  1. Left 4 Thumbs

Oh Valve. Valve, Valve, Valve, Valve, Valve. I should've expected no less from them, but I'm guessing they're working as hard as they can. One of the few companies I know that can consistently miss their own set release dates by about a day. I'm not even angry, I'm being so sincere right now. I'm really curious what exactly the hold up is.
  2. Brütal Legend overload...!

I was never very good at strategy games. I figured with Brutal Legend, it'd be strategy-lite™, but it's really kicking my ass. I'm not sure how much I'm enjoying it and I'm also not sure if I'll ever be able to power through and finish it. Not to mention that, in a lot of areas, it feels really rough around the edges.
  3. Left 4 Thumbs

Welp, apparently the deadline for unlock has been pushed ahead. I won't get to play it tonight since the unlock time is now at about 7 AM for me. That'd be 6 AM GMT. *sigh* Valve...
  4. Obligatory comical YouTube thread

I'm so confused right now... Are they even singing English? Do people actually listen to this and consider it enjoyable? Why? Why..?
  5. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves

Well, that's the beauty of streaming technology. You walk into one part of the level, an old bit gets unloaded, a new bit gets loaded. Seamless transitions. Though, I noticed that there are definite cut-off points, where you drop down a ledge making you unable to return to the area you came from. I could imagine them doing that for loading up a big upcoming area... All speculation, of course. Who knows if that would ever be necessary for the technology they built. I wouldn't presume to know.
  6. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves

That could've been a possibility if it didn't allow you to skip the cutscenes, which you can.
  7. Uncharted 2 looks better.
  8. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves

I'm pretty sure that Uncharted 2 does use video cutscenes, but it is all rendered in-engine. It's really hard to notice when they're real-time and when they're videos, but I'm assuming the cutscenes in the extras category are all video.
  9. Left 4 Thumbs

Sign me up to awkwardly say 'hi' to the Idle Thumbs community, while playing Left 4 Dead 2. Totally look me up and add me, if you want to play. I headshot things a lot.
  10. Life

Man, looks like your friend has some 'splainin' to do. He made me feel bad a little, just by reading your story. I hope there is a good explanation for it all, but you're completely in your right to be upset. Hope it turns out okay. As a sidenote, I almost horribly misunderstood your first sentence: For some reason it took me a while to realize that you didn't break up with your fiancée on Thursday, but had your date on Thursday. I was thinking to myself: "Man, that's really soon after.".
  11. Idle Thumbs was something I could really look forward to each week and I will miss it. Since there will be 2 more episodes, I expect an awesome new song in each of them with an awesome ending song for the final episode! Good luck at your new job, Nick!
  12. Left 4 Thumbs

This came out a bit earlier than intended, apparently. u39KZJIJ7VA I am so ready to play this.
  13. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves

If you die a couple of times, the game actually tells you what you have to do. That's how I found out.
  14. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves

The tank killed me quite a few times as well. It's so linear in what it wants you to do, that sometimes it can be frustrating if you don't really know what it wants of you. I don't mind this kind of linearity, I get absorbed into stories quite easily and just go with the flow. This might also be why I had absolutely no trouble whatsoever with Chapter 2; I knew what it wanted of me and I did just that. I was actually kind of surprised when I read about the grief it was causing quite a few people. The moments where you're put into this arena where you can silently take down enemies, one by one, felt very satisfying to me. Those moments are kind of laid out like puzzles where you try to find the right enemy to take down -- at the right time. I noticed that if you take out everyone through stealth, there is no one left to trigger reinforcements. A nice reward. Frustrating to me were the moments where I didn't exactly do the thing it wants me to and I just die over and over. It really pulls you out of the experience. Really pulled me out of it, which was a damn shame, because it killed the momentum the game had going for it. Most memorable moment of the entire game, for me, is the bit where Uncharted 2 would be a game of the year contender for me, followed closely by Batman. I can't think of any other games, that came out this year, that gave me this kind of memorable experience. I love these characters and their adventures; hopefully we'll see many more.
  15. Infinity Ward - MW2 news

Even if no PC user buys this, didn't CoD4 sell like 8-9 million units on Xbox 360 alone?
  16. Obligatory comical YouTube thread

2012 will be a shining beacon of acting quality, no doubt. That video had me in stitches. f8S8tbQMp2k Not funny, but still cool.
  17. Infinity Ward - MW2 news

This. It's a content control/piracy issue, I think. I'm mostly upset because they're trying to conform console standards to the PC. Why can't we just let PC games be PC games? I want server browsers and I want dedicated servers and I want mod tools for the community. Not this closed off bullshit. Dramatic statement! If PC gaming was indeed dead, then its cause of death would be murder through actions like this... (And maybe also piracy )
  18. Starter Shooters

I agree with this. I'd go with Half Life 2, though. It's more refined than the first game. Too bad that so many parts in that game drag on for too long. Portal would be a fun introduction to the first person genre -- even if it's not a shooter. Heck, why not Left 4 Dead? She can play with friends and on easy it isn't that hard. It's a tough question, because what might seem like an entry level shooter for us...

Toblix, call me a bad adventure gamer, but I can't figure out what your googlewave.com adres is...

Woopwoop! I got my invite a moment ago. Trying to figure it all out now. Good stuff.
  22. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

Hahaha, no kidding. It's no stretch to say that the man was quite an eccentric. It's fun to read about such individuals; it fascinates me to no end how these people become who they are.
  23. Movie/TV recommendations

Definitely talking about the new one, because I saw that yesterday and it was indeed a boring, by the numbers kind of thing. Not to mention the direction; it was so tacky. The whole thing was: "Here's some fast motion footage of the city and streets and then occasionally suddenly switch to a shot of John Travolta walking in slow motion, looking all angry while '99 Problems and the bitch ain't one' plays in the background." Obnoxious is the word that comes to mind.
  24. Google Wave

I heard from a friend that it can take days before you actually get your invite though. Not sure why this is. I hope I get it sooooon.
  25. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

I did not know this, nor had I ever heard of this Scruff fellow. Consider myself slightly more educated! Thanks for that.
