Yeah I dunno, might have something to do with me working in unreal and 3d aps, but I didn't find aproble, I do find the camera a bit wonky some times though, especially when you start moving to extreme verticles it'll snap out closer to where the battle started so I have a lot of zooming and stuff to do. It'd be nice if theycould snap it to the ships when your turn starts or give us a frame key to frame in on any thing you have selected. *** I noticed its been tracking debris from broken ships, but has anyone had a situation where the debris hits another ship causing damage? I haven't, so I'm just wondering if it could, since it's tracking it with a little line and circle. That'd be pretty awesome if it did, I'd like to see that extended to astroids as well. think of them as destroyable cover and creates a frag grenade if they're destroyed causing massive chaos to anything near.

If it's one thing I'm looking for in a space adventure game whos core mechanic is combat is a mellower experience. But yeah, I figured out the white/red thing pretty early, but I can do alright against a lot of reds, but the penguins so far have been the toughest for me for whatever reason. Miffy: What's your prob with beam frigates? Hate using them or hate fighting them? I just tend to spiral around them vertically because they can never catch up and fire(assuming I don't have a flank) Using them though, I'd try to get my hands on a speed boost and armor or health regen systems; seems to make them a lot more effective.

I'm telling ya, who knew penguins were such badasses of the universe. The next time I see a penguin I'm going to punch it in it's smug ass face in hopes to change the inevitable future where humans just get raped by those SOBs in space. I've been able to take them one when I have a large enough flotilla, but meeting them early on is hell; I just with they would stop changing what planet penguin country is so I know not to go there, lol. (I don't wish that, but I seem to run into it a lot)
-
Wow do I have a terrible memory while I'm at work, lol.
-
Has anyone run into any humans? I think I may have, but wasn't paying attention. I just realized; in the game are am I human? Or am I an animal? Not that it matters, but it's kind of interesting if there are no humans in the game then I should probably not consider myself human in it. Or you can roleplay that your the last human or a puffin, which would explain where the puffins are.

Alright I managed to complete a full adventure last night without getting destroyed by Bandit Penguins or anything else; though I think that was due to the fact that I avoided red areas a lot. Things that happened: Acquired a Flotilla of five ships, once of which contained a time traveling crocodile who was barking mad. Managed to find the a store operated by a Flamingo and upgrades were traded. Acquired an item from the goddess riding a unicorn in space. Ran into a bit of trouble with some secret police; though I forget what they're species was. Defending a couple of fugitive glowing Toucans. So yeah, if you haven't tried the demo or paid a lunch worth of money for this, go do that, now. I'd love to see an expansion/sequel though to really flesh out the game more. It's a long shot of a wish, but I really love the core fighting mechanic and the adventure element really excites me. I want a diablo/torchlight scenario in this game where my character can go indefinetly with more powerful upgrades and enemies. The encounter/quest generator could be a little more random that would jumble up the species, factions, scenarios a lot more. Also maybe adding a few different "win" conditions in a battle to change it up a bit. Boy, that'd be super sweet, even the idea that upgrades just get more and more powerful would create some pretty insane slick battles at higher levels.

The Idle Thumbs Podcast Episode 3: "Your Buddy, Space Marine" or "The Capper"
Murdoc replied to Chris's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
I like how in The Idle Thumbs podcast everyone has a nick name now, Chris is Boost, Jake is Video Games and Hot Scoops is Hot Scoops. It's good fun, though I recall a cast in Idle Thumbs podcast where Steve was getting a little irky with Chris about being called Scoops, which made it a bit more funny. It seems like he's at peace with it now though, so that's good. -
Apparently I walked into Bandit Penguin country, or so they told me.... I really would love a shogun style retreat option.
-
Yeah I bought it last night and was playing a bit, a the demo today at noon(I need it on steam so i can play anywhere! I'll pay for it again no problem) The damn space elk police caught up to my ass and i was seriously outguned, but there is nothing more satisifying then out maneuvering opponents to win the day. That didn't happen in the case of the bandit penguins... I was seriously a lot faster and flanked like a bojo, but with one ship I couldn't get behind them fast enough to get a quick kill. So I did a suicide run under their torperdo ship in hopes to get behind him fast enough... that didn't work and Captain Bindburn inevitable end occured. Love the game though, I haven't met up with any puffins yet though.

Something just doesn't look right\fitting with my idea of the Diablo universe with that armor...

The Idle Thumbs Podcast Episode 3: "Your Buddy, Space Marine" or "The Capper"

So, people, how awesome is Flotilla? Who's playing it? because this is crazy awesome. I'm a terrible strategist so when I went back to homeworld 2 it basically raped me a new hole, even if I lvoed the mechnics and the ambience so damn much. However with Flotilla it combines a type of game I love with a really focus strategy simulator that I'm getting the gang of. The crazy universe itself is enough to keep me going for a really long time. Now if he could figure out how to do a mp expansion..... -
Really? I loved finishing dwarf mines, it was a bloody gauntlet... I think I may have wrote about it here. By the end of it my entire party was beaten to shit and when I left the open sky really felt weird to me. Just the fact that a video game gave me the real feeling that I just went through something really challenging, I left with a few scars, and that the surface world suddenly felt weird to me because I was down there so long is pretty unique. Granted, I probably didn't feel this way when I was in the middle of it.

