  1. Life

I didn't really want to make a new thread for this, but I would like everyone to know about this delicious kickstarter. Om nom nom!
  2. Tales of Graces f

Which were based of Phantasia, which is well over 15 years ago. My gripes are not with the games' systems, my gripes are with most everything else. The (probably) godawful trope-filled jdrama bullshit story that seems to be the standard in jrpg's since forever, the annoying "cute" characters and just the way the characters look is a huge turn off. It's basically the same reason why I seem to hate all anime nowadays. I feel a little bitter, because I grew up on these games and they didn't grow up with me. It's a shame, because this one and that Xillia one look gorgeous. Except the characters; they look stupid. Especially her. tl;dr: It's not for me anymore.
  3. Tales of Graces f

What's with the F? Sorry to be completely dismissive, but this looks like the same shit they've been making for 15 years now. I did always like their combat systems, but when I look at this game... Sorry to say, but I feel too old for this. Man, I never thought I would ever say that...
  4. "Adults Should Read Adult Books" - Joel Stein

Yes, I hope this too. I don't think I would've ever bought 'the Sense of an Ending' if it wasn't for the book cast. I read about as fast as I would talk, so that makes any book a reasonable time investment. It's kind of sad, but it makes me rather risk-averse when it comes to picking books. I'm not a person that can walk into a book store and go "that looks interesting, I'll give that a go", no, I need to check out what people (who I care about) have said about it. Reading a book and then talking with other people who have read the book seems like an excellent way to stimulate my book reading habits! I forgot the point I was making, there was one, but I've been fever struck and also insomnia so I keep forgetting things at random and then I lack the energy to try and remember what the what?
  5. Drunken Robot Pornography

It very much reminds me of Geometry Wars, but in a 3D space. Gotta love their game titles.
  6. 0x10c -- Next little number from Mojang

I think it could be an excellent way to learn how basic logic works, maybe? I'm really curious how he's going to handle that part.
  7. Luckily it's Cadburry and not Gadburry. Those big cadburry eggs are disgustingly sweet. Emphasis should be on disgusting. I have quite a sweet tooth, but wow, I just cannot eat those and not get sick to my stomach. It's maybe relevant that I did not grow up with those, that I had my first a few years ago. And I think Orvi just made sure I will never ever eat one again.
  8. Mass Effect 3

I didn't play with DLC and I didn't miss it. You'd think the extra character would be a big deal, but like Zaeed, it's superfluous.
  9. Your first gaming device...

Battle Chess is how I learned to play chess. I was primarily motivated by being able to see all the funny animations.
  10. Game of Thrones (TV show)

Maybe it's because she had to speak in more of an English accent as opposed to an American one? I severely noticed it too, but I'm doubtful if anyone who isn't familiar with Dutch would notice that it's a Dutch accent.
  11. Jerks in high places in the game industry

What a classy guy. I thought that OMGPOP was a developer at first, but they're just a publisher of stuff?
  12. Your first gaming device...

All you people are old! My father got a 386 for his work, so that was the first PC and around the same time, my grandma and mum got me and my brother a NES. Those 2 machines got it properly started for me. Though I do remember at an even younger age, playing some Atari games, namely Space Invaders and some other game on an Atari my dad eventually threw out. At the time, I wasn't really aware of who made games and where they came from, but my older brother was, so besides the games we'd scrounge up from the library and random shareware we got from people in class, he'd read about stuff and get (now) classic vidya games. When later getting a PC, a Pentium 166, we could pick a game with it. My brother wanted to get Warcraft, but I wasn't interested; the box art wasn't to my liking... So we went with the 11th Hour instead. Still a choice I retro-actively regret making.
  13. Steam downloads the latest version, which is why you don't need to worry about the patches, dibs.
  14. Assassin's Creed: Mohawk

