The problem being is there's probably dozen, hundreds, or even thousands of these implications and 99% of the time the person placing these props are not aware of it, have a million other things to worry about, or don't care. There is also budget and time restraints to everything too, as youmeyou pointed out...and may I add Space Asshole 1's rocket launcher was pretty god damn awesome too. So yeah, it is an issue and if the developer or employee is too lazy, dumb, or doesn't care it sucks. I'd go out on a limb and say its usually the first two examples followed by budget(money and time). But if we wanted to make a curve graph of video games from 2000 to now having this problem, I think developers have been improving this and as technology increased more problems have risen just as much as they have been solved. I also like the idea of bring this up again since we may have plateaued on the issue, like we came up with accepted tropes and no one is doing much about changing it. With that said, there are a ton of other issues to not break the reality of the game that haven't been touched since early 2000.

video games. Seriously though, I think a lot of developers try to avoid stuff like that, but at the end of the day it's an accepted trope for both developer and player, even if it breaks a bit of the reality of it. But the same could be said in any game that gives you a rocket launcher, in which you can argue, why can't I just make my own door? The answer? video games.

Yeah I was always confused by Max Payne 2 because of the actor switch. They got a guy named Timothy Gibbs to play him and I just interpreted as an older max, like 35-45... which wasn't the case, which is kind of a shame, because I thought that was a neat idea... then it happened for MP3. Anyway, the first concept image of max that was released for MP3 was based on Timothy Gibbs, it's basically a paint over, other ones they used a stand in model for the body, then eventually settled on using James Mcaffery as a starting point for the face because he was the voice actor. Though I'm sure there are still articles from way back when that Mcaffery pulled a Niko by slamming Rockstar about royalties which is why it took so long to announce he was going to do the voice because I guess it was hard to strike a deal with the bad blood. I haven't played the final release yet, curious to see what it's like, watching a friend try to run through it, it seemed hard as fuck. The cover and bullet time(shoot/dodge) mechanics were always at odds and it looks like cover eventually won the struggle, which is a shame, because this game is a Euphoria poster child of fucking awesome events when you jump around into things. Again, haven't tried it myself, but I think people are so use to seeing cover they think they have to do it, when in reality you kind of have to make your own fun with bullet time by running around, not worrying about ammo, and just painting the screen with slow mo bullets and crazy jumps. Also very disappointing (Just like I was with Red Dead and crashing horses) that when Max jumps into people... at least the couple of occurrences I saw, he doesn't roll them over. I know that used to be in there, which kind of made things easy to knock people down then shoot them, so it may have been a tuning thing or a performance thing.

I figured the distance between me and teal would have lasted awhile, but I guess plans were a foot to kill that, I just thought it would take wayyyyyy longer. I'm just as surprised, but looking at the mini map, I'm out. It's all good, just very surprised actually, I'm not sure a constant internet connection would have helped, but I really should have done a better job at communicating the first day rather than let forces build around me... I just figured I could go unnoticed.

This was literally the shortest game of NP pride I ever played, lol. So, rule of thumb for the future, always have an internet connection and watch/communicate constantly. My plan was just to casually play and just not get noticed for awhile... instead the opposite happened, hehehe.

Idle Thumbs Progresscast #12: The Progresscast Within
Murdoc replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
hey Jake, What were those sounds you were playing at the end from? Something about computer and business theme for something... thx. -
This is what I get for ignoring all the news on this because I didn't want to anticipate it for the last 3....5 years. I had no idea it was coming out this year, let alone tomorrow. shit.

Just moved, so no PC. I'm leeching Internet from the cafe below me though. I will say with limited Internet and no PC it really forces me out of the house, which is pretty nice. Especially when I still don't know the city or anyone in it. I think I'll see how long I can last like this, even when the pc shows up. Anyway, sure sucks for my fledgling empire though.

I forgot NP doesn't work on iPhone.... So weekday moves only for me unless I I find a nearby Internet cafe to blast into at 5am and check tower how things are going. More the reason to start working on a spiritual successor of NP for iTunes.

