  1. Fund Tim Schafer's next game YOURSELF!

Not to mention that a lot of money needs to go into testing, cross platform, trademarking, advertising, and just getting it approved on console networks. I'd say all that alone is half the budget, the rest goes into software licensing, utilities, administration and employee salary. Granted they are sharing it with other projects, but still a bit of the budget goes into keeping the lights on. I'm excited about this and hope they take a few more chances about content and ideas so that it's a little out there.
  2. Happy Action Theater

I love Doublefine, even if I haven't played their recent downloadable stuff. And yes, this game isn't for me, but I loved how they took ubiquitous childhood tropes and made it into a cool looking thing with the kinect. My nephews would get a kick out of this, but on the other hand, we already do these things with our minds, so I dunno. Seems like a sweet thing to have at a party though, young or old.
  3. DOTA 2

Just wanted to nod my head to this as I played the original mod quite a lot back in it's time. I'm not a gamer that remembers strategy, "IP" names or anything like that, so it took a bit to remember what character did what in DOTA, but DOTA 2 is REALLY similar to the original compared to HoN or LoL to the point where you wonder why they bothered beyond the obvious commercial reasons. In original DoTa I was partial to the Necromancer or Lich (can't remember which) that would summon skeletons so was a pretty passive playstyle and it seems like any remake of Dota never includes that character so I'm not quite sure what to make of them. Also, I find the community a bit split, it's not HoN, thank god, but it's not quite LoL either and I have been verbal discouraging any dickishness to promote more friendly, understanding players.
  4. DOTA 2

If you guys get a game going, let me know, I'd be up for it. I liked Dota and I like the look/characters of this, but I don't think I'm in it for the pub games as it seems to be pretty miss and miss for me.
  5. The whole Foxconn thing

Yea agreed. That's the biggest problem is boycotting would work, but as people it's pretty much impossible to do on mass unless it's something we don't care about in the first place. Just look at the companies that supported SOPA. Try boycotting that, it would be literally impossible unless you go live in a cave. What's shitty, and possibly misleading, is I that I saw on the Daily Show that goods like Ipods would cost 23% more if they were manufactured somewhere slightly better. I'm not sure how much better or if that means manufactured in America, but here in British Columbia we already pay nearly that much on any item in taxes. If there was a significant impact on working conditions for 23% more on goods it would be crazy not to. Even if it meant I had to save up longer for tech devices like that... which I guess companies don't want.
  6. Movie/TV recommendations

Aw that sucks to hear. I liked the first and figured a sequel would preform better because they could work out the kinks. Then I saw the trailer and was wary. Will wait for the dvd.
  7. Oblivion

I don't know why I am getting into this, but the Harry Potter story sucks and the world may be derivative but it's a nice whimsical universe that doesn't take itself too seriously, even if the narrative of the books do. All of which I find much more interesting then the majority of the Elder Scrolls fiction.
  8. Star Wars The Old Republic

That's exactly how I found the game in beta, lobotomy. I think what they have made is done well, but the game just isn't for me. I want them to take this content, half the size of the environments and x amount of things to kill and sell it to me as a singleplayer experience. Or just work on a proper kotor sequel.
  9. XCOM returns

Less pleased with that art direction\screenshot.
  10. GTA V

To be fair Claude was a mute...
  11. Paths of Exile (free game)

Looks cool, I'd give it a shot since I love Diablo. In the last few months my excitement for Diablo 3 has dropped for whatever reason (probably from the little things I heard from beta didn't sound appealing) so I'd love something to take its place. Ideally I want a more diablo style dark souls, but I'll give a traditional aRpg a shot too.
  12. Goty.cx 2011

I hate to be a crow in this, but I think 2011 marks the year thatI hate video games. I liked a bunch of stuff that I played, but I wasn't in love or impressed by a single thing. More often than not, I found myself overly bored with nearly everything I touched and slightly angry at a few things. Things this year I think are okay and have neither love nor hate for, which may not be very acceptable because I didn't finish a single game this year either: Skyrim (Looked nice, I had fun, got to a point that all Elder Scroll games do for me, I feel complete and put it down... which means I should have just did the main quest line rather then a bunch of the sides) Voxatron (its cute) LA Noire - Stopped at vice, asshole partner and was getting old. Everything else was too bored to even comment on... maybe I should get a new hobby or something, I feel kind of bad about how this year of gaming went.
  13. Books, books, books...

