  1. Driver: San Francisco

Drive 1 was a pretty neat chase/getaway game after you get past the tutorial(I think it took a friend and me like a day to do that alone, lol) I don't recall it being overly open world, it was totally mission based but basically take the chase/getaway sequences in GTA and make them a game, only because thats only the game, they were quite a bit more memorable(at least compared to GTA 3 that was done way later) I remember playing the Michael Madeson Driver(driv3r?) and Im not sure where or how, or why? It was basically trying to be GTA and ended up (in my memory)about as good as True Crime (in my memory both these are shit.) I got to see Driver last summer, the production lead was actually one of the chief technology guys on Farcry 2. It was in a very rough state and very much GTA(physics, driving, world, etc) so I was pretty blown away when I saw the E3 presentation... its come a long way. Wrong: Yeah so turns out this Driver isn't the one I got a chance to see, this is the other one thats been in the works in New Castle for like 4 years. So yeah stay tuned for that whenever... I'm still perplexed why they started from scratch when there already was Driver in the works with seemingly superior technology. So either way I liked the references they were saying and being able to see those references in the game, which was pretty neat. It had me sold up until the mind control bit. Visually flying out of the city was neat, but I really dislike the feature all together as their references and everything up to that point was so grounded.
  2. Portal 2

Thanks for the info. Curious about your thoughts on the length since I remember reading on your blog(and agreed) about the idea of the "short game" being similiar to the short novel. Portals length was perfect, a larger game, in theory, should be awesome, but I also wonder about that. Also just on a larger topic of why it even needed to be a larger game.
  3. Dwarf Fortress: Succession Fort!

Well, we could just start asap and let people join or drop out as they please; it's not like a neptune's pride game that requires someone from start to finish(is it?) as long as they are capable of completing a couple seasons(their term in office) it should be cool, right? Boy I don't understand military, I can't seem to put anyone in charge of the idiot that is currently in charge, goblins are wreaking havok on the folk and their off sleeping or drinking and not doing anything I try to order them to do.
  4. Dwarf Fortress: Succession Fort!

Sorry to derail the thread, so to get it back on point: Actually, if no one minds me missing the second turn(maybe? but will for sure be around for the third, etc..) and if I could be bumped in front of the question marks, I'd love to give it go. You'll see my credentials are in order with my past experience, so it's like they say, lightening never strikes twice, so I'm a lock for not killing everyone unintentionally or intentionally.
  5. Do yous guys still break for pizza? if so What kind, What's your favorite pizza? Where do you most frequent for pizza or at the least order out. If I showed up as the pizza delivery guy with a pizza could I say hi on the podcast? The Stalkers Fan Club of The Idle Thumbs would like to know! It's not what you think, we're all just fans of Call of Pripyat and IdleThumbs. seriously.
  6. Dwarf Fortress: Succession Fort!

Ah, neat, it just suddenly happened. Well after a mishap with magma my self proclaimed mayor and everything else went all depressed then, as I suspect, committed suicide. He went way off into the woods to "conduct a meeting" with himself and the god damn fish in the river and BAM! goblins. He's dead now. I still trying to figure out channeling because I have people stuck in holes now and my kitchen is flooded with magma, lol. edit: They're all dead now. Basically during the winter without a leader it turned into the shining. No one was working and everyone was just breaking stuff and killing each other. So I drafted everyone, sent them to the meeting hall, locked the door and had someone on the outside pull the level to the kitchen door. I don't think the fortress can be salvaged with a few crazy masons and a bunch of kids and dogs running around busting up stuff.
  7. Dwarf Fortress: Succession Fort!