See, that was my line of thinking too. As women have been historically marginalized, I think it would put them in a unique position. I would like to think that because of that position, they'd make excellent assassin's. But I'm also thinking I lack information on what they're going to do with AC3. Speculating that Connor will probably start as a blue coat fighting in the war, then yea, if they wanted to stick with that it would be a pain.
  15. Assassin's Creed: Mohawk

That's fair enough. It was a hotheaded knee-jerk response on my part. Though I don't think it'd be that implausible in the AC universe. I remember seeing at least one Altair/Ezio type female Assassin in one of the games and when I see something like this: *shrug* Covering up some of the femininity, works for me. I know that's completely besides the point (I know you weren't implying it wouldn't work ever), but it'd be an interesting perspective. And probably a completely different game.
  16. Assassin's Creed: Mohawk

You're absolutely right about the framing in that article. Another annoyance. And I don't have a problem at all that the game has a male protagonist. What ticked me off is that, this is AC we're talking about, a game with aliens, all kinds of mystical shit and scifi crap and a character whose design stands out like a sore thumb. Yes, my suspension of disbelief stops there. Surely they could've done it, they just didn't. I'm fine with that, that is a creative choice they made, but it sounds like disingenuous after-the-fact reasoning. Gave me a tinge of pissy annoyance. Now I've vented this, so I feel all better.
  17. The threat of Big Dog

That is still really awesome. It's also appears so American to me for some reason. If I think Japanese robots, I'd think Asimo, if I think American robots, I think of something like that.
  18. Assassin's Creed: Mohawk

Man, this pissed me off. Though I'm sure he has a point, as her giant tits would probably be in the way.
  19. Mass Effect 3

You know, I think I only just now figured their reasoning behind not having any "sex" scenes. It's probably because this is the first Mass Effect that allows male on male gay romances. /speculation It seemed plausible in my head, at least.
  20. Lone Survivor

I bet you're thinking of this guy, because I was thinking the same thing.
  21. Fht-fht-fht-fht. Naked apron style home cooking. For clarity, they'd wear the apron.
  22. We'll be glad to have you, Skratche! Been a long time since we played video games together. Ah yes, what Toblix said. The free version needs to be patched to version 1.11.86somethingwithmorenumbers. Check for the free version patches, as the not-free-game gets different patches altogether.
  23. The threat of Big Dog

Why would they destroy the unit when they can mount it with smart-grenade shells? You know, the type that knows when it has been fired through a window or door opening and then has a distance trigger. They'll equip it with a rapid launcher , one shell for each floor, it'll clear out entire flats with a single jump!! This'll be vintage robot porn someday!
  24. Mass Effect 3

Note to self: Piss off fans, get free cupcakes. So now a lot of people seem all hung up on the ending and I hear very little about what was actually liked about it. In my experience, most of the game is pretty okay. The more significant things, where you meet characters from the previous games, was generally cool. I think they intended it to be organic, where you'd cross paths with past game characters, and a lot of times it works out okay, but other times it feels too formulaic. It also took way too long before Tali (my favourite) finally showed up!! I'm glad they did away with the awkward sex scenes and instead some cute conversations and sweet displays of affection took their place. Mordin's arc, The little micro-stories they had going on, the conversations you can overhear, I liked a lot. . Sure, the NPC's largely stand in the same spot and do nothing, but every time I'd go by these places and see what the latest developments were. I also like that there are actually NPC's walking around now, in the world and on the Normandy. I know that all they do is walk in circles, but as a backdrop it adds a lot more life to the world. Going back to Mass Effect 1, I suddenly noticed how barren the Presidium was compared to ME3. The thing they do where they you overhear a person who needs something and then you get a little *ding* on your quest log is bullshit though. Unnecessary padding, one of those artificially-lengthening-of-the-game things. I know you don't have to do them, but if you don't play online, I'm reasonably sure you have to do some of them in order to fill your little military meter thing up. In fact, I'd say that most problems I had with this game were the "game-y" things. Flying your little ship around and then, oh no, here come the reapers, better run! It didn't bother me a lot, but it just felt kind of silly. I did it all anyway.
