  1. Borderlands

Was I totally wrong in thinking Nick(or Jakes? I can tell them apart, I just don't remember which one was playing it) comments in one of the podcasts, it kind of sounded like a turd he didn't want to rip into it. But then last night 90% of my steam friends list is playing it, I wake up and a few of them are still playing it. Combine that with good reviews and comments in this thread, I guess this is something I should totally check out?
  2. Movie/TV recommendations

    It's out already?
  3. Books, books, books...

Thanks ysbreker, DanJW, thunderpeel, and any future responders(Ill still be reading the thread, just dont want to spam, lol) I think I have too many books now, lol. Was checking out that SF Masterworks and was surprised to see the last scifi novel I read was on there; The Dispossessed, it was pretty cool and I enjoyed it a lot, if anyone wanted to check something like that out.
  4. Brütal Legend overload...!

Yeah I had the same feeling, but I started it up again today and well
  5. I knew someone would make a video of it!
  6. Torchlight?

I wasn't really on the fence, I was pretty much on the other side of who cares when I found out it didn't have Co-op(I don't care about MMOs or their plans in the future for one) but the post the thumbs made with the anologies just sold a copy for me... man I hate steam for that, I really hope they never implement a one click buy feature.
  7. Books, books, books...

Could we get 1980's Ridley Scott to direct it?
  8. Books, books, books...

Thanks Gabbo, read the description on them and sound exactly what I was looking for. edit: wait, there's science fiction literature classes now?
  9. Books, books, books...

Ah, sorry, I got the idea implanted from one of the thumbs cast where they were talking about Moon then off on classic scifi stuff. So basically no space opera; also I can't recall if I've even read a "classic scifi" novel, but anything along the lines of Solarice, Moon, 2001, bladerunner, metropolis, etc.. I suppose this could just be a question for the thumbs of what comes to mind when they think of their greate classic, or retro scifi fictions, but curious if anyone else has some suggestions too.
  10. Books, books, books...

I'm not a huge reader of fiction, but I'm in the mood for some toned down old scifi stuff(it doesn't need to be old, but just in the same vein as the classic stuff) Any recommendations on what I should start with? thx.
  11. Will space asshole ever be available for download? Im seriously scrubbing through the cast twice a day now to listen to it, lol.
  12. BTW, is Space Asshole available for download somewhere? I can't get that first part out of my head and just want to listen to it more without scrubbing through the deathcast. Maybe Nick has to move and can't be there for the podcast, and like Chris said at the end they dobn't really want to try to reformat it without him (which means they just don't want to do it anymore, so fair enough) Also, hot scoopz is probably not available for a fill in maybe? But honestly, he'd be awesome to be a regular.
  13. What?! I just went through the entire library to catch up and now its done, this sucks. Sorry to see you guys go... possible Bethseda boycott now? That's surely where the blame should be placed. Also, awesome song Chris.
  14. Favorite Game, Best Game, Desert Island Game

Favorite: There's a lot in this list, but I'll pick the most recent in this decade which is Mass Effect. Love it so much I'm on a media boycott of Mass Effect 2, I literally know nothing about it except what breaks through my sphere of silence, something about no having my krogan and some aweful goth chick. Best: Team Fortress 2. I can't stop playing it, I literally uninstall it twice a month when I have to go do something else, it's really terrible. Love the art so much, the humor, everything from day one was so polished. Desert Island: I'll assume I don't have internet so it'll have to be Civ 4, it's one of the singleplayer games I can just play over and over again. But I may have to reconsider, think about it, your all alone on a desert island with one game. If I hole up in my apartment for 2 days on the weekend and only play one game it starts to creep up in my dreams and psychee(sp?) I really believe it would be bad news if all I've done is play civ 4 every day for years all alone on an island I'd have gone crazy and started actually building temples and totems to myself, proclaiming I was a demi-god ruler of the island. I'd fashion a cape out of leaves and a crown out of coconuts... it would probably be pretty dangerous if anyone tried to rescue me.
  15. PAX East

http://www.paxsite.com/paxeast/registration.php Tickets are up for sale. I'm still on the fence about this, as Boston may not be cheap and, yeah looking at Kenty's plan it's like 8 hours from Montreal to Boston by bus, so I may not be up for that, lol. On a side note; anyone going to Montreal Game Summit? My first year here I may check it out.
  16. Brütal Legend overload...!

Yeah, same boat here, I'll nit pick until the cows come how(I just finished the final mission off just incase it wasn't the final one and I had to comeback and go "I suck, I thought it was the end" but yeah it was the end. Yeah overall great, play it. Nitpicky stuff, read above, and ohnoburno pretty much hit it with what's the problem with the second island. Also, Anyway, would love to see a sequel to polish up the rough bits and get more of this world; I keep citing Korgoth of Barbaria and even Jason Forrests War Photographer( )as possible additional influences, hehe. I think I ment feature, not faction... oops. or at least another dissapointing thing, lol.
  17. Brütal Legend overload...!