Question: I'm guessing as the fortress gets bigger the classification does too? Like village, town, city, metropolis in SimCity? Because this miner from day one just started to be everything, like broker, etc... and just named himself the first Mayor and now all the admin roles have different titles. What just happened here? edit: Also, what am I if not Mayor? Can I have this guy arrested?
  8. E3: The Keynotes

I hate to keep harping on this because the last two zeldas I thought were just awesome in what they did with the art. I mean Twilight was like a classic *ps2(oops said ps3) final fantasy, but man some of those cutscenes and the mocap(?) were just so god damn cinematic it was really amazing. Windwaker had so much friggin personality it makes my head explode. But this kind of feels like middle of the road compromise for everyone, where potentially everyone wins, but it just has ended up with some pretty bland designs it's feeling like everyone loses on this. The environments(shitty tree top aside) do feel like an old throw back to the Zelda illustrations in Nintendo Power; so I can see where they might be going with it, but again we have two examples that were far better already. Anyway, my initial usual "fuck it" reaction has subsided, it'll probably be neat. The show floor demos are resulting in a "hey this is neat" game play and I don't actually have to stand up to play it, so I'm cool with that. I still think the last two games have shown that the game can be so much more then what they are showing us right now, so who knows; I can't imagine they would sacrifice art/scope/gravity just by having a new control scheme, so the demo might not be the best thing to go from.
  9. Dwarf Fortress: Succession Fort!

Would, but I will be MIA after this month until august. I'll try to get on this in the fall if you guys are still going.
  10. Dwarf Fortress: Succession Fort!

How did those Boatmurder people get dwarves named after them? I used to love that in Simcity is become some crazed mayor that would build a giant park around his house and bulldoze any trailer parks within eye distance of my mansion. hehe. edit: I still see the word whore pop up, I don't know if it's a glitch when Im scrolling through levels too fast, I'll try to take a screenshot though. Maybe I've just gone crazy. Anyway, it was around the time this morning when my gem setter went mad and goblins were stealing the children that I pretty much thing this is one of the best game systems ever realized. I would honestly love to be on a project and try to turn this into a sellable product (Sorry to use a crappy term like that and I by no means suggest dumbing it down or making it more of a game, just make it playable to more people, have a an easier time for entry level players and making it look better) Anyway, my friends think I'm crazy now since I've been diving into the littler games and this one by far is the toughest sell ever just based on how it looks. Amazing though and I haven't even scratched the surface or figured out anything.
  11. Portal 2

I think the whole publisher, manufacture thing with Valve is grossly off base. BUt I don't have any other reasonable explanation other then steamworks on consoles is good business for Valve and if they could get it done with MS I'm sure they would have/will. Those videos were pretty awesome, I'm still really curious how any one played portal or expect to play portal 2 on a console, my brain can't comprehend that.
  12. Journey (thatgamecompany's next thing)

Instantly more interesting then anything I saw today. Neat, hope it's fun.
  13. Dwarf Fortress: Succession Fort!

Can it explain why one of my dwarves has the classification of "whore" and why there is a wedding reception going on in my only meeting room with a muskox? I didn't even notice I had any whores until I got the invitation to the wedding. This makes me wonder if she will stick with her career because if she does I better build a brothel somehow. edit: I can't find the whore on the unit list, maybe I was mistaken, I'm sure I read whore.
  14. Life

Actually it did, just needed to rant a bit. They showed up at 4(said 2) didn't care about the parking and hauled it off. We'll see in a few months if I get it back at all or in one piece, but worry free right now, hehe. Also did the calculations for a bank loan for school so I can eat; its not bad, for being more then half a decade after I went to school it's pretty comparable to my loan from back then and that was a easy to pay off at the entry level wages I was on. So cool beans.
  15. E3: The Keynotes

It's populous: the beginning with some cool ecosystem simulations and a bit of pixel junks shooter in there. It's neat, but kind of hoped for something a bit higher level like populous 1-esq.
  16. E3: The Keynotes

Still feels like yesterday *sniff* But my point is, todays MS isn't the new MS, it's pretty much the same one from back then, they just might not be snarking off directly; though yeah Sony did make a few jabs at everyone oddly enough. Not really sure why, they have nothing to be ashamed off for the past couple years.
  17. E3: The Keynotes

Ms has done that in the past, I think everyone has blocked out the Snark wars of the ps2 and xbox 1 between MS and Sony. Be assured, it was snarky. edit; One other thing... anyone notice a wii port to the ps3? dead space. Yeah. how about that. Maybe there is a chance we can see a 1080p version with new post fx(fog, dof, motion blur) of Epic Mickey. that would be great. I'm glad there is still a game there because the concept is really cool, the graphics/art aren't that bad seeing it in motion, but man a high res version with some atmosphere would just be better.
  18. E3: The Keynotes

