was great. Plus all the other stuff make this a classic imho. Andy

Thinking about it, this... and this... ...were the first games I genuinely tried to complete for the sake of doing so. I achieved neither but do you remember the size of the manual for Red Storm Rising!? Dungeon master was made soo much better when the food and drink spell had been acquired. Which was the first game you attempted to complete? (the next stage, post cherry popping) Andy