My computer works now and I had this pic for the Puffins thread; but then I can't find it? So F@#$ it... I'm adding puffins.

So John Romero turned out to be the wizard after all? Anyway, I dunno, I think he needs a pointy hat, that guy seems like he has nipple rings. But still excited regardless. The barbarian and female monk concepts have been my favorite so far.

Oh totally, like I said I'm not trying to one up you or convince you other wise. You and a million other people like it, that's cool, I'm totally not right other then in the context of my own opinion. I just didn't want to come in and be "It sucks." and just end it there, figured I'd at least support my opinion with my thought process so I'm not just a hater or a dick.
-
Yeah, like I said, it's a matter of artistic opinion and there is no right answer. I've heard people say it looks amazing, but i don't really dig that artists style. Not like i'm trying to convince you that it's ugly, but I figured I'd back up my comments rather then coming off as a hater, but at the end of the day it's totally what ever your drawn to art wise and I'm ok with that. 1. "texture quality" This might be a diliberate style of Hellmens, but I really relate it to quick, sloppy, beginner photoshop work. It's smudgy and inconsistent in detail in random places that looks like it's coming from a very uninformed artist. 2. Colour. Holy crap, this guy does not know colour at all. He's trying to keep it simple but not adding a lot of complexity in his object which comes off a bit toonish, but since he's playing in the "painterly" realm it's comes off as super beginner type stuff. His tone is good and he knows how to turn the form, but without adding colour depth to a painting(even if its slightly impressionistic) you get a very flat dead looking thing. Furthermore with colour, he doesn't have any direction in colour temperature, it's all over the place, so it's coming off extremely flat and dead. In fact, I'd say he takes his darks to black and I wouldn't be surprised if he worked in grey scale and then just added colour overlays as the whole thing feels like that void dead feeling you get when you do that(not cold, not warm, just dead) 3. Lighting: This could be more technology and how the art is being reused in modular bits, but the light source in a single level or screen seems to be really in consistent. 4. Noisy: Again this could be a dilberate style choice to try to achieve what I hear people cateogrize it as impressionist style, but it seems very uninformed about shape, composition, and focus. That's my thoughts and what I'm seeing; I'm only right towards my own opinion and that shouldn't stop anyone from not liking it, I'm pretty open to art beauty is in the eye of the beholder. And I'll give the guy credit for his art skill and I'll extend that to saying that his choices are dilberate and not mistakes of a novice, I just don't "get" what hes trying to say with that diliberate attempt.

Grandpa, What's a P-SEE?

I would say the PC version is totally the way to go, it looks freaking great in motion on the PC, but yeah that DRM doesn't sound too hot. I haven't had any experience with it, but it sounds pretty aweful and I really hope it doesn't turn people off from the game or the pc option.

The Idle Thumbs Podcast Episode 3: "Your Buddy, Space Marine" or "The Capper"

Jesus, my PC died last week and I wanted to send you guys read mail, I totally didn't think there would be another one this quick. Anyway, I just wanted to say appreciate bringing the cast back(I was literally listening to the old ones over and over) and the fact they are happening more then twice a year, but now we had one two weeks in a row, awesome! Even if the frequency fluxuates it's really, really appreciated. Thank you guys. Edit: Did I ever mention the new theme start sounds like a spanish tristram? It's cool. Edit2: Holy shit, I was just thinking the other day how I liked the robot podcast assistant and I'd like to see the return. So that's cool. Edit3: Whats the name of the robot assitant thing, its some wii dsi thing right?I cant remember the episode it showed up in -
I dunno, I think I'm the only person in the world that think Jon Blow is a neat game designer but horribly annoying conceptualist. Pseudo(or real? I dunno) pretentious presentation made me vomit on braid a dozen times over. Also, I prefer that programmer art above then what was in the final product, I really thought it was an aweful style and a horrible mishmash of imagery. From the concept of the Witness, I'd agree it's a bit plain, but there's a real intent there and focus on colour which already goes farther then what braid presented; in my opinion of course, I know there are others.

Nope, your not wrong there about that blandness, it's really, really, really hard to get past. But it's more apparent during the beginning and the end then it was in the middle and really that backstory/"rich tapestry" stuff people love to share to you is actually what made me at least like the world they made. It really shows promise in what they could do as a brand in later installments if they can get their art department and the main questline to step it up like the backstory and politics of that world.
-
Really the writing in Dragon Age was godaweful? I thought that about the story, premise, and any dialog related to those two; but the dialog everywhere else that didn't have to do with the main quest and the "surface" fantasy was pretty damn great.

Because it was amazing and argueably the best mario bros. game?

http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/62296 ugh. I guess that quality innovation thing Ubisoft tried didn't really maxamize profits.