I finished reading Perelandra today, it's the follow up to Out of the Silent Planet I mentioned earlier. I really enjoyed it, but a few off putting things has left me feeling perplexed to the whole affair. Out of the Silent Planet was great as it told a really touching tale of survival, wonder, and human nature. While it had a little bit of a religious parallel to it, I found it interesting because it was first and foremost science fiction and the similarities between "deities" was just interesting flavor and sort of backed how certain religions came about... but it wasn't the main purpose of the story, it was just there. However, with Peralandra, the main purpose is that it is a religious parable. So much so, they take what was flavor from Out of the Silent Planet and extends it so far where he purposely interchanges the alien words for earthly religious ones... which sort of loses the fantastical, scifi nature of everything. But once you get over that, it's an oddly paced book. It's less full of wonder and much of it is absolutely terrifying and infuriating at times. The majority meat of it is simply a conversation between the earthly visitor(Same character from Silent Planet) and an alien. Eventually a third part joins the conversation and it becomes not so much a debate but a verbal battle... it's really quite incredible. Not to give too much of it a way, but Lewis has way to paint a picture, to be so articulate with words as to put a very precise image into your head that I found my self legitimately nervous or awestruck at times. This just doesn't happen to me often, so I wanted to point out that I cant ever recall where I was actually kind of terrified by a fictional image someone wrote, but there are countless times where it happened in Perelandra. Anyway, overall I am having mixed feelings as it was such an oddly paced book and the religious overtones weren't exactly welcome, as I believe he could have told the same story using the same terminology as the first book and just let the reader interrupt whatever they want. On the other hand the main purpose was a parable, so I guess he wasn't trying to hide anything and just went full hog on this. The next book is That Hideous Strength, which sounds like it gets darker, but I'm really kind of nervous to find out how dark it can go as Perelandra has already illustrated evil well enough for my liking.
  14. Fuck Steve, grats Steve 3.

Scoops was in Boston? I didn't even know that, in which case, So long, Steve! Welcome Back, Steve! There's a game company in Portland? Even if he is freelancing, that's news to me. I really like that city though, so I'm sure he's having fun.
  15. Tribes: Ascend

SIGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. It kind of feels like a tribes game, but god damn do I HATE leveling in a FPS. At least give me the three basic classes to choose from. So far I have not seen place-able turrets, force fields, scanners, cloaking, laptops, and the game mentioned packs, but no idea where those are so I can at least spice up my one fing class until I play 10 hours(exaggeration...?) a bit. Very disappointed that I'm old. edit: there are a lot of things I can vaugely remember wanting in Tribes 1-2 that aren't here, but nothing else seemed to have replaced it except some modernization of the fps and payment model(gold, tokens? xp?) Which is strange because Im sure Global Agenda had a lot of the neat things I wanted for Tribes 1-2 that they could have used for this... somehow, flawed as it was, Global Agenda felt more like what I would want Tribes to be today then Ascend.
  16. The Last of Us

I don't know anything about twilight beyond Trailers. But all paranormal things aside isn't it weird some really old dude, that just happens to look young goes to high school and wants to bang highschool chicks? Isn't that weird to anyone reading it since apparently there is a whole abstinence theme going on? *** Also, apparently this isn't a zombie game, they're infected which are clearly different to some people :/ Also all the combat is meaningful in that trailer. Like the zombie, I mean infected is an infected and wants to kill that guy for his sweet flesh and that guy has to kill the infected so he can keep it. Meaningful. It reminds me of that time in GTA4 where nikko wanted that really nice car so he tried to kill the owner and the owner disagreed and ran away, so nikko got the car and ran him over anyway just in case he went to the cops. Meaningful. I hate to be this cynical but there's that interview out with someone from naughtydog reputing what people are saying, but the two points I took away from above are just silly. It's a zombie game where you kill zombies. Other things will most likely be going on and I'm sure it will be well crafted, but own up to what you game is, naughty dog.
  17. The Last of Us

