The Idle Thumbs Podcast Episode 10: Nasty/Good/Badass
Lu replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
Yaay! Sean 'Famous' Vanaman is surely my favourite special guest. I will receive this podcast into my ears to be processed by my brain and maybe, if I hit my head into hard objects often enough, it'll shortcircuit my auditory and visual cortex around allowing me to see sound. I will be able to watch the podcast. It'll be glorious. -
Their saving system is weird, man. It had some of the same weirdness that STALKER had. There was a point in Metro 2033 where the enemy saw me and one of them threw a pipebomb. I quickly reloaded to the last checkpoint where that pipebomb then proceeded to explode 5 seconds later putting everyone on alert yet again. So it might just save very basic information. The AI doesn't seem too smart as they all become aware of your presence at the same time if you mess up. Maybe it's just a "EnemyAwareOfPlayer = true" variable. I dunno, just guessing. I know you are.

I don't mind it IF it is done right, but most games don't do it right. Metro 2033 did not do it right (for me) and it irritated the shit out of me. I definitely would've had more fun with it, if it had let me done quicksaves. The reason for that being that I tried to sneak as much as possible, without killing. It made it next to impossible for me to play that way without laborious pattern memorization. When a checkpoint broke my sneaky playthrough by checkpointing me just as I was caught, I gave up and just started killing everyone from that point on. On the other hand, I think that developers should give you the option of quicksaving. Fuck it if I want to break all tension by quicksaving the game every 5 seconds. I bought their flipping game, at least allow me to play it how I want to. If the game does checkpointing decently, I forget about quicksaving most of the time anyway. You know, I still don't understand why, if they have a checkpointing system, they don't just let the game save the moment you hit quit. A lot of these games have a "continue game" option in the menu, setting you back to the nearest checkpoint, but why can't it just resume me from the point where I last stopped playing?

A Rudimentary Poll: PC or Consoles and your gaming background
Lu replied to Squid Division's topic in Video Gaming
My father got a PC (386) for work one day. During my childhood I generally leaned more towards PC, because where I lived, my friends, it was more of a PC culture. We'd just constantly be exchanging games by floppy and copy these game disks from the local library. I didn't start buying PC games until we got a brandspanking new PC (P166) It had a CD-ROM drive and Windows 95! It came with one of those Windows multimedia introduction CD's, that had the 3D bumpercar/maze game and that Weezer music clip. Anyway, to skip ahead a bit, I got a job and I always bought games that were cheap and on sale. At the time I was 16, I'd sometimes buy 4+ games at a time. I would basically spend every dime I earned on games; I had very little other interests as a kid. Honestly, I think was a little bit spoiled as a younger child; me and my brother got an NES (don't remember why) and I still have like 20 NES games and no idea how I got them. Eventually, that must've stopped. When you're 10 and your allowance is 2 bucks a week, that sort of rules out console games. I did read Club Nintendo and I was completely hyped about the N64 and started saving my money for that thing. I managed, so I got that. The games were so expensive that I only ever got them on Christmas and my birthday. It's why I only have a grand total of 5 N64 games. History goes something like this: - 386 - NES - P166mhz (Half-Life at ~5 fps, mmmm) - N64 - P800mhz (166 one died by lightning strike) I held onto that last one until I moved out of the house. At that point I started building my own custom PC's. -
I often feel that, if you start wearing shit like that on a t-shirt, it kind of loses something.

I wish it would do that in every game. Like in Dawn of War 2, where he would call in airstrikes on my dudes fighting other dudes AFTER which he went "get out of there". YEA. THANKS PATSKI.

That's weird. For some reason this entire bit just appears as a scramble of letters and numbers for me? What does it say?

It's her work outfit! Obviously. So the show has come to robot hands now... I'm not sure how I feel about that.

AaaAaAaaaAUuUuUgh... Do you always want to be right? Just let it go, man.

I bet they have all kinds of freaky fetishes. "You want WHAT up your butt? What? While wearing clown shoes and the scream mask?"

Free video games for free?! Sign me up! I keep confusing this game for Alien Swarm, but this game has nothing to do with that, right? Besides, maybe, influenced by?

I was being a dick and was posting works of famous authors in there to see what happened and apparently Isaac Asimov writes like Edgar Allan Poe who in turn writes like Douglas Adams. Ursula LeGuin and some other Edgar Allan Poe works were named as such though! I wonder what it actually looks for in the texts. It knows me too well.

So is it confirmed that one of these people is the devil... Or is the elevator the devil?! That could be the twist.

I guess out of context was wrong then. Still, something annoyed me about it.

1up.com posted an article titled "Tim Schafer: Activision CEO Bobby Kotick is ´a Total Prick´" Is it just me or is that completely out of context. THE CONTEXT: It annoyed me slightly.

I wanna see gameplay footage before I make up my mind, but I agree that the 2nd screenshot looks kind of ugly.

Was that a "What's that noiseOHJESUSSHIT" moment, where your heart skipped a beat? Also, this thread just. Won't. Die.
