After a Dwarf Fortress comparison I had to start this up, no thoughts on it yet, but the first message that popped up was this: The wizard has been killed by the crew! The Space Wizards Federation has been taught a lesson they will not soon forget!

I can't help but thing there is a larger "game" here that I can't figure out, but I really enjoyed the ride. Super cute world, had a great experience through my first play last night. Going to try for a second today. I'm sure everyone can relate certain parts of it to their life, but I really got nostalgic in certain areas/parts of my cildhood when I'd go exploring with no one around on the prairies or gold courses during winter,it really captured the feeling and sounds really well. Super cool thing, Im hoping someone figures out if there is in fact something more to it, because theres some "clues" to say there is and even if there isn't, totally a pleasurable ride that's worth the price.

Yeah I really enjoy the tone and light narration of Teleglitch, it reminds me a little of a HL meets Doom and the shooting for a top down shooter is super satisfying.

I missed GDC by 2 days last year when I moved down, so I'm especially excited to attend this year. Would totally meet up with the folks here whenever, and will write up some recommendations for food/drinks/stuff this weekend. No expert, just my first year impressions.

I remember when this came out and it just devolved into running around deathmatch. Might be interesting to see what it was like with people who might want to play by the rules.

It is the future but consolidation doesn't support the amount of people working today and neither does 10,000 kickstarters starting up a day. So my bleak outlook is still a bit warranted. At least we're seeing some wonderful games lately, so as a gamer, it's pretty awesome right now.

I can't imagine Nintendo still making hardware in 5 years, saying it's going to happen this year seems a bit pessimistic. And we all see where the "AAA" market is going, though I still that'll take a couple years to get completely shook out, which is still mildly depressing because it's pretty much the only place that'll keep my bills paid.

We cant ever seem to finish the game with more then a few people, but it's been awhile. Anyone up for another round? I'll host. edit: Was sick of making a new thread, so lets just house it all in this. Check last page for updates.

Sweet, can't wait. I love this game, but something about it just lacked a bit for a sustained game, so I'm really looking forward to the the improvements. Totally be up for starting a game when it's out.

Does that happen automatically or through a button press? Because at least from my perception it just happens whenever I go to stab a dude, which is frustrating to me because it seems like a useful skill to have (probably why I clicked on it) but if it happens every time or just some times without my intention, then it's really annoying. Like the instance I described, I intended to do something else, but the game said no. Granted i could never get that skill, but what if I wanted access to do it some times and not others? I'll refer to Dishonored which I thought was incredible in a bunch of different ways, but especially in the way it executed the level of player intention through it's myriad of skills. Im not getting that feeling of polish and control from FC3 at all... which I understand it may not do because its a larger game, but then I argue it shouldn't try to do something it can't do well. *** And Pony you make a good point about the overall game systems of the world, it is far improved, it's just a shame that on a thematic level it's less interesting and absorbing to me.

Yeah it's filtered coffee but manually done. I just noticed that when I moved here that SF (or maybe all of metropolitan America?) makes a bit of a production of it with the filter, stirring, and a thermometer. Anyway, tastes fine, I'm just surprised not many use a french press as an alternative. Sweet town though, lots of cafes and bars, it's great.

Still waiting for that brilliant game under all the shit people keep talking about..... I'm starting to wonder if people who think this shit is good just didn't understand FC2, because so far my enjoyment are the remnants of what was left from FC2. I'm literally yelling at the screen because in its attempts to do more and streamline gameplay it takes away my intention from a situation or moment to moment action. I'm creeping up behind a bunch of guys, they're all moving forward, no one is looking back, so I am just going to take them out one by one and in the event that I'm noticed shoot the shit out of them. I go to stab the first guy.... stab him in the neck, he yells; no problem, gun time.... nope, instead I use him as an ineffective human shield and try to run away... nope, can't do that either because my retard character won't fucking let go of this asshole and I'm dragging him behind.... to hide his body? Really Farcry? You're not that fucking game and you're not doing it well by trying. So I die and pretty much alt/ctrl/deleted my way out. Hate to be so hard on this game, but the presentation is irritating enough, I just can't get into this silly fantasy island because just when I'm almost having fun some bs like that happens. Maybe it's because I'm using a controller instead of my normal mouse and keyboard, but I had a great time with Dishonored that way, so figured it was time I just start going with the rest of the world, maybe not and I'm just making this game suck for myself.

Decided to check this out because it was on sale. Not a fan of the comicbook or tv show and am terrible at traditional adventure games, but so far really enjoying it. It's sort of the best bits out of a bioware game with a little bit of action in between. Though, woof, just finished episode 4 and thought it was really odd because all the characters just put themselves in terrible situations just didn't feel very grounded compared to the other eps. I'm not sure how much control Sean and Jake have over the overall story and characters, but I'm noticing the episodes they were leading are my favorite. I enjoy choices in the game, especially in a conversation system, but I'm not really sure what it's all impacting. There are a few obvious ones, but it seems like there's a lot of choices that aren't really effecting any system or what happens. Does that matter if I'm still enjoying it? I don't know, maybe, or maybe I'm just not seeing how the choices are effecting it? I'd be curious to play again and see how everything pans out, but it really just seems it comes down to who sticks around and who doesn't, which character will come to your aid or not.