Ok I'm at the end, haven't beaten it, so don't know the ending, but kind of tired at this point after just having a big ass battle 2 seconds before it... Overall I really like the game, but the last 1/3rd of is really poorly laid out. It still has all the open world features, but gets very pathy/linear, so when ti was open fields I was just driving around looking for shit, but give me a bunch of hallways and I'll roll through the story pretty quick. Another dissapointing faction(edit: I have no idea what I was trying to say here, but I ment feature, maybe?) we're on a mission on our way to the end and it happens to be kind of the end, so meh to that. While the world is awesome, the characters are kind of bland and the story is fun enough to keep going, but pretty typical hero stuff. Theres some cool moments that could have probably have been boosted up better if they had a better cutscene director, the music lyrics fit the epic moments, but the music itself didn't go with the direction. Also near the close end, I'm hearing kind of modern music, I think? Not sure what was going on there but I swear it was white zombie(actually I think it was Rob's solo career stuff) and something else I'm familiar with.... this felt really really off from the rest of the game where I pretty much assumed most of it was old stuff or really obscure stuff, so it kind of put me off. Overall (and again I'm not done yet, but I get the jist) I really love the world, the gameplay is fine if you're not expecting a super specific rts or hack and slash, I thought at the best of times it was a great combination of both as I had a lot to do in battles and it was fun as hell. The presentation, aside from the more "epic" cutscenes was rock solid and I loved the mood and feel of the whole game. The downsides was the poor map layout and pacing after lion whyte. EDIT: Oh and as someone who explore a lot, I did find the story of the Sea of Black Tears before Eddie mentioned when it was sealed up, so my Edward knew enough to make that comment.
  18. Brütal Legend overload...!

Damn thats cool, I'm tempted into trying to pick one up on ebay for a lot of money; would be cool if they released a soundtrack in a record sized cover like that.
  19. Brütal Legend overload...!

Yeah it was $70 in Canada, whereas Uncharted was $60 (and hey our dollar is higher then the US yesterday!) But after playing it some more, I think it was worth the $70 easily. It has some flaws and its kind of this weird mishmash of gameplay, but I think just because of the world and everything together, it's probably my favorite game so far this year. A lot of the little quibbles I had about talking with characters and stuff is still kind of limited, but theres a lot more as you go along, so that's super cool. Edit: Holy crap can you post a picture of that? Sounds awesome.
  20. Exact same thing happened to me with San Andreas, it came out October 26, which was my birthday. I was teaching a class at the time and the f@#$ing students wouldn't stop asking questions for a half hour after class, so I had 30 minutes to hoof it across downtown to go pick this up. I get there and a literal mountain is behind the fat ass at the counter, I ask for it, he replys "Did you pre order" I reply "No" and in the most comic book guy from the simpsons voice/generic DnD dungeon master accent I could think of he bellows "Then NO GTA FOR YOU!" Now, I'm a pretty ragey person, but I swear that guy probably never got closer to death and that EB burning to the ground then it ever will. But anyway, I just walked out pretty dissapointed and angry. Turns out I picked it up from the mountain of copies on a shelf at futureshop after work and at least the day was saved. Anyway, everyone has at least one of these stories, but that guy was just an ass and on my b day, haven't purchased anything from EB since.
  21. Brütal Legend overload...!

Totally agree about the exploration... listening to the recent podcast and apparently I haven't even begun to play the game, but I'm hours and hours in. I even woke up at 4 this morning to play the damn thing. But I don't know if it was weather, or the area I was in, there was this crazy night sky that was different from the other ones I've seen so far, but it was like stormy meteor night in the background with lighting... it was amazing. Side question though, I'm amazed at the menu art for the back stories and power ups. I can't find a screenshot, but its a little like this concept http://cdn.brutallegend.net/media/brutal_legend_20090507140029-609x456.jpg Just wondering, but there is there a specific art style this is called? I realize the character look is mostly from the concept artist, but just the representation of the bnw ink look is very bold and iconic that I'm sure there is a name for that style, I just don't know it. (I ask because I would like to find more of it from other artists)
  22. Brütal Legend overload...!

Yeah so far I think the overall presentation really helps the overall experiance, the menus, the music, the story slide shows, everything really. Time to get nit picky though, but since everything on the presentation feels polished I just wished they could have done something about the loading/hard cuts between gameplay and cinematic. I think this was something in psychonaughts and a lot of games, but even just a simple fade in and out like gta would have helped the flow, but when your playing and it just cuts to black for half a second and goes to a cinematic it just feels sloppy. Also, not too far into it, since Ive just been tooling around in the car exploring(which there is a lot of stuff to explore and unlock so far) but, and this may happen later, was hoping for a little more ambient characters(again from psychonaughts) where there are non hostiles just roaming around doing stuff and you could talk to them. The headbangers seem to only have one mission right now and while awesome, aren't distinct characters... but I'm pretty early into the story so who knows.
  23. Brütal Legend overload...!

Ok, I think I can now confirm that Ormagoden put Tim Shafer on this earth to make games for me and people like me. Damn, I haven't had this much fun since, well, probably psychonaughts, but theres just so much extra stuff to do in this I'm blown away happy. Also, fyi to anyone who picks up a Ps3, it comes with video hook ups that my snes came with, so you may want to purchase an hdmi cable while your there (I was unaware of this and my eyes are kind of bleeding right now)
  24. Brütal Legend overload...!

After hearing the thumbs compare the mp as pikminesq and knowing thats what the full game will turn into eventually, I really wanted to check this out on mp; but I'm one of those idealists(I'm cheap) that doesn't want to pay for 360 service when I jsut want to play a few games every now and then.... that and I hear xboxlives playerbase is pretty horrific (I have a story about fight night 3 one day, it wasn't pleasent) Anyway, decided to take the plunge on the ps3 since uncharted 2 is coming out. probably wont pick it up until the end of the week, but can't wait, the presentation of the demo was really slick. I haven't been following the game as it was a must buy for a shaffer product anyway; I just kind of expected psychonaughts level of polish(which was a bit rough) but was blown away with how smooth it felt.
