I like the north euro accents going on for some of them(I'm guess those are nords?) but then their children all sound american... which I interpret as they are growing up in imperial run skyrim? But I dunno, seems more spotty then deliberate. I just remember in morrowind they type of voices matched the races better. And yeah I can see the menus would lend itself to a control better.

Yeah I'll give that a shot, thanks Irish! Agreed Cigol. I love the world so far despite some of the "this could have been higher res moments. And the game is enjoyable and I know its big and I know this stuff is amazingly hard to do and they do it really well, but they didn't really seem to up their game on some of the stuff that is important to me. Which is fair, but the dialog system, npc interaction, voice acting(at least have the different races sound different, stuff like that) and combat could have used a once over, but whatever, it's still a neat game. menus are pretty horrible though, it took me 10 minutes to figure out how to get out of looting a corpse the first time.

Havent played much, but so far it's neat, pretty much feels like Oblivion. The same typical terrible looking NPCs and animation, but they realyl did a good job on the main character presets and animation; which is a shame because I want to play it 3rd person, but it just doesn't lend itself to that very well. Im getting this sound problem in a lot of these games and wondering if anyone can clue me in on it; I cant hear people talking unless I turn left or right... pretty much point my ear to them. This is pretty annoying especially when you get in a conversation and I can't turn my head. Does it have something to do with surround sound or something? I'm on a temp computer so I don't really know how its set up.

People actually watch shit like this?
-
Im still hoping they drop everything about the narrative and just make it a period game.
-
Yeah probably won't happen, the Housers don't like fantasy and think anything without guns is considered fantasy. But I agree, I'd love to see actual period games with a budget(RDR is a good example, Asscreed is a good example gone bad, so yeah... different historical periods within a stronger realm of plausibility and maybe willing to teach me something.)

12 hours of Skyrim on Giant Bomb? Thats not good for me... I've gotten into the habit of not playing games this year, but just watching people(particularly GB) play games. I am looking forward too Skyrim, but already have reservations, but now I know I can watch someone play it for 12 hours, I think this might be game over to me. Not to side track the thread, but has anyone fell into the gaming rut? I have before but it's usually with one game, but never not playing any games. The only one I've stuck with this year was civ5 and it wasn't anything crazy. I've had ico/sotc and gears of war 2 just sitting here and I never feel like playing them.

What's weird is I think this talk just sold SaintsRow 3 to me.
-
Yeah I think the satire in 4 was the best of the series. There will always be the low brow stuff like FU or what have you, but for a non-American that always played towards the satire.
-
Ah, I should probably play Arhkam City, I just really didn't like that first game for entirely personal reasons that I wont defend.
-
Then I'll call it perceived theme. They did layer it on pretty well throughout the game even if it wasn't what it was about most of the time, then couple that with the satirical newyork, I like to think it was the theme of the game.
-
Was it Nikos moment to moment conversations or actions that made GTA 4 great or was it the theme of immigrant coming for the American dream, about trying to leave a past behind him? I wont defend anything in GTA4, but the themes and character motives were pretty god damn great.

I honestly don't believe you, maybe its because I hated the first batman whatever it was, or maybe its because I know just from reading arkham city doesn't try to model a living, breathing city in the modern world, but I don't accept what you just said. Mission structure sounds interesting, but from my outside standpoint they are two very different games. That is not to defend rockstars classic mission structure as I do agree it's time for them to change on that, because its getting a little old.

Hard to match profound writing and killing 1000 cops over 100 hours of gameplay. Im personally a big fan of Rockstars dialog writing and GTAIV's premise and character arch was pretty fantastic. Lost and the Damned was another fantastic story that matched tv level of writing. Not sold on the voice actor of 5, but interested, Im curious if interaction and dealing with his family is a good part of the game. I like the idea you're a father and husband within a heroic setting(or villainous one in this case) and how it would effect the relationships of a normal persons life rather then your super solider x with no attachments to anything and your actions have no consequences on the day to day lives of the character.

I really hope so but he makes a good point about the reasons behind it too. It just feels a bit unnatural to me, but its minor.

