  2. Child of Eden

    Awesome.
  3. Child of Eden

Basically that's what sold me on it. I just want a Rez that pushes what current gen consoles can do graphically. Of course I would prefer if it were playable without the silly motion control, but still.
  4. Recently XBLA games I have been enjoying

I just tried out some trial/demo things tonight. Aqua is decently fun and very polished presentation-wise. It's basically a twin stick shooter with a steampunk story to it. Neat special attacks like mines, torpedos, and you can have little follower ships that you can issue orders to as well. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SYKwWjYIRj0 Arkedo: Pixel! is this retro style platformer with adorable music and this weird mechanic were you use a magnifying glass to zoom into objects to unlock hidden stuff. Both were pretty tempting but I ended up not getting either. I may still change my mind about Aqua.
  5. Recently XBLA games I have been enjoying

I've read/heard that it's quite good as well. But I have an ideological bias against paying for XBL Gold. Still, I have the demo/trial downloading to see if the single player is any fun.
  6. Red Dead Redemption

They sometimes show up in the area near the boat that's under restoration (kinda south east(?) of Blackwater). Didn't even use bait, although I did use the camp to fast forward time because I wasn't sure what time of day they're supposed to show. Wildlife showing up is pegged to time of day in case you didn't know. Anyone have tips for tracking down the American Standardbred?
  7. Red Dead Redemption

How many of those are there? Just the 1 in Armadillo and another in Blackwater? Or do the shows change?
  8. Emergent Gameplay

Somebody over on the Gamers With Jobs forums claims that it can actually happen so that they get on the horse with you and you can give them a lift into town. I've personally never seen it happen, but it doesn't sound impossible. Which, if true, is kind of hilarious how rare an occurrence must be seeing as I've let every and anyone get on my horse since reading that comment just to see if it happens (besides which it's easy to whistle to buck them off).
  9. Emergent Gameplay

I love Red Dead Redemption to pieces, but that example doesn't sound amazing/emergent at all. It sounds like shoddy scripting. To clarify: the rules of the world should be consistent/make sense. Either 1) the law comes after you no matter when you kill the guy because killing a man for committing a crime (or killing a man to prevent a crime) is the sheriff's job and they will brook no vigilante-ism. or 2) the guy is a prostitute attacker therefore it's always ok to kill him because, hey, it's the wild west and the sheriff needs all the help he can get.
  10. Injuries That Prevented Gaming.

In my younger days, I have played some silly button mashing console game or other so much I've gotten blisters. Which is embarrassing enough a thing to admit on its own, I guess, but what's worse is that I can't even remember what game it was that I was so obsessed with.
  11. Red Dead Redemption

Finally managed to bag myself a grizzly with ye olde knife. Caught a trio of them at the edge of Tall Trees (?) and some relatively treeless area where it's easier to see if there are more of them coming (and where they don't natively spawn, I believe, so less likely for pals to show up). Shot two of them to the head, kited the third well clear into the treeless area and plugged it with a few to the body and started running after it on foot. Thing led me on a good five minute chase before I was close enough to hit it with the knife though. Luckily no pals of his showed up to ruin the party.
  12. Red Dead Redemption

Fucking bears. Yeah the cougars may be faster, but the bears are every bit as ninja-silent and can take 3 shots of a buffalo rifle to go down if you're flailing around in panic mode and can't manage a head shot. And they expect me to knife one of these things now? I've already lost 5 horses or so doing various challenge stuff in bear territory. Also hogs, while not nearly as threatening, seem to breed faster than I can kill them.
  13. Honestly, I can't even remember how well it worked as in-game soundtrack, but I really like The Longest Journey soundtrack on its own. Also, I really like the Fez preview music. Where is Fez?! That game needs to come out.

  16. Alpha Protocol

Yeah, but it's Jim Sterling who's basically a professional troll, isn't he? He's the guy that gave Deadly Premonition a 10. I'd say the joystiq one hurts more especially if this comment is for reals (not saying it is)
  17. Alpha Protocol

looks like it's getting pounded a bit in the reviews: http://www.vg247.com/2010/05/28/alpha-protocol-reviews-go-live-we-round-em-up/ The unscored joystiq one is not kind.
  18. Beyond Better & Evil!

Expecting, maybe not. Hoping? Very much so. :\
  19. Red Thumb Redemption

Not really playing mp yet, but feel free to friend me anyways (please do indicate that you're "from idle thumbs forums" or something). dc_juv3nal on PS3.
  20. RIP Ronnie James Dio

I always figured that was talking about heroin. Riding the tiger as a kind of parallel to chasing the dragon. So the heroin in this instance is clean. Stripes could be a couple of things: could be lines marking the volume in a syringe or it could be the uncooked product cut up into lines or even the tracks (2) of injection spots along someone's veins.
  21. Red Dead Redemption

You don't need to go to town to save, you have a tent which can save anywhere in the wilderness. Restores (some) ammo too. There's an upgrade for the tent which gives more ammo. On ps3, you it's accessible from the 'select' menu that shows your inventory stuff. I think there's a bug with the bandolier in that if you buy ammo from a store it seemingly resets you to the maximum non-bandolier limit.
  22. Red Dead Redemption

As a bit of surreal coincidence, I gave multiplayer a try and ended getting shot up by a bunch of guys speaking Spanish in voice chat. Goddamn Mexicans. kidding. not racist. really.
  23. What if renting/borrowing became extinct?

It wouldn't really change anything for me. I'm not made of money or anything, but I am employed and my ability to purchase new games at full price far exceeds the amount of time I have to actually play games. The only difference is I'd be more bummed out if I happened to buy a stinker because I wouldn't be able to sell it back used. I do lend and borrow some, but borrowing tends to be of games I just wouldn't have played if a friend hadn't bought it.
  24. Red Dead Redemption

Duelling is a bit more complicated than that. I'm not 100% sure of the following since duelling comes up so rarely (unless you have the poker cheating outfit and keep getting caught): 1) when the duel starts, you get put into dead eye mode. BUT. You don't necessarily want to draw and fire right away. As long as you do not draw, the camera will keep slowly zooming in, making it easier to place shots when you actually draw. Obviously the longer you wait, the greater the chance that the other dude will plug you before you have a chance to get a shot off. Also, I believe you can draw before the word "draw" appears onscreen, but if you do so, you get an honor minus (or miss out on an honor+). 2) when placing shots, the reticule will grow and shrink. To maximize damage, you want to place the shot when the reticule is at its smallest point. 3) there are two bars on the right hand side, representing cumulative damage of placed shots, one for you and one for your opponent. If you place a shot when the reticule is large, it barely adds a sliver to it, so it's basically a wasted shot.
  25. Red Dead Redemption

So this game... I haven't tried the multiplayer yet, but the single player is pretty awesome. I never got into GTA4 and got bored with it after putting in less than 10 hours, but RDD I really like so far and I've already put in 3 hours in just the first night of having it.
