That's my favourite one because there's so much cover in the final arena that you can kinda haphazardly run and gun it without worrying too much about which areas are 'safe' and which aren't so long as you keep moving.

Idle Thumbs 209: Ten Percent Success Rate

Gary Danko is the restaurant. Gary Dank-Os is their spinoff medical marijuana dispensary/doughnut shop. #sorrynotsorry Don't know if it counts as spoiler or not but -
Not sure if I necessarily like it, but The Life We Play is new and seems interesting: http://www.thelifeweplay.com/

I haven't been playing lately but since I plunked down for the season pass, you can bet I'll be back when the next dlc drops.

So desktop dungeons is this little indie one screen one level roguelike thing which I find super addicting, but the reason I'm posting about it is that I'm awful at it, anyone got any tips? I can beat the normal map with the priest if I get one of the useful deity shrines (frankly I don't know what some of them do, but there's a thief one and a fighter one that each give you a permanent reward for just killing stuff. there's also a fighter one that seems to give you a bonus just for your next attack which seems pointless) or if the boss ends up being undead, but that's the only class I can beat it with and despite wasting an hour trying the snake pit, can't get anywhere with that either.

I have also read that their iphone implementation is coming "soon"

Project Eternity, Obsidian's Isometric Fantasy RPG
juv3nal replied to TychoCelchuuu's topic in Video Gaming
It's been a while, so I'm not 100% sure but I think it's possible to stealth someone in with a ranged weapon and start that fight without talking to him (by shooting at one of his guards before the king himself is even visible in fog of war). That should let you prepare yourself a bit (kite the enemies to an area you've trapped for instance) and not have to sacrifice the talker. But yes that fight is hard and it may be worthwhile to do other things and level up. Accuracy increases with level and accuracy helps with 'you can't hit/do damage' situations.- 214 replies

Hearthstone: Because what Magic really needed was F2P mechanics
juv3nal replied to Problem Machine's topic in Video Gaming
I was in the beta and just picked it up for iphone. I guess what it boils down to for me is I don't like having to wait around for real live players to make up their minds. But to get all the versus AI expansion stuff is $50+ CDN which feels kinda steep. It's still fun just to play against the vanilla non-expansion AI once in a while, but I'm not getting any new cards that way beyond the original unlocks for each class. Which, to be fair, I haven't done all of yet. Sol Forge has that bit right IMO in that you can earn cards just by playing the AI. -
Liara all the way through. I did romance someone else in ME2 but ended up reloading it and replaying with no romancing to see if there was any payoff to being faithful in ME3. From what I gather, not so much. edit: I remember wanting to go for Leliana in DAO but having done something (or possibly a whole bunch of somethings, I have no idea, it's been so long) that made her pissed off at me, making that impossible.

Project Eternity, Obsidian's Isometric Fantasy RPG
juv3nal replied to TychoCelchuuu's topic in Video Gaming
Well if you already have the wizard maybe its just that playing on easy I don't feel the need to be as stingy about resting and per rest abilities as you do. Pretty sure the priest has a per encounter that's a radial damage enemies and heal though so if you have him you should have at least one per encounter ability that doesn't benefit from being fired off right at the beginning. As for the pathfinding I'm guessing I just don't mind microing a lot more than you.- 214 replies

There absolutely are tactics to use. Area of effect abilities will often affect both friend and foe within a certain range but enemies only at a range beyond that. Other abilities will draw a line between the caster and target and affect anyone touching that line, so that's something that is best micro'd. Some abilities lower defenses/resistances which makes subsequent abilities more likely to land a status effect. Other abilities do a life drain effect where they heal in addition to damaging so are wasted at the beginning of a fight when everyone is unscathed. Using your tanks at a bottleneck to prevent your back line ranged people from getting targeted is a big deal even on easy (although there are some enemies that can teleport which wreak havoc with this). If you've got the majority of your people set up to engage in melee, I'd maybe rethink that. I have 2 tanks and everyone else uses ranged. As for the pathfinding being awful, well maybe over long distances it is, but in the short distance confines of an encounter the only trouble I've had is with trying to get a guy to retreat behind my two tanks, which, having intentionally set them up to hold a bottleneck, is really on me if they then happen to be blocking the way. Also ranged guys will automatically pick a new target with basic attacks if there's one in range, but you probably want to micro that anyways to focus fire. And if you've got someone with high mechanics, setting traps and kiting enemies towards them can be useful.- 214 replies

It probably depends on what difficulty you're playing on how often it's necessary to actually use more tactics, but even on easy there have been encounters that I've run away from and decided to tackle later, so there's that. As your party size grows and as you level up, I can tell you that it's pretty rare, short of a boss encounter, to end up running out of per encounter abilities in a single fight.- 214 replies

I don't know if they have saved it as a highlight so it is kept indefinitely but an archive exists for right now. Danielle starts at around 1 hour 53 minutes (it's Patricia Hernandez playing prior to that): http://www.twitch.tv/patriciaxhx/b/649021384 -

agggh not having enough mechanics for a thing is the worst. What I get for playing on easy maybe as the combat difficulty would have gated me earlier.- 214 replies

To be clear, I think you can, while not necessarily messing your character up in terms of combat effectiveness, definitely miss out on a lot of interesting dialogue choices by picking a "jack of all stats, master of none" main character.- 214 replies

I don't know that there are entire dungeons full of wizards or what have you, but most magic is going to ignore deflection plus I know that for sure similar equipment buffs do not stack, not sure about that aura. Also, personally, I play as much for story as the other stuff so you're going to miss out on that with a full boat of self-created dudes.- 214 replies

Well to be fair, I'm playing on easy so I don't expect it to be particularly tough. I picked up the priest somewhere south of that first town on my way to do one of the sidequests, so I'm up to a party of 4 now. edit: Just got the chanter so up to party of 5 now. was a pretty rough, ended up reloading and just avoiding it for now.- 214 replies
