It won me over, I know that. Is anyone getting a Thief 3 vibe from this whole thing though? Just the overall mission structure, hub world, tone, and various other bits of gameplay. I mean it's good news for Thief 4 I guess since they've already had a crack at something similar, but I dunno, something just isn't sitting well with me. Ok, the character animation could possible be worse than anything I've seen in a Bethseda RPG and the models aren't good either. And yes the game feels like an old school PC game that probably was released 2-4 years ago, but that isn't whats bugging me, it's something else I can't quite place. The world fiction seems interesting, the designs aren't too bad, but maybe it's the fact that they are all too close to modern day things that it falls under the trap of being a bit generic. It's cyberpunk, but not far enough in terms of art direction, it feels a little cheap in parts where it's just an every day design with a decal slapped on to it to make it "futurey". Suppose it's a fine line, but something just isn't sucking me in as much as it should like a Farcry 2 would/did. So it might be the art direction is just too moderate to draw me completely in.

Not a movie, but if you haven't seen The Thick of It, check it out, it's sort of the tone of the original Office.

I dunno, the way the prince was after that hot princess in SoT was pretty gay.

They used the Darksiders engine, so I kind of always made the connection between that combat and Space Marine... only with guns. An offhand glance it looks like it would feel similar, so not sure if you guys have played it could comment.

It was mostly being raped through a hole within 5 minutes by a robot and knowing that I was an awesome fps player but not doing any kind of damage to the enemies. With that said, the world has moved on and Im a little more used to the rpg/fps thing now. I just watched the rest of the deus ex 1 quicklook and a flood of memories came back, they had the exact same problem I did in the exact same spot, so now I dont feel so bad. I think I might be ready for this game finally, I'm going in... later tonight or sometime on the weekend. Thanks Gwar, I had nothing against the story/setting since I saw only 5 minutes of it, I love cyberpunk, I mildly like stealth games, I like rpgs, so really this should be good, if not I'll bitch about it for 4 pages later. edit: 10 seconds into it, first response "nice environments, crappy character lip sync.... GAHHHH swimmy mouse" 15 seconds(minus the 8 minutes of cut scenes) I had to punch in numbers that a guy just told me into a keypad. sold.

Question: I hate the first 2, should I play this? It looks cool, it was always a series I *should* like, I'm on the fence here. Would love to hear first impressions from people since I trust most of you to give a pretty balanced comment.

I heard the same thing on Giant Bomb, Sno and was surprised, because thats exactly what happened to me... twice. Once when it came out and once when I bought that pack on Steam. Tried it, played it for less than 20 minutes, quite. Now I wonder if I should give it a third try and just run through the first level, on the other hand, I can just play a new one soon. edit: oh the new one is out tomorrow, neat, I thought it was September or something later.

Never did play Warrior Within, but interested in finding out the gameplay was actually good and the platforming stuff sounds like something I'd want to play... just cant get over everything else to do it. Also, I'm not 100% sure, but the link from that review going to the writers sit, it might be an ironic blog to poke fun of the bro... at least that's my hope.

A little more post apocalyptic than the original concept, which is a bit disappointing, but, hey, its still getting made so here's hoping its good... also hope it doesn't turn into a hobo murder simulator like that one xbox game.
-
Jesus, ok, yeah, thanks for that, way worse than I thought.

So I guess this came out yesterday, I had forgotten. I know what I am in for, I know what to expect, I know that I'll only play it for like 30 minutes and go "wished it was populous +" or something... can anyone talk me out of buying it knowing full well its not the game I want?
-
I remember trying to watch it in highschool and didn't get through it. All these years I suspected maybe I just didnt "get it" since I dont remember anything about it. I'll take your comments to know I was right the first time, hehe.

Sign me up for art support! I bet it would be awesome, hehehe.

Yeah, so the sequel sounds like what this movie really should have had rather than the super-human apes escaping Frisco. But yeah, over all, I liked most of it enough that'll I root for another one.

