Those are some pretty awful quotes for a trailer. I haven't followed this but from the initial comments I saw it's expected to suck, even with some neat visuals. Anyway, pretty hilarious and vague quotes that really could be taken out of context. "Interesting" "Theres something on my screen" "I dunno..." "Gamers are in for a surprise... because this is a flaming turd" "Already looks worlds apart... from anything playable"

Vj -37 Dumb. I was fun with all the goofy zany stuff, but this last act is really inconsistent with itself and the characters. The switch between some characters and the sudden retardation of York is disappointing... same goes with the game-play; say what you will, but it really gets into epic video gamey, which I mean the mega thing at the end is actually pretty hilarious but not really inline with the theme they were selling through out the game. Furthermore: Also not

HOLY SWEET ZOMBIE CHRIST! Hillcoat directs short film using RDR! http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/64012

Honestly none of that bothered me, i didn't get through the film because I was bored to tears. Kick ass and the nerd squad was basically spiderman 1 that wasn't that much more comedic then spiderman. Nic Cages story seemed kind of neat, but I tuned out half way through. I didn't know this was written by the wanted guy, but it sort of fits now as wanteds premise was so boring to me I didn't even give it a chance. *** On season 7(6? the last one) of The Shield... it's pretty much running it's course in this season so glad it's ending. I really enjoyed the series and have burnt through it in a couple weeks. It's pretty much the anti-wire where the first season I was just making fun of the non police work and one liners, but it's the best anti-wire there is opposed to a crappy example like CSI Miami.

Well aside from micheal Mann's cinematography and art direction I heard he doesn't clean up the footage. Most hd digital stuff is grainy is shit and gets a lot of post cleaning, where as something like Miami Vice was the raw footage. Public Enemies- I honestly have no idea what's going on in this movie in terms of camera... the whole movies became a cinematography play ground and looked like he switched back and forth between different cameras/formats for different scenes throughout the thing.... it was cool in that way, the story became secondary to that in for me.

This is kind of my issues with the two things that seem to be fighting each other in this game. One being my perception and the competant execution of dynamic events and open ended structure. With all the road side events, strangers, and area events in the game I really was hoping this was more of a Stalker style game. The other being the tired Rockstar formula of linear paths. I really like their stories, cut scenes, and dialog(maybe not so much in Red Dead, its a bit vanilla) butthey do this really well, it just isn't working very well in Red Dead because the game mechanics make it feel more dynamic then what the story mission paths are offering... so I feel those two things are fighting each other and I hope for a sequel that settles on one or the other. In terms of story, yeah its silly Marsten needs a rag tag bunch of crooks to get into a fort... but meh. Im getting more dissapointed with the fact that capturing Bill Williamson seems to be the entire point of the game; I'm really sick of games that introduce me to what seems like a pretty typical errand int he first five minutes then makes me spend the next 5-60 hours going through hoops to complete that task. I've destroyed a million people at this point, walking into a fort and killing some super villian doesn't seem like a big task. Too many video games have these really low level stories and it's getting a bit boring.

It's an art piece rendered in "real time" it has nothing to do with game-play. A lot of 3d artists do pieces like this either in real time or not to show modeling/texturing skill. It seems silly to make a practical level art for your own personal portfolio when the final result is a few jpegs or a 30 second clip; unless your trying to learn something or prove it. Really just look at it as an artist using the CryEngine as an outlet to render, nothing more then that.

Civilization IV: Shut the Hell Up, Montezuma
Murdoc replied to HPopper's topic in Multiplayer Networking
Blarg, I'm all over the place and totally missed this. I'll try to get in the next game that's set up, hehe. -
Yeah, whenever a game gets approved at Ubisoft they have to go present it in Paris to the top brass. They felt the girl was too ghostly and wasn't personable (which would have been fine considering the alternative was annoying) The whole thing reminded me of Shadow of The Colossus, 1001 nights style... I'd really like to see that game one day. I think the art style was adjusted too because it was looking too ps2 and not "next gen" enough. Granted the video I saw looked a bit flat with tone and color, but it was heading in a stronger direction then what they ended up with... it sort of was like Twilight Princess. Though that isn't too say I don't like the final look of the environments in Pop 2008; it looks nice, I just didn't like a lot of the choices in character design or architecture.

