  1. Re: the PI schtick in expanse, I don't watch the show (nor have I read the books its based on), but I've read that it is meant to be an affectation adopted by the character specifically with the intent to annoy people?

I fell off not because of any lack of quality (I really liked what I'd heard) but because of one delay or another between episodes that was overlong. I'm still subscribed/have the files downloaded so at some point I'm going to just listen through the whole thing.
  4. AGDQ 2016

This one was pretty amusing, not so much for the run/runner but just in an "omg how terrible is this game" sense:
  5. she's at ZAM http://www.zam.com (along with Laura Michet & Kris Ligman btw)
  6. re: speedrunning as "counterprogramming" it very much feels like this is the case especially in situations where the runner will do stuff like RNG manipulation or glitch exploits where they need to perform a precise sequence of actions in order to set a memory register to a particular value. The earthbound run from sgdq 2015 has good examples of "i see the matrix"-like levels of RNG manipulation: The runner can predict much damage their character will do, which attack the enemy will choose to use, what stats they will gain from levelling up, etc. all of which are "randomized" when playing casually.
  7. I remember Dan being a maintainer for the trail for the AI movie ARG waaaay back in the day. Oh weird Cabel (i.e. Campo Santo backer Panic Cabel) started the thing!
  8. I think I've personally only actually played a handful of times, but it was popular with my grandparents on my dad's side and their siblings. I had a grand uncle who played for the Taiwanese national team.
  9. Re: Bridge the "unethicalness" of saying something other than pass is not because of what it might communicate to your opponents but what it might communicate to your teammate. There are all sorts of bidding conventions which in effect are a series of agreed upon protocols for making bids that do not actually represent, for instance, your strongest suit (at the earlier rounds of bidding), but are in fact coded tells about your distribution of cards. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bridge_convention So saying "I pass" versus "I'll pass" versus "I think I'm going to pass" versus "I guess I have to pass" is enough, for instance, to potentially denote a suit, which then represents an unfair advantage. edit: as a random example, Comfy Canapé which is deployed in response to the opposing team opening with 1NT has an initial response of 2clubs denote strength in hearts, rather than the "natural" connotation of clubs that one might expect. more: I should note that the hidden information in a game of bridge is not just what cards you or your partner have, but at a meta level what convention you happen to be using. If you can crack what convention your opponents are using, for instance, that can tell you something about your opponents' cards. SHOWS HOW MUCH I KNOW. Apparently, in tournament play this is ENTIRELY wrong. You often have to tell your opponents what your convention means if asked. Still, the point about communicating limited information to your teammate holds.
  10. ok, completely apropos of nothing, but I just noticed this recently: Jeff Gerstmann totally has the eyebrows and scruffy facial hair to pull off A+++ Shogun Assassin cosplay:
  11. Ha! I vaguely remember that bullshit.
  12. 2015's Games of the Year?

No order, but I liked Fallout 4, Her Story, The Room 3 (iOS), 80 Days, Shadowrun: Hong Kong, Hacknet, Pillars of Eternity (well the first half to 2/3 anyways), Rocket League, and Pro Evolution Soccer 2016 Destiny should be on there by amount of time played, but I only ever really enjoyed it when cooping with pals, which owing to my weird work schedule was a pretty rare thing.
  13. Rob's story was very moving and also have to echo Danielle's sentiment that it displayed a far, far, far more mature attitude than I had at that age.
  14. Fallout 4 — Boston Makes Me Feel Good

wait, like ANY save, even earlier ones?
  15. Kojima is not entirely averse to totally nutty innovation lest we forget Boktai's solar sensor.
  16. http://www.kojimaproductions.jp/ Also that bit about homo ludens is a reference to Huizinga
  17. Fallout 4 — Boston Makes Me Feel Good

He's exaggerating, a bit. But it'll always fare poorly if you're expecting New Vegas. I mean as far as I know they got rid of all skill checks in conversation other than a straight charisma check and even that is usually just used to negotiate a higher payment for doing a quest...that should tell you about all you need to know in that regard. Having said that, I'm still really enjoying it, just running around exploring and shooting stuff, it's just not the same type of game as the earlier ones is all. There's still fun to be had, but I guess I liked borderlands 2, so take that for whatever it's worth. *shrug*
  18. Fallout 4 — Boston Makes Me Feel Good

He's also followed up with one about how to adjust your expectations to enjoy it on its own terms:
  19. Fallout 4 — Boston Makes Me Feel Good

I don't generally have a problem laterally, but yeah there will definitely be barks that are above or below which you reasonably would expect to be more muffled by ceiling/floor. I've pretty much gotten used to it though.
  20. Psychonauts 2

I'm holding off on backing this unless they need the help to cross the finish line because I'm only really interested in the console version and it seems that is only available as an add on cost to pledging for the pc version.
  21. anime

I'm late to the party apparently but I've been enjoying Darker than Black It's a spy story with superpowers.
  22. Kentucky Route Zero

Have you seen these? https://superlevel.de/spiele/kentucky-fried-zero-english-edition/ https://superlevel.de/spiele/kentucky-fried-zero-act-2-english-edition/ https://superlevel.de/spiele/kentucky-fried-zero-act-3-english-edition/ edit: those aren't podcast/video but they are articles which unpack some of the references across the 3 acts.
  23. Fallout 4 — Boston Makes Me Feel Good

the worst bug I've encountered so far is I got sent by Preston to speak to a settler about raiders that had been harassing a town but... 1) the town was Sanctuary Hills and I was right there when talking to him about it 2) the settler I was supposed to talk to about it was by the freaking drive-in, nowhere near town 3) he was already dead when I got there and the quest marker won't go away... but I think this is just one of them radiant/infinitely generating quests so its probably not a big deal in the grand scheme of things.
