Well I did neither, I got alpha protocol and found that it doesn't work any which way on y system without a lot of uninstalling and reinstalling to maybe get it to run... so I'll put a pin on that itch for awhile. Capsized looks alright, but just doesn't gel for me. Ah well, back to trying to love civ 5, so maybe I'll just go play civ 4.

Magicka is under $5 too, so I might spring for it just to finally try some wizard action.

Im really holding out that it's WIP and they won't be barking so often and a little more variety in the released version. Im basing my hope on nothing.

You obviously never saw Bullet, it's just like that.

The internet hating something and sales are two different things, they are ok with the sales, so the internet can keep on hating drm and everything else; who gives a shit? The Drm sounds like crap; when they make money, pissing off people isn't good either, but they are a company that wants to make money so they can make more awesome games it's a really hard argument to make.

Yeah good news, but makes the Driver thing even more bizarre.

Hehehe, I was just thinking that Raff. I remember seeing something like this and possibly even hearing the thumbs talk about it, which seem like a life time ago. My xbox doesn't even work now, it's been that long, so sad to know I might miss this.

I kind of knew this wasn't a populous, as I likened it to Populous 3... Darwinia seems like a fair comparison from what I've seen to; basically your tasked a very specific set of instructions and a pretty specific way to execute them. What baffles me is the technology behind this game. Is it being put to use? Sort of, but it seems like it was built for the purpose of a really amazing sandbox god game. At ubisofts internal gdc I was able to see some of the tech docs and the systems going on in the engines and it's really really amazing so I am hoping someone there picks the engine up and develops the title I've been waiting for. With that said, I'm still excited to play Dust.

GDC 2011: The Idle Thumbs Conf Grenade: Games Kasavin
Murdoc replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
I went through all the casts again and arrived at the last one and latched on to something... the failed games talk at GDC. The guys were talking about a failed giant robot game so I looked it up and apparently it was retooled and released as a flash game: http://2dboy.com/RobotAndTheCities/ Unfortunately, it's still not fun and the ambitious title that was described by the Thumbs isn't really there, that I can see. For some reason I was imagining a playing one of the disasters in a sim city game more than this. Or maybe they were just imagining the connection to it having some sort of procedural rebuilding of civilization; either way, I want the game discussed. -
Can I choose both 1 and 3?

Season 1 is great, Season 2 turns into a parody of a soap opera, but theres a lot of good things in there, especially at the end. After that go watch Fire walk With Me, it's the Twin Peaks prequel movie that pretty much removes all the endearing goofiness the show offered, which is a shame, but then Lynch's up the rest to the max for fucked up goodness. God damn, I want Lynch to do a Twin Peaks mini series, movie, whatever right now, Coops at the right age and everything!

I haven't watched the end of BSG, just got to the point where he was playing a messiah, but I had to agree, they tried making him Marx for awhile(and I was pretty giddy with that) then immediately changed him to jesus the next season over... so I think there was a bit of trial and error going on.

Also the game is gorgeous and looked like blurry crap on that quicklook, so this is PC all the way.

Maybe not the new Pixar that seems to just churn out endless sequels that are fairly crappy, but still better then anyone out there, sadly.

Yeah this was a pretty by the numbers kind of game; Im trying to figure out what map type would reinforce diplomacy, in the end it's probably just needed more people. I will say though, right around the middle I thought of just out right attacking ens to upset the shift going in your direction just to see what Wubbles would do. Didn't want to seem like a dick, just thought it would add something unexpected, hehe. But then figured that both him or tobacco would just gobble me up, you'd get your stars back pretty quickly and things would have just played out just the same.

Yeah I agree I can't speak to it for certain without trying it, but I really have to disagree about art direction and jankiness being personal taste; not to say someone cant have an opinion about it either way, but theres just some poor art in there and decisions that were made with the way it handles that just looks shit. Maybe you like shit, that's fine(not being insulting, some people are just more accepting towards crappy gameplay) but I don't think jankiness was a particular choice the developers did, it screams inexperience and/or time, so while I may like it as much as you do, I still think a consensus would be its sloppy and not good. EDIT: I watched all of the quick look and take back a few of my statements. I still dont think it looks good or plays well, but it appears to be more of an execution problem then a design/concept goals.

I dunno I like the funamentals, the combat was always basic, but I liked that, and the whole sending ships out and not being able to contact them is a huge draw for me rather then a more complicated system of mid flight battles. I think after all this time, the fun factor came from diplomacy, but it seems to happen less and less now that everyones figure out the game and are just relying mostly on pure mechanics, which don't stand the test of time. Maybe a Neptunes Pride 2 is in order to expand on the mechanics and encourage more diplomacy which made the initial game fun.

I'm starting to think the new thing is just make your game crazy and people will forgive that it's a shitty game. I love crazy as much as the next guy, and if miffy says its cool, I guess, but immediately the fundamental things I look for in a game I can see are just plain shit (jankiness, art direction) For some reason I want to compare it to Xenoclash(even though the game play is completely different) it's an example of something that was crazy, but had good gameplay and great art direction.
-
Yeah, its a shame, maybe Blight was doing better, but Im not much of a fan of that as I am Neptune.
-
yeah that's actually one thing I'm a little disappointed in with this game, is there was never any upgrades or add ons, so many little things that came up when playing regularly that could be tweaked or added... like after having zero stars you can just watch a game, or just allowing spectators.
-
I think the cold war just turned hot.
-
Ive never seen that game before, miffy, it looks cool too, so erm, less credit to Swindle now, hehehe.
-
Never played a game by them, though I am aware of their existence, but I just wanted to say I really like the look they went for here. Glad to see a polished looking indy game that isn't in shadow, a retro throwback, or complete garbage.

Not sure what it's like now, but the PC release when it came out was completely broken.
