Yeah, I'm on board for those if they show up, but I'm guessing the reason for the is that it's exceedingly doubtful they will.
  2. Saint's Row The Third

So I picked this up recently. Although it clearly isn't going to have the longevity of a Skyrim, I'm having a ton of fun with it. It's stupid but in the best sense of the word. Some examples (mild spoilers): 1) The intro does the Star Wars text crawl but set to the 2001 Thus Spoke Zarathustra theme. 2) Where some games ramp you up in terms of weapons (to be fair SRTT does too), by the time you have access to the open world, you already have a missile launching predator drone thing. 3) Early on you get a headquarters place with a helipad in the penthouse of this skyscraper. Not having unlocked any helis yet, I saunter over to the helipad and peer over the edge and decide to save my game and leap off the edge just to check out the view going down (despite it leading to my inevitable doom). Instead, when I jump, a message prompts me to open my parachute (which I was not aware I was wearing) by pushing a button. Not only that, when I open that up, another prompt tells me to push a button to set a basejump target which gives me bonus respect points if I can stick the landing. 4) There is a side mission where you get to gun down mascots/furries. 5) Whereas some games might do this for a couple of bars, SRTT goes and does the whole song just for kicks: EA5sWhUCiCo

    Countdown to tears?
  4. Saint's Row The Third

I believe there's one that comes as part of the nyteblade thing that's a pack-in with the season pass. edit: I wish there was a proper TF2 spy style balaclava. Coloring a wrestling or superhero mask all one color just isn't the same.

I am reserving optimism about Mass Effect 3, but will get it anyways just to complete the story. If Journey, The Witness, & Torchlight 2 come out in 2012, I'm onboard without hesitation. Interest in a lot of others, but contingent on reviews/impressions.
  6. New Idle Thumbs Website

Corroborating sources claim this is "the way all the best" site redesigns start.
  7. New Idle Thumbs Website

I am clicking furiously on "Jeff Goldblum" and nothing is happening.
  8. New Idle Thumbs Website

Because it's not just an archive site, it's heralding a glorious future return. Stop teasing and blast some pod in our faces. edit: also, got super excited when I saw the rss feed was updated, but it's just reblasting all the old stuff
  9. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

So, I just found out about Daptone Records recently and pretty much everything they do is freaking awesome. They do retro style soul/funk. Start here for some links to youtube samples. Also, put on this playlist (instrumental) and pretend you are Fred Williamson in Black Caesar.
  10. The Last of Us

I wonder why that could be.
  11. New Laptop gaming question

Torchlight had a "netbook mode" so I'm going to guess that it'll run ok on pretty much anything. And Torchlight 2 is running off the same engine from what I understand.
  12. The Last of Us

...unless secretly they aren't vampires and werewolves at all but the product of some kind of high tech genetic engineering project. And if you can tell me that's not the case...
  13. The Last of Us

I'm at work right now so can't really rewatch the trailer, but I'm wondering where people are getting this impression. From what I recall, the girl is scavenging bullets which gives me more an ammo-is-scarce type vibe which to my mind means that while, sure, there's going to be shooting, makes it kind of the opposite of a shootfest. I mean I don't recall ever really worrying about ammo in the uncharted games...you might be low on ammo for the particular gun you prefer, but there's always something lying around.
  14. Saint's Row The Third

So I'd been playing for more than 10 hours before I realized that if you hold down sprint and then do a melee attack there are a series of badass wrestling move attacks. They are rad. viA46dt8QOs Once I found out about those, I spend about an hour just using them on anybody within running distance like a total maniac (i.e. not for the purpose of progressing towards any activity/mission). If you have a decent amount of health/regen/damage reduction, you almost don't need to even shoot other than against a brute or the armed vehicles.
  15. Saint's Row The Third

I keep thinking of rad things about this game: if you hold down sprint when you do your carjack thing, your guy (or gal...or furry mascot thing of indeterminate gender) will do a flying drop kick and enter the car by smashing in the front windshield if directionally appropriate, kicking the previous occupant out in the process. Also, the higher level upgrades (which I don't have yet) can make you immune to bullets and give infinite ammo for the various weapon types. They're not cheat codes (because the game ALSO has those), they're just the consequence of an ammo/damage capacity upgrading system taken to it's natural, logical conclusion. So yeah. This game is rad.

  17. V The Elder Scrolls

To be fair, you can only train 5 times with a trainer per experience level. So it is somewhat restricted, but mitigated by the fact that those 5 skill increases push you towards your next level up (and consequently another 5 available training sessions).
  18. V The Elder Scrolls

I'm going glass-cannon style no armor/destruction/sneak/archery and doing ok. I do much better in the world than in dungeons though. Usually, I sneak in, get a shot off with the bow, switch to dual flame then start backpedalling and flamethrowering (I have the dual destruction, half cost destruction perks plus a 15% off cost for destruction/+75% magicka regen robe). Apply force push shout to buy me some extra time to regen magicka against smaller things (not giants or dragons). Quaff potions as necessary. It works fine in the world where you're pretty much free to backpedal and kite as much as you want. In dungeons, guys can get uncomfortably close. I've found that the fire bolt (in general, the element projectile family of spells) is much less magicka efficient than the spraying flamethrower type especially as the advantage of the projectiles is range, which I'm better off using the bow for. It's cheaty, but you can basically train archery for free up to 50.
  19. V The Elder Scrolls

That's good to know, although I worry about friendly fire. I've been flame throwering everything so far which I'm not so sure would bode so well for her if she charges in for melee.
  20. V The Elder Scrolls

Do I need to keep the dragon scales and bones from that first dragon for anything? Or are there enough dragons around later on when you actually do need them that it doesn't matter if I don't hang onto this first set? They're heavy and my mage is weak. So far, I've been offloading stuff on Lydia while around town, but I kind of don't want her to come along adventuring because I'm afraid she's squishy and I'd rather not be responsible for her death.
  21. Books, books, books...

A lot of people recommend that series, but I just couldn't get into it. I cracked the first book and it seemed like as soon as I got a sense of the characters in a section (chapter?) and actually cared what was going on, he'd cut away to a different set of characters. Annoyed me enough that I had to put it down. Would it kill him to just stick with a plotline for maybe twice as long as he does before shifting streams?
  22. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

So I recently discovered Boxcutter who I think is pretty rad: RQCqQusaS8k N0b9_TMenpY 6pJGhIc2E40
  23. Uncharted 3: the Uncharteningest

I'm a but further in now (although not done yet) and although it's a subjective call, I'd say yes. Also, arachnophobes should probably steer clear of this one.
  24. Uncharted 3: the Uncharteningest

I'm pretty early on so I can't really speak to the other questions, but I would say that there are definitely moments when you can enjoy the scenery (although there isn't so much exploration, just the odd treasure collectible tucked away on a balcony or something) and other moments where you need to run away from stuff. The game does a good job of making you feel like you want to push forward even in situations where technically nothing bad will necessarily happen if you don't get a move on. Overall though I wouldn't say there is any more time for enjoying the scenery than there is in "among thieves," but I don't think there's any less.
