Well sure old Ezio is old, but it's going to take some alien artifact thingy to get the American version to be around during the revolution (presumably a teen, at least) and still be around to off Mckinley. You're talking about 130+ years old even if he's 10 at the time of independence. Which is not to say that the series has demonstrated the kind of restraint that indicates they wouldn't find some artifact to slow his aging/make him immortal/clone him etc, but they did manage to get away without it for Ezio (unless there's a plot twist like that I missed by not playing revelations).

On some level it makes sense, what with all the conspiracy theories around the founding fathers being freemasons and the links of freemasonry with the illuminati etc. In general terms, I think I would have preferred something with more interesting architecture and if they were going to do America, I think the period following the civil war would have been more interesting if only for the fact that you have Lincoln, Garfield, & McKinley assassinated within the space of 40 years and it would have been neat to see a revisionist history with protagonist assassin somehow responsible for orchestrating all of those.

I can't put my finger on a title off the top of my head, but I vaguely recall a lot that have had some sort of journal that keeps track of conversations. I don't know that any of them had all the dialogue though, maybe that's what you were getting at.

gawd some of the comments in the giantbomb article for this are depressing/enragening. One guy being a total asshole, it's bad, but let's face it there are total assholes out there, it happens, but that there are literally pages of comments defending him W. T. F.

I don't know about ECC, but he uses AGS for the Blackwell series and Gemini Rue also uses AGS.

Look, it can't be cheap getting Jeff Goldblum to do a guest appearance.

It won't be as bad as all that. I reckon a vast majority will be demands for old memes. "Say baboo!" "Say the wizzARD!" etc.

What was the most Idle Thumbs thing to happen without Idle Thumbs?

it's a stealth teaser for the next mass effect title, a collaboration with Valve xcs4klrjlwE -
Cat Soup is great.

I'm not finished, but I agree with Marek, I like it so far. I think this whole notion of seeking out the "real dead end" because it has some more dialogue is a very gamey kind of way of looking at it. When you look at a painting, I think people generally don't focus in on a particular part of the painting because it will somehow unlock extra content; you do it because that part of the painting is interesting to look at. So it goes with the geography of Dear Esther, IMO.

woah, I'd forgotten that you could play MM inside DOTT. I wonder what kind of hijinks you could get up to if you had a game where you could play the actual game itself inside the game (and regress infinitely), but each level deeper would be subtly different or affect the level above/below it. You could pull weird mindfuck tricks like letting the player look up faqs (real and in-game) and the game could talk to a server that could scrape gamefaqs or whatever and replicate the text (in the in-game version of the faq) but change key sentences. Some ambitious indie dev needs to get on that.

"Unscripted" Games Vs. the Traditional Dying Cutscene Games
juv3nal replied to syntheticgerbil's topic in Video Gaming
I think part of the appeal of "unscripted" games is that there is a sense that what games should strive to do well is not the same things that movies do well, because to do so is to not acknowledge the strengths of the medium. And the more a game is scripted, the more movie-like it is. I don't think every game needs to do its best to be unscripted, but I'm glad some try. -

I suspect they've already done some work for this and it's not a "we got funded..GO!" type situation. Although that's just pure speculation based on "what the hell else has Ron Gilbert been working on since he went over there?"

To be clear, the kickstarter is for an adventure game, psychonauts 2 is a separate thing that may or may not happen.

thread NECRO! I posted Analogue: A Hate Story to the indie games thread and y'all should check it out if you don't have some kind of knee jerk reaction against anime style visual novels. It is rad.

WadjetEye Games 50% off everything! This weekend only!
juv3nal replied to ThunderPeel2001's topic in Video Gaming
So I burned through the first 3 over the weekend and am some way into the fourth, Deception. The first three are kind of short so I can definitely see how you might be cheezed off if you paid for them individually at the $15 per (I think it was) that he was originally asking. As a bundle of all 4 for $20, it's good value. The puzzles tend to be on the easy side and you can pick various nits about the visual presentation over the course of the series, but the consistently strong voice work and the skillful weaving of real-world locations, people, and events into the story are what make this series stand out for me. -
spotted at http://goty.cx/gotythumbhonorable.php: Goddamn teases.

Thanks for that. I picked up the bundle on steam and was similarly befuddled. It doesn't help that the word "legacy" seems to imply that it follows on from something so it is kind of counterintuitive that it is the first one. -
Dead or Alive (nothing to do with the video games) is the first thing that comes to mind. It's part of a trilogy, but IMO the first one is best. It's all kinds of nuts. His Black Society trilogy (Shinjuku Triad Society, Rainy Dog, Ley Lines) are pretty good, if bleak, gangster films.