Usually takes games a few years to catch up to the movie fads, so since we still haven't gotten passed zombie movies, we'll need to go through vampires for a few years until we get to super heroes. Twilight is considered scifi? jesus.
  18. The Last of Us

so sick of zombies/infected. I'm done and have had enough, 90% of the time(I dont know the real number) its either army dudes or zombies.
  19. Movie/TV recommendations

Those are two of my favorite movies, not in terms of watchability but of notable lead roles, interesting ideas, and complete wtf moments. Two movies I would love to see try to get a do over but sensible, but not boring sensible directors because both those movies I believe have something there to be awesome.
  20. Saint's Row The Third

I decided to pick this up as some of the ideas sounded pretty unique to a game and I have mixed thoughts. It feels a bit sloppy all around, like if some of the missions were better executed I'd be having more fun since I some of the highlight moments have a really fun idea behind them. Pretty glad something like this exists, but I can't help think if they dropped trying to make jokes and just executed on their humorous ideas it would be a better presentation. The open world side missions are fun once or twice, but get pretty old quickly. Causing havok doesn't seem exciting as it does in GTA because the world is already over the top and chaotic along with the feeling of being overpowered from day one. The missions don't feel connected very well and the progression of what main story I have done seems pretty far between and not very fluid at all. I know I'm not playing for the story, but I really like their main missions the most, so having them connect and flow together a bit better would be nice. Also I am playing with zombie voice which makes the dialog less bad and the jokes less obvious, but I cannot imagine how the game plays out with an actual coherent protagonist as I am sure the game would be a lot harder to stomach. I really like the over-the-top world and ideas in this though, I look forward to future sequels to see where it goes because right now it feels like an odd middle ground of their gangsta origins and crazy world of super villains. Maybe its just me, but it seems like the game would be more entertaining if it went into that crazy, campy, super villain territory more then trying to stick with a gang template. But with that in mind, I've already kind of done that, which is just my choice, which is neat. I made a metallic gold skinned character from the get go and just playing the evolution of this knob-bag as his outfits gets more crazy and the vehicle customization all fits a the gold theme, so it is pretty amusing, so that option already sort of exists. So like it, but kind of bored outside the main missions and wished most of them were better polished with some flow between them.... which is pretty vague and a lot to ask for. Still amazed some of these ideas are in a commercial product, so just for that
  21. Neptune's Bountiful Pride 6!

I think we need a Neptune's Pride counselor to add some excitement back into it. I wonder if an agreed upon set of rules might add some intrigue to the game, or something along the lines of a murder mystery game, where players are assigned roles/characteristics and need to stick to them; that could add some interest through the whole thing. Or we just give up. I really like it and want to like it as much as I did before though, so just brainstorming here.
  22. Neptune's Bountiful Pride 6!

Yeah, it was a fun game, but fell apart at the end. I think the imbalance of AI players at the start ensured a win for you Ens, not that you didn't play well. Also, I think Neptune's Pride is in need for a 2.0 with more mechanics, because what really made the game great was the fun you created through diplomacy and no one is buying into it anymore. Its turned into a Prisoners Agreement of sorts where if you simply don't play along with the BS someone is sending you, it relies solely on the mechanics and nothing will go wrong. I was trying to play people, but it just didn't happen and even tried getting the eastern side of the map to rally together and fight your massive empire, which would have been fun, but it wasn't happening. So really more game mechanics to keep people interested in new ways to support trust\deception would be a lot of fun.
  23. Tribes: Ascend

Damn the beta is going on? How dare the devs not give me a key! Ah well, hope it's awesome.
  24. V The Elder Scrolls

Being a vampire ended my game in Oblivion, it was a real downer and the cure was impossible. I didn't want to become a werewolf in Skyrim but did. So far, I can completely ignore it because the drawback is minor and being one isn't great... I just wanted to see the quest line keep going. So far... I could have done without it.
  25. V The Elder Scrolls

I was thinking the same thing, in fact in one of my original posts I thought he was from New Jersey, but after more conversations with him it's not quite that. *** WEll that giant bomb video at least answers the question of "Is this supposed to happen when a giant hits" I was out looking for a mammoth tusk and started to go back home because there is no way I am killing one of those at my level. Just then a dead one fell out of the sky and landed right in front of me... I guess he got too close to the nearby giants.
