ahhh, so the stars on the outer rim aren't just a bother to capture but also the least valuable... really interesting. I was thinking if someone wanted to they wouldn't even bother with the core stars, but if the outer rim is worthless you pretty much have to. Totally changes everything. Curious to see how this pans out.

Just checking in(said I was away fo the net this month) but just went through all the twitters. Hard to follow what's actually going on, but the map updates just make my head spin. It looked cool when everyone was starting out, but now I think if someone spinned that map I'd have a seizure, lol. I reallllly want to read the post mortems on this and thoughts on the spiral galaxy.

I was pretty Warcraft obsessed in these days and there used to be a really awesome fan site with great information, sound clips, and trailers. Boy, did I read that stuff over and over again it was awesome. I remember years later seeing the awful Heavy Metal 2000(or whatever) and I swear the art was done by the same people that were making Warcraft adventures, the characters had similar styling and the backgrounds were fantastic, just like Warcraft Adventures! I even remember Clancy Brown popping up in voices, which was cool at the time.... still would be. Even within the Warcraft universe it still was in that Warcraft 2 territory where it was a pretty interested story and had the original hard edge to it... unlike where I feel it's gone with WoW wheres it's just pure goofiness now.* *I mean it was always goofy nerd crap, but it just seemed Warcraft 1-Lord of the Clans was a little darker and grounded but still had humor; where as I dont get any of that nowadays from whatever WoW is doing.

Maybe he thinks your the internet's Chris Remo and is star struck?

Ill withhold judgement of the new series once they get a few regular episodes under their belt. The rebirth thing was basically a "we're back" episode and I felt the timing was pretty gilted on the gags and plot. Ending was weird too. Also I apparently missed the last movie episode thing so a few things were "Wait, what?" Hopefully they will find their rhythm again since the original series was so great.

I'd try to form some sort of play by play for the thread, but sorry guys I am just swamped with moving stuff. I guess I figured it would happen, but I'll be MIA for a month more more because of this. Twitter seems to be the place to follow it, though hard to get a good sense of the overall situation... which is what the statistic page helps with, hehe. All I know is I really want to be apart of this spiral game(if I had the time, lol) really itching to play a serious game again, even if it means never sleeping. Spiral seems really fun, but whats your guy's(the people playing) impression of the spiral?

I knew I should have never stopped playing this game...

Yeah I have no idea what that is, but I like the idea of not being pulled through a narrative... but maybe I am interpreting that incorrectly. Basically thats what dragon age felt like to me accept at the start and near the end, it was just go do whatever and find out whats going on in such and such place, it was great. I really disliked it when it went back to their lame ass lord of the rings, mass effect, and every other story ever plot.

EXPEDITION TEAM 1. Dibsric Snorestorer -Brewer/Macedwarf (expedition leader... you started this) 2. F4TC4t - Carpenter/Axedwarf 3. Murdoc Stouthate - Farmer/ Mechanic(need traps more, lol) Skill/Profession Reference http://df.magmawiki.com/index.php/DF2010:Skill I originally thought we got ten points, but we get a max of ten points, but should stick with around 8 to help spread the skills around between people. Just let me know your name and if you choose to have a custom profession name. All of this can be adjusted later, so it's no big deal. In fact the expedition requires women, so we could always just go with what we have now and add more later with migrants show up. We'll need a couple miners, so if we have the space we can just have the empty spots peasants with such tasks. I think we should stick with Idlethumb names so not to get confusing, but feel free to create a variation. Ex: Gimili FatCat I used this for a last name generator: http://cbpye.net/dwarfname.php And even if you don't play and want a dwarf and there is room, I'm happy to add ya(though you can't chose your profession as a migrant, if you have a preference we can always wait for an available spot. I think it would be hilarious to have an entire fortress with custom names of everyone here(granted its some work for something semi useless, so no promises, lol)
-
I'm fine with that since the main quest of Dragons Age was shit. I bought it during the steam sale but wont be able to play it until fall, bleh.
-
Well it would be cool if we could have a place that wont get too cluttered for posting and then just keep a discussion thread going(this one I assume) Might just hold off on this since I think a lot of the people that wanted to join in are a bit mia at the moment, and it'd be cool to start with all the expedition dwarves representations of real people. But we'll see.
-
ohhhhh, so you guys dont even have enough range to cross the other lines yet? I was thinking it would be a weird strategy but unexpected to do that at the start, but if you can't even this is a really strange game set up, just the massive shit storm in the middle soon will be hilarious

