  1. What does your view look like?

Having spent a lot of time reading the Something Awful thread about terrible Kickstarters, I thought y'all were talking about LIFX and was astounded someone go ttheir reward already.
  2. New people: Read this, say hi.

    Hi, Gunnerkrigg avatar person!
  3. I tried Sublime last year and hated it, because I am terrible.
  4. Thumbs meetup at the magic show to ESCAPE FROM it, anyone?
  5. Internet Comics

I used to follow Noelle but stopped for some reason. Dito Vera Brosgol; I need to get back into those.
  6. Discworld

I really like the Discworld books. My favourite used to be Interesting Times, and I'm not sure what my current favourite is; possibly Thud or Going Postal. I got Dodger recently but haven't read it yet - it was going to be my inflight reading for my move to SF but I ended up sleeping instead. My party trick used to be the ability to, given any unattributed quote from a Discworld book, provide the book, speaking character, and surrounding context. Then Pterry wrote a bunch more books and I ran out of brain space. ETA: Every time there is a new book I get it as a present, in the UK hardcover edition. Marvellous. If you're in the US, you're missing out on lovely cover art. I'l be sad if/when Terry takes his trip to Dignitas. I have Choosing to Die on my hard drive but haven't watched it because I expect it will make me cry a whole bunch.
  7. Life

    I am in SF! Woo!
  8. Guns and gun control

The thing with gun safety demonstrations is that the only ones people remember are those that end up in the newspaper because a cop accidentally shot himself in the leg while demonstrating trigger discipline.
  9. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

Is the mii thing called mii wara wara yet? Iwata implied that would be the name across all regions but I don't see it on the US promos and quicklooks. p.s. hd wind waker yissss (Maybe they could add back in those dungeons they scrapped during the original dev, so the endgame isn't so sparse? Please?)

RSI: Try WorkRave for Windows. It times your activity and suggests breaks. My RSI (tendinitis in the forearms) was probably precipitated by trying to work 3 jobs at once and taking no breaks. Anecdata: stress definitely made my symptoms worse. I would be a lot tenser and that made things hurt more. I was also less mindful and so I had less sense of when things were getting too much, and would work right through the pain (which is never a good idea with RSI or other issues). I now have chronic pain in both my arms and cannot really play video games any more because I tend to get too engrossed and keep pushing buttons until I'm crippled. Please take me as a warning and do not ignore what could be RSI. Take good care of yourselves. Rodi's new job: Congratufuckyou! Me: The movers are here to pack everything up. I have constructed a fort in the bedroom full of things that won't be packed, and have hooked up the cable modem inside my fort. I am quite stressed and anxious. Well, I was - but I took an Ativan so soon I will be loopy and sleepy and stressed and anxious. An interesting combination.

  16. "This is the last dateline"? Say it ain't so. I like the datelines.
  17. Life

Moving house is sad and stressful and scary. I'm freaking out a little bit at having to leave Tallahassee. On the plus side I won an award at work. Leave on a high note and all that.
  18. Things That Improve Your Life

Quality paper: Rhodia or Clairefontaine are all I use. I use a Rhodia top wire-bound notebook for my day-to-day to-do lists and notes, and Clairefontaine Triomphe paper for letters. They're glassy-smooth, which means that it's like writing with a hot knife on butter. Ink takes longer to dry (so be careful not to smudge if you're a left-hander), but there's zero bleeding, feathering, or show-through. Would the Arc Touch mouse work with a Mac? I notice the Amazon description does nto say so, but I suppose it would be silly of MS to advertise it.
  19. A look back on the Wii

I'm trying to work out how many games used the balance board. Two, was it (Wii Fit and Wii Ski)?
  20. Life

Was Doug's grammar getting on your nerves? Mr. Funnie isn't good with words.