Put that in a spoiler tag you bastard! Entire game ruined now EDIT: On Vj 36 and I never thought I'd say this about this game, but it just got stupid.

I'm pretty much done with Puffin galaxy. I can't seem to pay attention to two different games and for some reason they are the complete opposite. Puffin is SLOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW; like wholey shit it still takes me 10 hours to go two inches. Also, puffin feels dead, I think most of us switched over to Wizards and Im currently in a losing battle with Blue; who won't talk and doesn't have an AI symbol, but it might as well be... it's weird. Anyway, I still think a game like Wizard would work if the starts were a bit farther a part and something I'm more into. After Wizards, I'm going to take a break but totally want another game later. My passive neutral style wasn't intended to win the game, but Im way behind in everything that would allow me to do what I wanted. The only play style that has seemed to work for me is agressive expansion.

Oh theres my inventory. I was trying to figure out where half the shit I bought was. Thanks!

I gave up playing today because the autosave feature is shit. I complete stuff, thinking it autosaved ala gta, go out do more stuff, die, then it reloads like an hour again. Can only take so many times of that, not sure why it doesn't work like gta4. I dont want to have to go into town after every little thing I do and advance the world 6 hours just to save progress. yeesh.

Chat works! I don't know if anyone else is seeing it, but I got mine working, I tried typing something into it even if it was stuck on loading and it all came back and is visible now, lol.

Yeah I'm not far into the story, but so far the dialog is a bit bland(like any american made western)and the character seems enigmatic for no reason... there was actually a hilarious point of dialog where bonnie mentions this, like poking fun at a crappy narrative trick. I don't know if it would be a lame thing to do, but I just don't understand why all westerns haven't appropriated Deadwood's curse filled iambic pentameter form of dialog... it was awesome and fit perfectly with the setting. Rockstar as been making a point to really focus on animation and facial mocap for their characters. They get a third party company that works on high end movies to do this and so far it's paying off. On some main characters there are just really little subtle things to their facial animation that look amazing at times. One thing that really stands out as kind of sucky is a problem a lot of rockstar has/had is the animation, mouth and dialog not really syncing up. Like I'm looking at amazing puppets act but the voicing I'm hear don't feel like they are coming from them, it could be a timing issue or a lip sync problem. I felt Lost and and the Damned(and possibly gay tony) got rid of this problem as they adjusted their character models to have really accentuated mouths... the only issue with that was they looked a little ardman-esq... but the main characters stopped feeling like puppets with dialog being played over the scenes and because characters. Anyway, it's a minor point, but I really hope they do some lost and the damned type dlc and hopefully fix that small quibble.