They had that leaked proof of concept video that was around e3 a few years ago. It's still on YouTube and looks pretty killer. It was for an iteration of the game that was probably scrapped at this point but looked like a fantastic idea so hopefully it doesn't go too far in a different direction.

Wow, that was weird. It has begun!

The Cave: Ron Gilbert's Double Fine Game (A Tim Schafer Production) (Not Double Fine Adventure)
Murdoc replied to Nappi's topic in Video Gaming
Like the art style so far, hope it carries over into the game... and its DoubleFine so it most likely will. -
http://www.shacknews.com/article/73748/assassins-creed-3-first-gameplay-trailer-debuts A crap, now I'm going to have to buy it. I didn't really want to support the series because of the dumb narrative, but that just looks great.
-
Yeah the first games are the ones where I'd lose sleep, I think after awhile you just start to chill out, but just as enjoyable.
-
It's all cool AteBit, sounds like a hassle and sure no one minds waiting, or maybe they do and will just wait anyway to annihilate your civilization.

someones missing....

Okay, so got the down low from a friend of a friend. The game has been in production for freaking ever, has gone through a dozen changes and is lead up by some ex Mythic people who wanted to make DAOC 2... which isn't a bad idea. So, yeah, it is what it is at this point.

I will second that, nothing what I hoped for, but everything I pretty much expected. Ah well, it's not for me, someone will probably like it. edit: Actually let me add my 2cents about the art. It's bland. Not in the same way every Elder Scrolls game has that generic Tolkienesq quality to it, but in the way of modern(1990s+) fantasy art has gone. Whatever stylization you want to justify for your game, the actual designs and colour palette doesn't relate to established fiction for either Skyrim or Morrowind. Instead it has that uninformed, budgety, mmo look to it.
-
Yeah, bernie, we went through all of them. They're good, but not quite the same. Jupiters Folly seems more like a co-op kind of thing and when we played I don't think anyone even got into a scuffle, so it was a bit bland. Dibs might be the only one that can up the count, but I'm not totally sure about that.
-
Apparently I forgot how Neptunes Pride games work and we should have started this days ago if we wanted to actually get it going today. Also turns out I don't have enough credits left...so, delay of game until we can sort this out. Edit: Dibs was kind enough to sponsor us a game so it's on. E-mail is sent to everyone. I'll join on Monday morning PST to start it off and let everyone have the weekend off.

We said that with Biowares MMO... which is pretty much why I'll be skeptical about this. Honestly the saving the whole world thing in Elder Scrolls has been the LEAST interesting part of their games, so there might be hope.
-
As long as it's an Elder Scrolls games + online, rather then whatever cookie cutter mmo with an elder scrolls art theme applied to it, I'd be okay with. Honestly though the Elders Scroll universe is pretty uninteresting, so its really the fidelity of the combat, some of the quests, and the immersion of the world I enjoy from it... I don't expect that to be applied to the same degree as an mmo, so really I'll just wait for the next sp.

Congrats Scoops! Sounds like a fun opportunity.

I liked Fire Walk With Me... they took out a lot of the goofy charm the tv series had and really just showed the awful fucked up life of Laura Palmer. They talked about it and it was gruesome in the series, but Fire Walk With Me really just took it to places tv wouldn't allow for the time. Also, the little bits of the FBI at the start were great and could really be expanded on. I loved Twin Peaks series one and think it was coming around by the end of series two. If Lynch wasn't so god damn brilliant, I'd like him to revisit it while the cast is still age appropriate. *** Also second for Kings, I think they rushed the last episodes and took it somewhere it intended too but too quickly(Much like Carnivale) but it was a really cool show that had a lot of political commentary. Not to mention they managed to do Ian McShane's dialog in a bit of iambic pentameter which he delivers like a champ. It was also used in Deadwood, but with a lot of cursing and gives it that royalty/Shakespeare tone.
