  1. 2010 BAFTA Games

I don't know, man. I think Uncharted 2 might have just outbudget'd™ Left 4 Dead 2. I do not agree with that. Technology, no matter how good, does not equate to good visual design. Everything you see was crafted by artists, which falls under visual arts. Technology seems much more of a black box to us as players, because we don't know what is under the hood, although it does show in how the game feels, how it runs, physics, etc. I do agree with you on the combat. I'd go as far to say that game mechanically speaking, Uncharted isn't that interesting, even though everything is polished as fuck. Still one of my favourite games of last year though! Kind of ridiculous how they cleaned up most categories and award shows, though. Mike Krahulik as he went on stage to receive the ambassador award together with Jerry Holkins and Robert Khoo: "Uh wow, thanks for not giving it to Uncharted 2". xD Yes, what the fuck. :\

Really? I wasn't. How does L4D2's audio design stand out to you guys? Besides the audio cues it gives.
  3. Horror/Classic Lit Mash-Ups Are Driving Me Insane!

Well, if the defense was good, then that hardly matters, does it? Still nice to see an author going out there and defending his work, even if it's ctrl+c, ctrl+v. I don't really see what the problem is. What is your problem with them?
  4. The perpetual thread of praise!

Prove it and then I will worship you as a God! I really love pizza.
  5. Mass Effect 2

It is not a photoshop. I don't know the story behind it, but this is reeeEeEeeeAaaaAAaAALLL.
  6. New people: Read this, say hi.

No, a veteran is merely someone who has been at it for a long time. I, for example, am a veteran eater of pizza's. Mmmmmm.
  7. Mass Effect 2

Check out what my friend found. A snackbar in Mass Effect 2: A Snackbar chain in the Netherlands:
  8. Wizaaaaaards!!

If you put your hand over the bit where his fist is in the screen, it looks like he is masturbating and everyone is applauding him for it. The old lady is applauding but at the same time she is saying "Not in my eyes". Don't worry old lady, Quinton knows what he's doing.
  9. Street Fighter IV

Goddammit. This thread keeps reminding me that I needed to finish my arcade stick. It's so lame. I have all the parts I need, but I just need to build the case; I just can't find the time to do it.

Yea. Only rarely do I come across an aggravatingly good Recon player and often they're only dominating because you can't tell where that person is because the server has the kill cam disabled. Or something. All the hatred I feel towards snipers in the game is usually somewhat lessened by the lone sniper who doesn't see me coming as I plant a knife in the back of his neck. *SNIKT* Aaaaaah. That knife sound is the sound of rage leaving my body.
  11. Cave Story

Pretty sure that the guy learned himself how to program in those 5 years.
  12. The tag line is what cracked me up big time.
  13. Books, books, books...

Finished 'The Name of the Wind' by Patrick Rothfuss a few moments ago. Overall it was an enjoyable read; fun fantasy stuff. I already pre-ordered 'The Wise Man's Fear', its sequel. No idea when that is supposed to come out, but it'll be a nice surprise when I find a fresh new book in my mailbox. A few months ago I made an attempt to start Jared Diamond's 'Guns, Germs and Steel', but I got sidetracked and kind of forgot about it. Found it and started reading it again. It's very interesting so far, although for now I can tell that it'll be a slow burn for me. The guy repeats a lot, which makes it tiresome to get through, but I guess he wanted to make his points with as little room for interpretation as possible. I also made a start in Joseph Campbell's 'Hero With a Thousand Faces'. Haven't gotten that far in yet, but I like it so far.
  14. Mass Effect 2

The ME1 UI was definitely more functional, with more direct access to actions and hotkeys to other things. I still wonder why they didn't offer any hotkeys to the journal... Unless they did, but completely changed the key to one I never tried. Like Scroll Lock. What Elmuerte said. In terms of resources, there is so much that it's really only worth to go after the huge beeping things. Unless it's that zero stuff, which seems to be a bit rarer.
  15. Left 4 Thumbs 2

I'm there! Haven't played L4D2 for a while now, so I'm ready for some zombie shooting.
  16. The Witness by Jonathan Blow

They do seem very much related to the games mechanics. It's been a while since I last played it, but I remember that most books seemed to relate to the world at hand and its mechanics. I think it's up to you what kind of meaning you want to subscribe to them.
  17. Portal ARG?

So far every follow up has been better than the one before, so it's probably true for this one as well.
  18. Life

I would've totally went and hung out with you if I was actually attending. Alas, GDC is a little over budget for me, for now.
  19. GDC 2010 for thumbs?

You are right. But that doesn't mean that I have to like it.
  20. GDC 2010 for thumbs?

It's supposed to be. It really annoys me to see those corporate shills trying to sell their product. Not to mention the gaming press. Gamasutra seems to be the only news source that actually reports about the talks. All those gaming blogs do is "OH MAN, LOOK AT THIS COOL GAME WE SAW" and "Well, there was a bunch of stuff they talked about, but I didn't really understand.... THEY SHOWED THIS COOL GAME THOUGH, CHECK IT OUT". They as well seem to be completely missing the point what GDC is about. It makes me feel bitter.
  21. Battlethumbs: Idle Company

Oh woe is you. Good games of Battlefield, even though you're one of those disgusting sniper types. P.S. Thanks for ruining my secret online life.
  22. Portal ARG?

Yes, yes and YES. Bought and bought. The lighting in those screens looks gorgeous.
  23. Battlethumbs: Idle Company

Unless Jammy already made a soldier that has Thumb in the name, because he didn't realize that clan tag and nickname are treated as separate things... I'm also for Thumbs by the way. Oh, and last nights matches were awesome. Skratche, you should definitely join us on Skype. The light planning we do really helps stick a squad together with a purpose. I also shouldn't be allowed to fly a helicopter.
  24. The Witness by Jonathan Blow

LightMass?? The Unreal Engine lighting system? What? o_O
  25. Battlethumbs: Idle Company

I got it installed and am ready to rock some things-that-require-rocking tonight! Does anyone know if they solved the connection thing yet? If not, is there an ETA of any kind?