Yeah, I like the style, I like the destruction and enemies, but the shooting could be a little snappier. The face a direction and shoot was impossible and the hold shoot down then move is works and is fun, but weird and disjointed. It's alpha and not sure that shooting was so deliberate its their vision or they are trying something new and will figure out how to make it work or scrap it all together... I guess we'll just wait and see. Also, when did voxels come to mean cube style? Am I crazy or did I used to play old voxel games that weren't cubey? I think the new voxel game=cubes is just as more art direction than technology, isn't? I think it works for this though, its made to feel like an old school pixel game. which they could render the whole screen though(or is that another design decision?) Either way I like it.

Yeah I had mine for what seems like forever, it was in two different builds of mine. So its not like this comes as a surprise. I even had a weird memory last night that I need to check up on, but I think the cpu fan made too much memory and I unplugged it at one point... that was over a year ago. hehe. *** I guess I got mixed up, a 570 was a bit more then I wanted to spend and the nerd in me always wants to just spend a lot more for a little better... which is why I hate upgrading these things because it just snow balls and I never get any use out of it. But ah well. Hopefully will be here next week.

It is if your not a freak of nature.

Oh yeah it is, thats why I mentioned it

Cool, thanks,Patters. I'm sure anything will be better then my old/fried 8800, but just wanted to raise the possibility there could be something better or this is just a dud in the line. On the plus side, I might be able to play Skryim on the PC now.

Howdy all! So my graphics card decided to take a dump last night and wont work. The good thing about this was that was the one component in my computer that needed to be replaced the most. This thread is a couple months old, so I am sure the standards have already changed(maybe?) But could anyone recommend a good card these days for not a lot of cash. Looking to spend $250-$300(Canadian), but preferably under, don't mind going a little over. I just don't want to spend top dollar. Looking at the Geforce 570s, but there's few reviews on the site I usually buy from. Seems like everyone is recommending Radeons right now... is that right? I was never in the ATI camp, always went with Nvidia.

I swore in GTA 4 during some specific chase missions they scewed the driving mechanics, especially earlier. I know those crappy cars at the start handle like shit, but during a couple missions where you are chasing after someone, they felt like they handled way worse. Did you see the difference between GTA 3 and San Andreas? Aging hardware aside, we're starting to see some of the best games of this generation because everyone is pushing the damn things to the limit and they pulled off a huge jump between those 2 games on the ps2, I'd expect seeing something similar. Problem is they've put all their money so far in the animation and rendering systems for other games. The facial animation has continually been tweaked since GTA4(lost and the damned, gay tony, red dead, and while LA noire didnt use the engine, they used the same production methods for theirs) so the engine has visually been getting better, just in a subtle way. I'm sure GTA 5 will be an excuse to add all the bells and whistles along with a leap in scope/game play mechanics.

I love these guys, I Kay hope they can make a bigger game again one day. Small projects are creativily cool and I'm happy If their happy, I just hope it's not hard times over there. Rather infuriating that a publisher can blow millions without thinking on some generic peice of shit shoot but won't for a lighthearted creative romp.

We had a pretty good discussion about this stuff last year (I think) http://www.idlethumbs.net/forums/showthread.php?t=7349&highlight=warcraft&page=3 Warcraft has been dead to me since WoW... or maybe around the War3 expansion pack. I didn't really play WoW, but was really anticipating it, but slowly the nonsense just sort of deluded everything and the vibe completely changed. Now, I don't know even know wtf is going on with it, but most of everything I see just makes me roll my eyes. I don't know if Warcraft1/2 were handled better or the fact that they left it so open my imagination filled in the gaps; which I can understand why I'd prefer that over someone else filling that stuff in for me. I liked old Warcraft for the art and vibe, nothing was overly serious and while it might have stuck closer to "ye old medieval fantasy" I rather enjoyed it. I liked the art Metzen was doing at the time too and how it was pretty hilarious that it had a little sprinkle of Heavy Metal vibe to it all... which might have been the start of its actual downfall with the shitty pop culture reference bs. On a slight side note; I started up WoW for 5 minutes a few months ago because, what the hell, I haven't played it since release. It's a lot different and all trolls are Jamaicans and the graphics look really bad. That's my summary of that experience.

Thousands? Millions, actually. Pretty sure I overheard some higher ups say Blur trailers start at 1 mil when we needed some work done for a game. It might have something to do with blurs contract, like if it was included in the game it the publisher may have to pay royalties? Sounds weird, but wouldn't be surprised. *** There was a live action ME3 trailer? ew. Im pretty much ignoring every bit of news from that game and that thought justifies it, hehe.