Does anyone have any suggestions how we can document the progress for the outside world?(blog?) Should we come up with a standardize method of relaying information( I think its neat to list notable dwarfs in case something awesome happens to them later on) Any suggestions for starting region?(lush, desert, terrifying, dangerous, etc) Also, if you want to be part of the original expedition(probably too many people to fit in the original) just list your Dwarf Name and Profession and secondary skill. First come first serve; all subsequent dwarves will arrive as migrants when you take on the task of administration(meaning you will have to choose a migrant or a dwarf to be you, if you so want to participate like that, I don't think its a requirement) I like to randomize expedition and fortress names, however if anyone has suggestions let me know. Like if you really want the word Wizard to show up or something, hehe. One last thing; I tend to do extremes, but for this since I'm starting, I will be the most even handed in the set up, just not create anything too gonzo, I can't guarantee that for my second term

Congrats Dibs(late) Yeah it was weird game, I mean I think it was the most uneventful, unexciting one I've ever played. I think if we could have taken the actives of Puffins and Wizards we would have had a full cool game. I stopped playing when everyone went AI, but then started up when Wizards was finishing up. I used Puffins as an experiment; which totally failed due to teh speed of the game, though I am absolutely sure this would work in a faster game. I was playing prison rules, where I take everything I had from the first second and send it hurling towards the closest enemy. The problem is that took days. But it still worked I capture Blues core worlds and had him chasing me down for a few stars until I met my end. I was far behind in star count at that point but I figured the disruption to his economy, science and industry that early would have screwed him. Not so much. We basically duked it out for the rest of the game in a cluster of stars on our border then it turned cold. We just sent fleets and fleets and fleets towards two stars defending, no one ever making the first move. It wasn't until dibs got really powerful from what Im assuming is just the lack of opposition near him, though he did follow Jennoa until the ends of the galaxy(literally right into my territory, which, for a small civilization is pretty impressive on Jennoas part since he had to fight his way through Mareks territory.. who pretty much had just an obscene amount of stockpile on every star(for that stage of the game) that things turned. Blue was trading with Dibs, so I started trading with dibs to get weapons, this helped the stalemate but also helped me get an edge on the Ai around me, so I took FAT CATs territory and some of Diumms that helped at least keep me in the game a bit longer. It's a shame though that my initial plan didn't work and that Marek with MIA, we were neighbors and both squids, I really wanted to have an awesome alliance with him to enact a Squidining across the galaxy, but it never was to be. And it was so perfect that Blue was a space turtle, because we had three aquatic races right next to each other and squids are a natural enemy of the turtle(in my head anyway) I also had Diumm as a potential ally since he was a spider like race which are kind of like tentacles! Ah well, missed opportunity there. Also Blue. WHO THE HELL IS BLUE?!(Thunderpeel?) He would not talk, not once until the very end when I asked to call off the cold war to prepare for Dibs. Then he sent one message, thats it. I swore he was sophisticated AI, thats why I didn't feel so bad not communicating with him after initial contact and just trying to fight. But he was obviously a player, but WHO WAS HE? That mystery alone drove me nuts. PS: Does anyone know what happened to Wurtzi? he dropped out of both games and he was clearly in the lead in Puffins, I don't think I've seen him post either. I was hoping to make amends this game since I royally screwed him in the first one.

If it makes you feel better(which you probably know) they've been trying this since 1999(or at least that was the earliest time I heard it mentioned) I think in any form, I don;t think a live action akira would be the way to go, for some reason my brain can only comprehend a horrible hollywood version or a lower budget japanese greenscreen thing. Both of those I don't need.

You have a problem with it being pg-13 when they are setting it in neo newyork and having it revolve around 2 white guys in their middle thirties? Pg-13 is the least of it's problems.
-
Cool Nowak, didn't know that existed! Also never mind about the screenshot, folks, someone was nice enough to have a super huge monitor and do it all at once.
-
Hey, once you guys have taken at least three stars would it be possible to get sent a screenshot of the mini map for a bunch of you and I'll try to composite one together in order to hide the identities? Thanks!

Wow, with as much diversity as this game offers thats kind of amazing we found exactly the same thing(not the exact same place) within the same time frame. -

HA, dibs! I found a similar thing last night! Only my dwarf(and her kid) were mining straight down near a river because I was going to make some sort of water pump system and she opened up on the cavern literally right on the edge of a cliff, if she had mined one square over she would have fell to her death like 3 levels below. It looks like there were wondrous gems and plans down there though. -
Boy, out of all the features I think Neptune's Pride should incorporate, I'm now dying for a freaking Spectator Mode, and if they do add it, they don't charge us for it(or much anyway, lol)

Well I think I know what I am doing enough not to get into anything crazy, however I have some pretty interesting luck, so who knows. I don't mind who goes first, though considering I'm off on the 29ths, I figured if I could go first then I probably wont miss any turns by the time I come up again. Also, btw, who is still in?

Well they can be just generalities, SGP, like whats going on, are they doing well, are they not, who are they obviously in conflict with, propaganda, etc... With that said, I should post a list.... the twitter accounts are actually a pretty good idea compared to just sending messages through me, hehe. But yeah, if anyone sets anything up with their alias just forward it to me and I'll post it on the site to keep the animosity. Also I really curious what the spiral galaxy feels like when playing.