Yeah, I could not get into the witcher, one part combat, other part in the fiction/characters completely not clicking with me. I tried the Witcher 2, the combat seemed better but still semi impossible to play to me and the fiction is pretty much the same. I appreciate the production value and really want to like the game, but I don't get it, if Witcher 1 didn't win me over and then very little time I tried Witcher 2 didn't click, I'm pretty sure this game just isn't for me.

I'm not sure if I should recommend Rise of the Planet of the Apes... I usually really dislike summer blockbusters and absolute hate remakes/reimagining of favorite childhood films. Firstly, I loved the old planet of the apes movies, no matter how cheesy the got. Conquest of the Planet of the Apes still remains one of my favorites and from the description that's what I figured where Rise was taking it's notes from. On one hand Rise pretty much stayed true to the important bits of the fiction, but lost any sort of context or statement Conquest had. Granted it was cheesily heavy handed in the 1970's version, but at least it tried to give a basic premise a higher purpose. Rise doesn't really attempt any of this and gets into a lot of cliched moments. But boy, do I love the parts where the apes are interacting with each other and forming an evolved society, or what have you. It's just a shame this isn't the core of the film and happens over a couple of days. Now on the other hand is the awful, awful, cringe worthy fan pandering of classic one liners from the first planet of the apes and makes the movie unwatchable when they crop up every 30 minutes. It's really poorly done, didn't need to be there, and just... barf. For a cg summer movie that is a reboot of a franchise I like, it could have be worse, I enjoyed it though, but wanted a movie that tried to achieve a little more about revolution, equality, or some sort of social commentary that is relevant today, or not, since it didn't have any comment. On the up side, the premise the director wants for a sequel does sound like the movie I was hoping for in this, so with any luck it'll do well enough so he can make it.

Ill give it another few shots when Im not so grumpy, I just have an irritation to narration, especially when they sound like they are talking down to a child(which may or may not be the case here, I just dont like narrators, lol)
-
Yeah I really got that feeling too, played it once, kind of felt insulted by the narration and didn't try another play through, though I can probably take a unsurprising wild guess as to what happens if I did things differently.

Finally tried this for a bit of time... am I missing something, but how is this related to civ? Not to nay say everything, Im just not getting it. 1. I'm no a civilization 2. I'm a town that can build stuff whose sole purpose is to harvest x 3. I spend x to spend on tech trees or army 4. I buy armies 5. I guess the social stuff adds some where you can vote for things and attack other people... might be the game Im in, but there's basically a super power that is just raping everyone so its best not to join one. Theres something to this, but I dunno, it seems like Im just logging in, clicking harvest, clicking on a new research and doing it all again the next day.

Just going to throw this up now and slowly collect people for the long wait list, but let's get a 12 person long game going! Who's in? (disclaimer: we may not be starting until fall or whenever we can get 12) get a list going here, not a bad start, 7 more spaces left! 1. Epiclairs 2. Wubbles 3.Me 4.tabacco 5.Speedy Desiato 6.Ens

Not being on Steam isn't a deal breaker, but it hurts. What is a deal breaker was Bad Company 2 on steam burning me. My thoughts of the game aside, it's that it used EA server b.s for everything else. Trying to get into a game with my friends from steam and connect to things was just a massive head ache. The whole thing was a PoS and voice chat was completely broken.

I still haven't played this, its going to take a lot for me to hook up the xbox again, I just can't do it, despite some of these great arcade games. But just had a question, Ive seen the comparison more than once to Shadow Complex... I didn't play that either, but I thought Shadow Complex was basically metroid or did it do something so different the comparison to SC instead of metroid is more warranted?

Wishful thinking, but what are the chances of having another IdleThumbs panel at Pax Prime this year? I really only went last year for the thumbs and would do it again if there'll be another panel. Probably doubtful though.

Robotrek, nailed it. Thanks sno!

Ok have another one, it may be well known, it may not be, It was a snes jrpg that I remember not being very fun, but the hook was you were a young inventor and made robots. I can only remember the first bit of the game where you take over your inventor mentors lab and there were books to "read' that increased you skill in making robots.