1. Yeah, I'm re-reading my posts and I'm not making much sense in them or being very specific. I'm not trying to argue you or get hostile, just offering a counter point with another opinion. I don't think I'll do a better job at getting my opinion across, but I'll try to separate it into two categories; game-play and narrative. Game-play: The design and mechanics. Quite frankly there seems to be a lot of give and take on this subject of using a certain feature or mechanic from another game. I mean on one hand, it's kind of lame, on another if it was a real innovation for the genre; why not? Every game does this to a certain extent. Now literally taking ones games entire feature set and making your own. Fine line? but it happens; it's how genres were made... and probably still are, we just aren't making up new genres as often so maybe it's not as noticeable. 3D dot heroes is a Zelda game in terms of design and mechanics. This is what I was specifically saying what's wrong with doing that? Yes, we have a Zelda series that is great, but there's no Zelda genre, which is kind of disappointing. Because as much as I like Zelda, I would love to see other peoples innovations and takes on the zelda style game mechanic. Now, Heros didn't do a lot in terms of innovation from what I understand, so it's not really their take or innovative stance on it, it's a shame they didn't try to just make a zelda variation using that art style. They use the word homage, or retro something, whatever.... Anyway this kind of where I agree with you, it's pretty lamey, but on the other hand I want a zelda genre so bad I'm glad someone at least did it, even if they didn't really improve and do their own thing with it. It's very existence might at least encourage other people to try to do their own. Again, if you have a fundamental problem with appropriating mechanics, game types, etc... I can understand that, but disagree with it, because you'd essentially have a problem will 99% of the games being made today (maybe you do? I dunno) because they are all variations off concepts made by other games in terms of design and mechanics. Narrative: This might not be the right word of it, but basically I'm talking about the concept of the story, characters, world, mood, etc... This is what I was mentioning that A LOT of games either completely take from movies and sometimes books, take portions from other medias or do little "homages" of their own. In this aspect, I think the Thumbs discussed it on one of the podcasts at some point, video games are really pretty unoriginal and low level most of the time. There are exceptions and even stuff I think is really neat usually has some aspect from a book or movie; but that whole debate is the same for books and movies and how nothing is original anymore, which I think is bullshit. Then you run into problems about was it deliberate or unintentional; should a response be different in either of those cases? Anyway, not going to get into all that because it goes nowhere. Let me say, yeah taking another games narrative or whatever is not only a bad idea(mostly because it's a derivative of something better from film or books) but it's fairly unoriginal. But again, homage shouldn't be used as a blanket term to protect the people that do it. Point is, I want there to be more zelda games that use the design and mechanics, but I fully expect anyone who wanted to do their own twist or innovation to that style of game to come up with their own narrative. Though, personally, I think it would be kind of fun if some early attempts used zeldas premise and story structure as well... which again might be seen as kind of lame/almost plagiarism; but again, what's the difference between that and every other video game that does it to another medium. Or every story that uses the heros journey structure or other similar narrative devices? One day I kind of hope they do they use the art style for 3d dot heros, make an innovative zelda game mechanic, but introduce their own narrative. I like the art style, so making a less jokey zelda game would be more interesting to me.

I got stuck in pikes basin after my horse ran off a cliff and died... luckily it broke my fall and I survived, but damn I couldn't get out of that place. So I'm walking and saw some wild horses, I ran one down(yeahh...?) latched onto and now it's my horse, yay! Getting drunk in a saloon, get outside and some hooker is being raped or murdered, put a stop to that I did... then i thought, maybe the alcohol was effecting my judgement, she was a hooker I think, so who knows.

Well we totally loaded up the chat window in the last completed game, but it was over time, maybe we hit it too hard and too fast.
-
Ha, that's awesome. Though honestly we were pretty chatty at the start, I miss it.
-
Yeah I'm pretty sure I'm scratching my head with chris on that. I've been doign what I normally do other then acquiring a lot of stars yet am getting way behind. I know more stars = more odds for cheap stuff. But I dont normally spread out my stuff anyway, just weird. This is why I need replays, hehe so i can watch other people play the game.
-
Im thinking the same thing in Puffin Galaxy, theres like 2-4 players with twice the science, economy and industry and ships. They don't have that many more stars then I do, not sure what I've been doing wrong here, especially when I was able to take someone elses science planet and raid a few of his economies.
-
Nah it's cool, I'm liking the game so far, it's interesting to try different things, I was speaking more in terms of the "ideal" But I can see this game ending really quickly when it gets going, lots of cash + short range = trouble... I'm looking at you Green Remos.
-
Even in Wizards game the money seems to be pretty excessive from the get go too. In comparison Puffin started earlier, the stars are farther apart and am still only making like half the cash, lol. I think I prefer something in the middle of both of those games.

THis map feels super condensed though, but thats what I like about 12 player games, there stories that just dont involve you, your not the center of the universe, Joflar