How was Portal even played on a consol to begin with? That fact alone kind of blows my mind. DKC seemed competent, but it looks like "yep, that's donkey kong country" The whole Nintendo revival thing is appreciated I guess, but not all that exciting. I like when they do things new like Mario 64, Galaxy, Paper Mario, etc..
  19. E3: The Keynotes

SURPRISE! No last guardian bleh edit: I would like to add that with my excitement over a zelda or a guardian showing today this ended up being one big turd cherry on my sundae today. Man that teaches me for getting genuinely excited over e3 again.
  20. E3: The Keynotes

Wait Steam on Ps3? what are the chances of pc emulation on ps3 through that one day? I dunno, but ok.
  21. E3: The Keynotes

I dunno, I like playing a game, not waggling around, working or not. Twilight Princess had a good combination of minimum waggle and actual controller. Sony is up... Unvelied the WIZZZZZAAAARDDDD. Well not really, but seriously take that game and make a full hardcore wizard game out of their waggle wand and I'd play that. Edit: Hey I've seen this before, it'a the MS press conference of "Core games, here they be, alright now on to the real show, move control shit!" Anyway, come on last guardian, thats all I need to get through the day again, hopefully its neither waggle nor 3d involved. Hey the paid actor to say things they want is saying exactly what I was thinking, neat! edit2: Is anyone else completely creeped out by that sony remote, something about it is really really wrong, I don't know I think its the glowing ball or something. edit 3: Holy shit this sony turd sandwitch just keeps going. I just want to see the good thing at the end and not this filler crap about 3d, psp, etc..
  22. E3: The Keynotes

Yeah it's not bad, its just kind of this half and half version between twilight and windwaker so it's not as cohesive as the others. The designs are also very, very vanilla Zelda. Also, Ocarina of Time kind of looked like garbage to me, so I might be seeing too much of that, its very polygonal, especially the tree tops. Again, not bad, just not as effective as I thought twilight and windwaker were executed. Also the controls just make me sad.
  23. E3: The Keynotes

I think Nintedo just destroyed my brain in the fact it didn't have overly scripted conversations between people and had the least amount of casual gaming talk then any of the keynotes... I mean what the hell is the world coming to? Though that interpretive dance trailer on what 3ds is like was hilariously odd. And the announcement of free Bjs from hookers at the end was especially odd. ...Oh thats not what that was? Also Nintendo provides the shuttles to send them to Sonys presentation? That sounds hilarious odd and could be used underhandedly, lol. Anyway despite Zelda looking like a bag of ass, good for them on an interesting presentation that wasn't filled with talk and super casual bs.
  24. E3: The Keynotes

I dunno about gassed, just a little depressed. Golden eye looked competent enough, but we have other shooters now, so meh. Just because it was great in the 90s doesn't mean it holds up now compared to the innovation and evolution it started. Donkey Kong Country was neat I guess, looked pretty much the same, so yay. Kirby makes me cry. 3ds could be neat I guess, but I have to call them on the whole "we made the first 3d game back in the 90s" because I'm pretty sure they didn't
  25. E3: The Keynotes

Fucking Zelda first thing! Windwaker meets Twilight for style... wish they would just go one way or the other though, but still cool. Swoord and shield... oh no, no no no... oh thank god he's talking about the remote. Oh I need stand like an idiot to play this game... ... :\ edit: :\ :\ :\ :\ :\ :\ Game looks like something I'd want to play but the controls look awkward as fuck and considering Miyamoto cant even play the game properly with them that doesn't say a lot for my chances. edit 2: hats off to Warren Spector for retaining his game design in Epic Mickey(seriously Disney Epic Mickey Purple Bubblegum Monkey?) its just a shame they couldn't have retained that mood and hi fidelity graphics it would have had on the other consols. edit 3: oh no, not you too kirby! *sniff*