39 hours seemed to go by really quick, so it must be doing something right. But on the other hand, I think I really hate this game and I'm yelling at either the gameplay mechanics, glitches, or idiot characters constantly and usually quite in disgust. Then I start it up again an hour later, so I don't know whats going on. I'm probably better off just installing FC2 again to scratch that itch that I think FC3 is substituting.
-
I'd totally disagree with that, but that really depends on what you consider the narrative in FC 3. Yes the story is bad, but its the way it permeates through nearly every facet of the game play that makes it worse to me. I played a character in FC 2, he had a name and a backstory, but for all intents and purposes the character I was playing was me. In FC 3 the narrative seeps even into breaking me out of that idea with having Jason comment on something every 2 seconds. So that's fine, I guess I don't need that and I have fun roleplaying in other games while following a character, but that was a pretty important aspect to FC 2 that sold the world and game to me. *** Anyway, I have been having a tough time getting into the game, so I don't have many concrete thoughts on it just yet. Just wanted to comment on how the narrative isn't just the main storyline in a cut scene, because that's easy to ignore, it's how it creeps into other things that make it impossible to ignore.

That's funny, I'm by no means a SF local yet, but no one has ever mentioned Philz to me until my buddy came down last weekend and read it in Time magazine or something... I dunno. But glad to know someone whos lived here likes it. I like Four Barrel as well, but I don't understand the fascination with drip coffee in this city, it's kind of funny to me.

Check the link sent to you originally and it's up there for download.

Yeah I figured out the room thing and played it for awhile. A great start and really accessible for a 2 week demo. I totally would play the full game of this, just right now, obviously, there isn't enough there to make it a full thing. Sadly, I had a murderer on board that took the life of Bagel Garek, our only scientist. I never discovered how it was, and with the lack of law enforcement and corpse clean up, his death grin carcass served as a cold reminderer that we could all go at any second. The killer took a second life... Chris Garek, which I can assume was a relation to Bagel. Someone on Space Base One did not like the Gareks. I built large corridors into space hoping to find something when all construction out there stopped, morale was so low (I'll assume they were too far from the facilities to know what to do) they froze in a corner and just complained about being hungry. Anyway, the potential is there and I'm sure Jp and Chris know what they want out of it, so here's hoping they get to make it someday. After playing I just left it on and had the music in the background, which says a lot, since I could have just fired up the soundtrack in a music player, hehehe.
-
Watched the live stream and now only have had time to play Space Base.... Does anyone know how to make areas in the game, there's a certain logic I'm not getting and I remember either Chris or JP mentioned it during the stream, but I forgot... theres just something Im not getting in order to successfully make a new room. I also do love the music, not because Chris made it, because it's pretty rad. Black Lake and White Birch both had strong pitches because they seemed to be art driven but the challenge in making them was adding an interesting game to it... Black Lake may have gotten close from the looks of it, but I'll need to try it out; they were pretty disappointing to watch mechanically and even given a 2 week deadline didn't seem to be doing anything interesting from an aesthetic point of view for me; I'm sure others liked it. The two surprises were the concepts I didn't really dig, which was Hack and Slash and Autonomous; I really see how those could be cool games; though in regards to hack and slash, if they were to continue with it , I think they should completely kill the art and presentation of it and come up with something a little more interesting, but mechanically it was a totally different game then I was expecting and when the lead gave the controls over to someone who just wanted to futz with it, I can see the potential.

THose are some purty screenshots. I absolutely love this character design: http://cf.shacknews.com/images/20121112/rsg_gtav_screenshot_061_23993.jpg It's a cross between Tom Noonan and Walton Goggins... looks so interesting.

The Business Side of Video (Space) Games EXCLUSIVELY ON IDLE THUMBS
Murdoc replied to Henroid's topic in Video Gaming
Let's hope not, such an amazing idea for a crappy developer. *** It's a scary precedant that's been established and a really odd ruling to destroy copies and not distribute the games... I guess Epic wasn't interested in the royalties, they wanted to make a point. In SK's defense, Unreal 3 pre-GoW was a god damn mess and I thought they had not a bad point in suing, but the lesson here is don't piss off Epic. -
Orv, you may want to do some trouble shooting because Dungeon Keeper 2 most certainly works in Win 7 in a compatibility mode.
-
Possibly, but not in the way we'd hope for. Disney largely has absolutely no interest in making a video game we'd consider interesting, it's all very much a numbers game and the fact Epic Mickey 2 exists is a little baffling. I worked for Disney during a time they were trying to make an honest push for it under Buena Vista, but it was pretty clear that it wasn't working and they pulled out of the business. Epic Mickey is the last remnants of that time (And as Sean described at one point, existed before that time too) The own some of the best properties now, it's a shame they won't get serious about gaming because I'm sure there is a lot of talent out there that could produce something spectacular.

The informative bits of that was really interesting like a mini documentary, the rest was really weird.... I don't know what they were going for there. It was more like a bet on what ridiculous things they could get the pretty girl to do while she poorly acts her little heart out. If it's one think kickstarters and kickstarter related projects have been teaching me is that old school devleopers and companies really are out of touch with modern marketing and their audiences.
